What an amazing story, Rich! On so many levels. It's like you two were meant to be. I can't wait to hear more. You and she were truly blessed to have found each other.

Rich, I can not begin to tell you all the times Jan had a word or a comment or an insight that helped me--even when she was actually trying to help someone else. But it will be her sense of humor that I will miss most of all. One of my most treasured memories was getting to know the two of you at S'cubiefest. She will be missed.

Jan touched me in many ways. More than once, her words of advice to people on this board brought tears to my eyes. She had a gift with words, able to help without sounding preachy or pitying. She was also able to make me laugh so hard I shed another kind of tears – those of joy. She was a funny, saucy dame. I miss you Jan. I love you. A song that makes me think of the time I spent with her:

So ten years later, I’m running a small non-profit theater called “The Actor’s Attic” with my friends from college. I was directing a play called “Life Under Water.” Jan came in to audition and I cast her in the female lead.
There are a couple of plays I am especially proud of doing at Actor’s Attic and “Life Under Water” is one of them. Jan did a fantastic job. Not only that, she really enjoyed working with me as a director; so much so that she asked if I would teach an acting class so she could attend. This from a woman who studied with Bill Hickey and Elaine May.
Jan and I were a bit clueless. We thought our mutual admiration was strictly professional. But Jan’s friend Kathy, who I met for the first time at the “Life Under Water” cast party (she came down from Vermont to see Jan perform), took Jan aside and asked “What’s going on between you two?” It was obvious to her that Jan and I connected in some deep way even though we ourselves had not yet acknowledged it.
To be continued…

I was so saddened to return to the board and find that we had lost our Jan. I never had the pleasure of meeting her but, as reflected on the board and in all S'cubies who had known her, she was certainly a very extraordinary and talented woman. She will be missed. My deepest condolanances to Rich, Angelique and family. leftylady ps Rich, please do continue the Rich-and-Jan saga.

Oh! Something that just popped into my head was the Smile Time skit that Jan and Rich did during the last S'cubiefest. That was awesome. I think there are pictures in the photo album.

Rich:
I love this story you're telling. Jan was an extraordinary woman, and I feel very lucky that I had a chance to meet her. And you're an extraordinary man...I can't think of two people who made better partners. It struck me so much when I met you both how much joy you both took in life and in one another.
Please know I'm sending you and everyone who loved Jan my best.

Rich, I was so sorry to learn of your loss. Please know you have my sincere condolences.
It can’t be said often enough that the Scubie folks are special people and so I’d like to say it again. Rich, the stories of your lives together are wonderful. Please continue to share if you can. The tributes and memories shared here in Jan’s honor make me wish I’d known her better.

I can totally see why this feels like Jan to you. Thanks for posting it!

This is a beautiful story. Please keep going. I want to hear more. **nods happily in agreement** I've heard the short version before, but not the full one. And it's a beautiful story.
