Paul investigating? Or just wondering what it’s all about, what it’s like?
Code for the brain that changed the body? What the hell did he do?
I like how they show that Topher is always about the “what’s possible/what can I do with this”, not caring (or not outwardly caring) about the maybe not so good uses his work might be put to. It shows us how he can be working where he is.
“I don’t wanna use the word genius, but I’d be OK if you want to.”
Like Van Halen. Heee!
Oh! He made her lactate. Well, that’s actually kind of understandable. Although it makes me wonder what the story with the client is.
Is it not really his kid? Did the real mom die and now he can’t handle the baby so that’s why he needs her? Is this a fake family set-up, for a con or an undercover investigation or something?
Huh. Well, whatever it is, Sierra is playing a part in it too.
Just gonna give him his space . . . .aaaaand then she’s jimmying the lock on the office door.
This is making me think of Betty on Mad Men.
Oh, she found the pictures of his wife, his dead/gone wife and thinks he’s having an affair, right?
He’ll get rid of the baby . . . OK, so it’s not his kid, then? I’m totally wrong about the scenario . . . maybe he wanted to pretend he got the happy family life he wanted with the blond from the photos?
Yay! It’s
Wesley Senator Perrin again! **is happy** Hunting the evil Rossum.
Mellie!! Or should I say, Madeline. (Man, she’s so gorgeous . . .) “Adele. Don’t misunderstand, it’s . . . nice to see you. But I have this irrational fear that if I say one wrong thing men in suits are going to throw me in a black van and take me away.”
and
and
. It’s funny because it could be true!
Oh, man, I soooo don’t think she should go. I mean, we
know they can wipe your mind, that’s their business. How would you ever know if what you were thinking and feeling and doing was what you really wanted or not? Won’t take no for an answer to coming in for a “diagnostic”. I don’t imagine you will.
Oh, man, is she gonna take the baby and run? And of course she’s going to see Sierra being picked up by her handler as part of the conspiracy.
It’s an interesting play on the standard TV trope of the person who misunderstands a situation and conversations, etc. Because her reality
isn’t really real, but not in the way she now thinks. And she could only have had this misunderstanding because they did such a nice job of making her believe the false reality to begin with.
OK, so it is his baby? He wanted a mom, not just a babysitter or nanny . . . Oh! He was going to have the baby adopted, because he couldn’t handle things without the real mom, yes?
Oh, man. And of course, they’ll be able to prove that she
isn’t his wife, not the mom, because, well, she isn’t. Even if she is, inside.
Damn!
Are they really gonna let
Mellie Madeline just leave? (After offering her some excellent sick apps for her brain, of course **snicker-snort**.)
Things aren’t working well for Echo and damn, she smacked into Madeline. That’s not gonna be good, is it? She hit her head . . . bleeding . . .
“I remember you”, but not the way he’s thinking. And she has no idea she slept with him, no idea she loved him, or pretended to, no idea she spied on him and killed someone in his apartment . . .
“It wasn’t real.” “But it was for her, all that emotion, all that pain. Was I ever like that?” It was, in those assignments you don’t remember, Madeline.
Madeline’s story. I go asleep for 5 years, I wake up without pain. But what did they do to remove the pain? How did they tweak her to leave the memory but remove the pain?
Oh, Topher. “I am a nice man. I’m going to make all this go away.”
Whoa. Whoa!! Whoa!!!!! That. Was not a normal “did I fall asleep/shall I go now?” Damn!
Who’s feeding files to the Senator? And why am I suspicious of his wife? Man, we can’t trust anyone, anyone can be imprinted.
What. The hell. Is going on with Echo? She’s wiped, sort of. I mean, she’s childlike-not-understanding Echo. But . . .but . . . . Ah! Paul’s got it. Topher programmed too much, too deep, going into the body like that. “A bridge too far.”
This dude is gonna have one hell of a shock. And one hell of a complaint against the company, I’m thinking.
Mommy’s home. And fucking scary.
“I am afraid you are going to hurt him.”
“That’s not me, that’s not right.”
“You’re not real.”
“Do you know what’s real?”
“No, I don’t.”
Wow, this is a more existential ep than I was thinking it was going to be!
And then, he just tells her. Tells her the whole story. And tells her she can’t have him, can’t be his mom.
This is more than just Topher programming too much, though, yes? This is also the same thing we’ve seen with Echo before, her holding on to the past memories and assignments. What I can’t decide is, if this is just happenstance, or if her ability to remember is part of the plan, part of whoever put her in the Dollhouse to figure out what’s going on, part of her volunteering even before this investigation-bring-down-the-dollhouse thing she’s got going with Ballard now or . . .? “Not remember, feel.”
Topher could wipe it more, but feeling nothing would be worse. She doesn’t agree with Madeline then, or at least what Madeline says now. Because how would Madeline know if they’d tweaked her to be fine with having her pain removed?
Also? I found the line about “I’m awake now, I don’t want to go back to sleep” really interesting. Made me think of that saying/quote of the Buddha’s – when asked if he was a God or a higher power or what, and he replies simply that “I am awake”.
