I caught the last 20 minutes or so of Spartacus last night. Was I seeing things or did they amputate that recruit's penis? I think that might take the cake for the gross-out award this week. They did and it was. As a mom to two boys that was hard to watch. Not that the character survived the experience.

For anyone that's interested, Starz is gearing up for a Spartacus prequel called Gods of the Arena and tells of how Batiatus inherited the Ludus from his father. Which, if anyone's interested, probably involves patricide (IMHO, obviously), lots of sex, gratuitous violence, and enough blood, guts and gore to make an army of vampires very, very happy.

Watching Gods of the Arena and if I do say so myself, I was right, right, right about it all!
Machiavelli could a have learned a lot from these people.

The upside to Gods of the Arena (other than allowing the lead actor playing Spartacus time to recover from cancer) was that it gave interesting insight into some of the characters. Interesting how Lucretia, and even Batiatus, started out a lot more sympathetic... and honorable.
