Picture of Rich modeling Jan's new shawl in the scrap book. Yes, that's adorable. The shawl is lovely, Angelique.

Jan hasn't been able to use a computer for a while now. She is on some pretty powerful drugs and drifts in and out of present time. She made it through the surgery Saturday, though the first hours after surgery were pretty rough. Today, though, she was in much less pain and her appetite seems to be coming back. It was really great seeing Sara yesterday and I know from her smile that Jan felt touched as well. Sara's post was, as always, fair and accurate. Expect to see a humiliating photo of me a beautiful shawl posted by Angelique in the next 24 hours. Jan's friends were in and out of her room all day yesterday, bringing positive energy and good cheer. Sunday night was like a party. Our friends and loved ones surrounding her bed, offering prayers, love and encouragement. Our friend Adelit brought his two a half year old son Joseph. Jan smiled to see him. There were jokes and swapping of stories. Jan drank it all in. She is aware and can hear people, but it is hard for her to talk. Nevertheless, she would speak occasionally, snarking and joking with people whenever she could. Today we continue to work on finding ways to reduce Jan's pain, though our options are getting more limited. Tomorrow they will be moving her to an extended care facility near the hospital and begin administering hospice care. Know that we feel your love and support. Thanks so much for letting us be there vicariously, Rich and Sara. I look forward to the lovely photo.

No thanksgiving dinner this year. Jas is working so that we can head back to VT on Friday, and our traditional Saturday Thanksgiving is of course canceled, with everything that's been going on. But there is always thanksgiving. I am thankful for all our wonderful friends, both those around us and those in cyberspace. I am thankful for having a family, including Rich, that is warm loving and caring. I am thankful and grateful to know and to have known some amazingly strong women in my life, my mother and Jan. I am thankful that Jason and I now have the space and ability to do what we are doing right now. I am thankful for my health. I am thankful that I have a roof, heat and food to put on our table. I am thankful to Jason for too many things to list here. I am thankful for all the pain that I have suffered, because it means that I am alive. I am thankful for the life I have lived and have yet to live. I am grateful for so many things that I can't list them all. Angelique! Thanks for posting this and reminding us of the Good! You have been in my thoughts often. Please give my best to Jason as well.

Dear S'cubies, Rich asked me to post and give you all an update on Jan's condition. At this point, we still don't know what type of cancer she has, but we do know it's cancer and it's very aggressive. She has been moved from the hospital and into a nursing home and is under hospice care right now. Jan is dying, and we don't know how much longer she will be with us. She has slept since she was moved to the home, and the expectation is that she probably will not come back up to the surface again. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes. It means the world to all of us here. If you have any questions send me an IM and I'll try to answer best as I can.
