Yeah, those hyper-intense Sheppards. It's just the way they are, David. You'll do the same thing to your kid.
David gets what he never knew he needed from Jack.
<==========Whoosh!
Hugo, this IS what he wanted to get done.
"Only way for him to understand how important he is"
"can't be told what it is, gotta find it himself"
"Had to get you and Jack as far away from that temple as I possibly could"
"too late"
Crazy Claire Camp.
"I was lying" and now you are trying to save Claire's life.
"Aaron is at the temple" What the HELL are you playing at, Jin?
Secret way in to the temple, gonna lead her right to it.
"Kate was raising Aaron, I'd kill her" That's just great.
"That's not John: this is my friend" so she's been friends with a protean smoke monster all this time, AWESOME.

So, Jack was too intense for the kid. He didn't want him to see him "fail". Ah, yes, that's right. It was daddy that said he "didn't have it". Bravo for saying all the right things to your kid, Jack! **pets the nice AU timeline daddy** I will always love you. Mission unaccomplished! Jacob is awfully unconcerned. Figure it out, Hurley. He wanted Jack to play his game. "Next time, how 'bout you tell me everything up front." Ah, he was getting them away from the Temple. Smokey, I'm thinking? Oh, Jin. You are a bad liar, but Cave Claire falls for it anyway. "If Kate was raising Aaron, I'd have to kill her." Eeek! And Smoke Monster is her friend. Yep. Smokey and crew are heading to the Temple and that is Not. Good.

And Jacob isn't even trying to save his followers from the attack of Smokey & Claire; just keeping Jack away? Seems awfully cold-blooded, even for a ghost.
Great AU-Jack scenes with his mother ("Joyce" from Hill Street Blues, for those who remember the show) and son. I'm not sure how the bomb going off on the island in 1977 would have resulted in Jack's having a child, though...

I only saw the first few minutes. I agree that Jack is looking younger and slimmer. And the kid playing his son looks like he could actually be his son in rl.
So, he doesn't remember getting his appendix out, but his mother does. Looks like he had a pretty good relationship with his dad from the photographs on the table.

Gail I'm wondering (and late to the party because now I'm reading all sorts of online speculation about this) if the AU timeline is "what if Jacob hadn't been involved in their lives" or if the bomb created a "what if you had a chance to resolve your life issues, but not on a hostile island" alternate path. In other words, what if it's not just a straightforward "at this point in time an event was changed and now we see how things are different from then on" kind of thing?

I've been really enjoying the analysis that the Rungay guys (Tom and Lorenzo) are doing for Lost this season. Firstly, because they're really analysing, not just doing recaps or "what I liked and didn't like" comments (not that each of those aren't useful or intersting reading). But also, they have some really interesting ideas about the big arc of the season and the show. Link to their write up about this ep because they did a neat comparison of this episode to its companion ep in season one. And they have some neat things to say about what Jack remembers and speculating if the AU timeline is what happens when Jacob doesn't interfere and so on.

I'll have to check their analysis out. he time thing and the fact that some people can see dead people, like Jacob, and some can't, and then Shannon's inhaler showing up out of the blue and the whole alternate or concurrent reality has my head spinning. In a good head-spinning way. But what happened to Sawyer and why isn't Locke still with him? Also - what was with the guy from the temple showing up at Jack's kid's audition? What does it all mean? hehe

Yay, dynamite! crazy doll-effigy! And she doesn't know Aaron has been taken off the island.. "If there's one thing that'll kill you it's infection." So it seems. "Not alone" and who other than Jacob and Christian are with her? "she's kinda... not invited" ===========>Whoosh! Have we met Mama Sheppard before? "How do you know David isn't terrified of you?" Yay! Papers! and she just had him over to be with her for finding it, for that is not extraordinarily well-hidden. <==========Whoosh! Back to the aforementioned Claire Littleton. Man, that camp just SCREAMS "batshit" don't it? OW OW OW on the stitching. And Jin may have to tell Claire the bad news, if he's learned it from the castabacks who came lately. Swear by everything that you are her friend, Jin! Claire, with the ax, and the dead eyes, looks freaking SCARY.Emilie did a great job with the crazy-Claire character. Considering how fresh and young she looked in the After the Bomb went off reality. She acted very Rousseau-like. Are the same parts being played over and over again on the island? *Still puzzling over the Blonde Kid in the Jungle's role in all this.*

Ooh, this title makes it seem like it's going to be an interesting episode.
Teaser
Jack's happy family photos.
Appendix scar. Which he got before the plane flight. 7-8 yrs old. But Jack's not so sure, so he's sensing
Jack's got the jeep that he had in the flashforwards last season.
Jack's got a son. With whatshername?
Back in the Temple.
I was afraid you left. Is leaving an option? There's always an option. I just didn't know how to stop you.
Wow, The Others really have no idea how they come across to the Losties or anyone else, do they?
Hey, while we're on the honesty tract, how about answering some of my questions?
Hurley and Miles playing makeshift tic-tac-toe. I love it.
Off in search of food.
Jacob again!
You should probably get a pen, you need to write this down. Someone's coming to the island. I need you to help them find it. More people? Please tell it's like Desmond and Penny and not entirely new characters.

Part I
back in LA.
Ah, Jack just took over custody of David, in a marry-kids-divorce kind of way.
The Annotated Alice. Read it to David, like he read it to Aaron?
Oh, so a visitation rights kind of thing. David lives with mom primarily.
Back on the island.
Jack and Sayid.
Oh, I guess the rest of The Losties don't know that Jack and Claire are half siblings.
Jin and Claire.
Hurley. who wrote everything on his arm. That'll end well.
Ah, trying to read the hieroglyphics.
Wait, I want to know what Drogen said! No fair!
Love Hurley trying to be all covert ops.
"You have what it takes." That's not a code phrase, that's a commercial.
Like Obi Wan Kenobi.
And they're off to see The Wizard Jacob!

Part II
Claire's Lair. Which was Rousseau's old lair.
Love Jin's boxers. Hee.
What was that in the basinet.
I'm having a hard time figuring out whether Claire's crazy due to having to survive by herself or due to this dark mojo infection thing.
Jack and Hurley.
And they find Kate.
Back in LA.
Jack's parents' house.
So I guess they went ahead and had the funeral even without the body. Or did Christian's body show up eventually.
The mysterious will. And it mentions Claire. This is going to be fun.
Back in Claire's Lair.
At least she's practicing sterile technique.
Christian and "her friend" told Claire that The Others had Aaron? Just to turn them against each other?
Now it's your turn. Yikes.

Part III
Jack and Hurley.
About Kate. About Jack's parenting skills.
Shannon's asthma inhaler. And they're at the caves. I hope we're about to find out Something Very Important.
What if these skeletons are us? Yay for Hurley thinking what we've all been thinking.
Jack relates Christian Saga: the Early Years to Hurley.
Back in LA.
Key under the rabbit.
Is this the house that Kate and Jack owned together?
So David's not much with checking his messages. And does that mean that he missed his audition at the Conservatory?
Back on the island.
Jack and Hurley.
About why they came back to the island. Hurley: Jacob told me and so I did it. Jack: I came back because I was broken and I was stupid enough to think that this place could fix me.
Ah, the Lighthouse. Like a real Alexandria type lighthouse.
How is it that we've never seen it before. I guess we weren't looking for it. Again, I say: a systematic exploration of the island after you first crashed would have prevented a lot of grief.
Claire's Lair.
So The Others did the whole torture as diagnosis on Claire.
Jin finally, finally tells Claire where Aaron is.
WHOA. I guess the quality of mercy is strained after all.

Part IV
Jack and Hurley and the Lighthouse.
Back in LA
Ohhh, I guess David's audition is tonight. And Jack had just completely forgotten about it.
PianoCam and dramatic music. Am I missing something? Why are they making this scene seem a lot more important than it is?
Drogen!!!!! does he know this is an alternate verse?
The past is kind fuzzy for Jack.
Back in the Lighthouse.
WHOA. That is one freaky cool mirror.
The roulette table has all the names and the numbers on it. And can be used to watch distant lands Yeah, it's like something out of Harry Potter.
Dude, Jack flipped out there something fierce. Good bye freaky cool mirror.
I wonder if that's what Jacob wanted to have happen.

Coda
Jack and David have a heart to heart.
Yeah, I can relate to David here. It always freaked me out a little how much my parents got into listening to me practice the flute.
I didn't want you to see me fail. So he's a perfectionist, just like Jack.
Back on the island.
Jack and Hurley.
Jacob reappears. Ha! I was right.
Jack has to do something, but can't be told what it is. Thanks a lot, Jacob.
Some one bad is coming to the Temple.
Claire's Lair.
No, Jin! Don't drink the water! Ah, Jin has a plan.
OK, Claire is beyond grief stricken left to fend for herself crazy.
Holy Fuck, her "friend" is NotLocke!
