I intend to write and post the final analysis of LOST this weekend. Unfortunately I have had to do extra work these week, doing both closings, overnights and openings so I really haven]t had the time since the show aired. I know everyone is on the edge of their seats awaiting this and just wanted to keep you all informed. Vlad

Now that I have finally seen the uninterrupted broadcast and mulled over my reaction, I can say that we did or at least I did get resolution – resolution that Spike’s William would appreciate. Just like Spike intuited the solution to Fred’s science dilemma – because the answer was fittingly poetic, what we got was completion for our Man of Science become a new Man of Faith. Coincidentally, there was an inspirational essay in my Saturday paper that touched upon the same themes of community and faith and the way I experienced “The End”. www.cleveland.com/religion/index.ssf/2010/05/like_poetry_religion_adds_dept.htmlleftylady

Don't know what others will think but I liked it. I love a happy ending. It's like re-writing Romeo and Juliet to see them in heaven together. It's like the end of the Tolkien trilogy -- Aragorn gets elf-lady; Faramir gets horse-lady; Sam gets Rosie; bittersweet for Frodo, but he gets to go "over the sea." It's like the end of the Narnia books -- The Last Battle -- where they are all in the train accident but then they are in Narnia and going "further up and further in" and they find all their loved ones. I LOVE a happy, sappy ending. It wasn't exactly Christian imagery because, duh, no Jesus figure. I don't think everything about the island was ever explained (take out the plug, oh bad idea, put the plug back in) -- who knows how long Hurley actually lived on the island with only Benry for company. But nice imagery at the end. And Happy HAPPY HAPPY! endings all around for everybody. I was a mess every 15 minutes as people got their memories back. So maybe the island was just a metaphor for life: there is good; there is evil; there is the unknown and the unexplained and the good decisions and the bad decisions but through it all are the relationships, both friendships and love-ships, that carry us through and survive and sustain us. Not a bad message. Given what they had to live up to, my personal opinion is that it was great! I may never rewatch the ep, but if it were a book I'd definitely re-read it. I saw a bit of Jesus imagery in the wound in Jack's side and his head, and his sacrifice to save the island (the source of the light). Ok, I can come up with some Christian imagery: ;D Season 6 started out with a preseason posed Last Supper and ended on Pentacost Sunday. Before the end we had the empty coffin/empty tomb, the resurrected Christ(ian) meeting his Doubting Thomas and ascending/moving onward, and then our band of lost disciples, assembled in an upstairs room, receiving awaiting the light. leftylady- who loved the happy endings, even the ever faithful Vincent keeping Jack company in his last moments. ps Yeah to Hurley who truly was the Heart of the show.

I'm not going to go into details about the inconsistencies I have spotted in "LOST". But I will say this . . . I can never regard this series as one of the best in television history, or even during the past decade. I just can't. It was an entertaining show that featured interesting storylines, interesting characters, excellent acting and top-notch production values. But if there was one thing that undermined "LOST" and prevented it from becoming as good as it could have been, it was its writing. And from my point of view, the quality of the writing is the backbone of any good movie or television series. "LOST" had some pretty good writing. But it was never consistently good and it was plagued by too many plot holes and inconsistent characterizations that prevented me from considering it great.

A three hour tour, a three hour tour....
2 thoughts when watching the previouslies. -The Smoke Monster is trying to get back to the Golden Cave, but isn't that where he originally came from? Wouldn't that be "home" to him? And wouldn't returning kind of undo the damage so to speak? -Desmond gives Kate a dress to wear, just like Ben did during the captivity on Hydra island.
Teaser
Oceanic, oceanic, oceanic. Is this a commercial?
Back in LA. Jack prepares for surgery.
Back on the island. Jack is reborn.
Back in LA. Ben prepares coffee. Or tea.
Back on the island. Ben ponders whether to betray again or redeem himself.
Back in LA. Locke goes into surgery.
Sawyer starts another day on the job. The fractured mirror.
Back on the island. Kate and Sawyer. Ah, changing her wound.
Back in LA. Kate ponders whether to run.
The Package arrives.
Hey, that's a really cool dollie.
Desmond. A priest or something.
Ah, it is the coffin. So how did Desmond intercept that message?
I have to say that was a brilliantly done sequence. Bravo.
Who died? A man named Christian Shepherd.
Kate scoffs at the name. Hee!
Kate asks Very Important Questions.
No one can tell you why you're here, Kate.
Who are you? What do you want? (Why are you here? Where are you going?)
Desmond's a friend and he wants to leave.
Leave and go. Where?
Back on the island.
Kate watches Jack.
Kate ponders the gulf between them now. (I don't know how to love him...)
Gah! How'd Kate morph into Sawyer like that?!! My eyes, my eyes!!!
Jack doesn't feel any different.
Group powwow. Jack fills the rest of the Losties in on what Jacob told him. Yay!!! They're talking to each other and sharing information!!! Albeit, they waited until the pilot, but better late then never, right?
Doesn't sound like [Jacob] says anything about anything. That's true dude, he's worse than Yoda. (BWAHAHAH!!!!!!! #rofl1# #rofl1# #rofl1#)
Jack, Hurley, and Kate off to find the golden cave. Sawyer's off to find Desmond.
Desmond the magic leprechaun. Hee.
I'd ask you along, but that take all the fun out of telling you you can't come. Guess I'll have to resist the urge to follow you anyway. (Wow, is that like a microcosm of their whole relationship or what?)
(And of course, the requisite) I got a bad feeling about this.

Part I
Flightline hotel.
Hurleymobile arrives.
Ah. Is this the hotel where Sayid killed all those guys? Right, yeah.
Charlie!! In his rock star glory.
Aww...Hurley's so happy to see Charlie
Playing this show is the most important thing he'll ever do.
Hurley tranqs him. HEE!!!! That whole scene was hilarious.
And what is the text on Charlies's shoulder?
Sayid is now thinking that the whole world is nuts. Hee.
Back on the island.
Walking, walking, walking. Always walking.
Kate is asking more Very Important Questions.
Jack took the job because the island is all he's got left. The only thing in his life he hasn't managed to ruin. Wow, that's not a very good reason, is it? Especially since all this "ruining" is really in the eye of the beholder.
And Kate tells him exactly that.
This would be so sweet if we weren't about to die. (hee)
Locke and Ben. And Sawyer.
I totally expected a "son of a bitch" there. Maybe Sawyer has a quota.
Heard Desmond fell in a well, so I came to help him get out. Is Sawyer Lassie?
Does the depth of that well change every single episode?
We're not Candidates anymore. (Wow, did something happen on the island that NotLocke doesn't know about?)
I'll be seeing you.
Psst, Ben. When NotLocke keeps changing his story, it's a sign not to believe a word he tells you.
NotLocke has a boat? The sail boat? I'm so confused about what methods of transportation are viable and which ones aren't
VINCENT!!!!!
ROSE!!! Bernard!!!!!
Now, wait. Did they get transported to the future too or... OK, they did get transported into the future with everyone else.
We broke out rule with you. We don't get involved.
So how did Desmond get out of The Well?
Oops, NotLocke found them. Sorry about the whole not getting involved thing, Rose!!!
I want your word that you won't touch them, ever. (And why are we *still* trusting NotLocke's word? #duh# ) Done. Then I'll do what you want. Yes, Desmond, you will. (dun Dun DUN!!!!)

Part II
Desmond, NotLocke, and Ben.
Desmond knows about the Golden Cave. How?
Ah, Ben is still on the up and up. Hurray!!!! He's working with Miles. Yay!!!
YAY!!!! RICHARD'S NOT DEAD!!!!!
Richard's still in favor of Operation Blow Up The Plane.
Back in LA.
Preparations for the concert are still underway.
Miles sees Sayid in the Hurley mobile. Oops. Oh, Desmond and Hurley wanted Miles to see that.
Snerk, Sawyers got those hideous glasses.
Jin and Sun at the hospital.
A doctor going to see the baby. Ooh, ooh, is it Juliet!?
Yay, it is Juliet!!!
Juliet Carlson. Hmm.
Flashing, flashing, flashing.
Sun remembers everything. Awww.... Double aww... Triple awww....
Now Jin remembers too?
Perfectly perfect in every way. Are they going to name her Mary Poppins?
Sun can speak English now. And so can Jin!
And for the record, you 2 speak English just fine. (Snerk)

Part III
Sawyer. running, running, running.
Sawyer updates them.
Off to the Golden Cave. I hope they have their Golden Tickets.
Nice Helicopter shot.
Back in LA.
Locke ready for surgery. Why on earth does Locke have one of those shower caps on? He doesn't have any hair!!!
Jack's very confident that the surgery will work, but there's always a chance that the Jack could kill him.
See you on the other side.
If I can fix you, Mr. Locke, then that's all the peace I need. Hmm.
Back on the island.
Richard's getting his first gray hair. Is that like getting your first period?
I think I just realized that I want to live.
Richard and Miles on the kayak. Are we ever going to figure out who was firing at the Losties? The show is just torturing us with this one.
OMG! Oh, the skipper guy from the sub. More sub wreckage. Frank!!!!!!
Now the only one we haven't touched base with is Claire.
If we leave that thing won't have a plane anymore. Aha!! Except that NotLocke could care less about the plane and is now more concerned about the Golden Cave. But anyway, it will give you bit players something to do, so have at is.
NotLocke, Ben, Desmond vs Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley.
Kate goes for blind vengeance.
Jack vs. NotLocke.
Jack's sort of the obvious choice. Heh. Hmm...
I love the tension in this scene.
Does Jack know how to kill NotLocke? Oh, that's a surprise. OK, then! I'll bet he's bluffing.

Part IV
Back in LA.
Jack and Juliet.
Aha! Juliet is David's mother.
Sawyer arrives. To see Sun.
Back on the island.
walking, hiking, walking, hiking. It's what they do.
Jack's plan. He doesn't have one. Yet.
Desmond is a weapon.
Hell of a long con.
You should talk, Mr. Con Man.
Bamboo groove. Dancing light.
Desmond, Jack, and NotLocke go on ahead.
Hurley believes in Jack. Aww...
Another reference to a storm.
There it is. The Golden Cave.
prepping Desmond to go in.
Desmond knows none of it matters. Wait, I thought nothing mattered in the alternate reality.
You lower me in, I'm just going to go somewhere else. A place where we can be with the ones with love and we don't have to think about this island ever again. (To the alternate reality? Yep, to the alternate reality.)
Desmond wants to bring Jack there too.
There are no short cuts; there are no do overs. Whatever happened, happened. All of this matters.
So they're all going in then?

Part V
Back in LA.
Hurley and Sayid. waiting, waiting, waiting.
There are rules. Whose rules? Don't worry about it, just trust me. I trust you. (Ha! I love how meta the show is getting)
Hurley believes in Sayid. Aww...
You can't let other people tell you what you are, you have to find that out for yourself.
fight, fight, fight.
Is that Richard?
Or Shannon?
Shannon makes Sayid flash? Really? I'm so confused. Shannon?? Nadia??
Takes as long as it takes.
Boone. Hee! And he went all the way back to Australia to retrieve Shannon.
Back on the island.
waiting, waiting, waiting.
Miles walkie talkies.
Claire walks out of the jungle. Because she heard her cue.
Free of everything he ever did to us and never look back. We can go home.
Richard actually reaches Claire. Or not. I actually thought he could do it.
Golden Cave.
Operation Lower Down Desmond.
This remind you of anything? Desmond going into a hole in the ground. If there was a button we could argue about whether or not to push it. Just like old times. (that sounds like the old Locke, actually, despite what Jack says)

Part VI
back in LA.
Concert.
Wowsers. That's quite a dress Juliet's wearing.
Charlie and Charlotte.
Charlotte and Daniel.
Table 29. David and Claire. And Desmond and Kate.
Dr. Chang introduces the band.
Charlie sees Claire. Claire sees Charlie.
And Claire goes into labor. She's going to flash then, right?
Desmond traded one hole in the ground for another. and another.
Skeletons and stalagmites. And EM radiation.
Moving the rosetta stone in the middle makes wonky things happen. And the light goes out. And then it starts back up again. All the water disappeared.
It looks like you were wrong. Goodbye Jack.
So Jack tries the old fashioned way. And it works. Turning out the light made NotLocke mortal. I think?

Part VII
Claire. In Labor.
Is that Sawyer? No, it's just a stage hand that looks an awful lot like Sawyer.
Kate catches up with Claire.
Back at the concert.
Now Desmond's at table 23.
Eloise shows up.
Desmond chose to ignore her instructions.
Ah, Eloise doesn't want to lose Daniel. That makes sense.
Claire. Still in labor.
Charlie shows up.
Just like it was on the island.
Flashing, flashing, flashing.
Wow, that was like the shortest delivery ever.
flashing, flashing, flashing.
Aww....
Desmond shows up. His work done.
Do you understand? So now what?
Back on the island.
Everything is rocking and rolling.
Ben gets pinned by a tree. I can't say that's not satisfying.
Jack wakes up. But where's NotLocke? And where's Desmond?
This is about the time where Widmore should show up.
Ah, right this is the storm that was threatening to break.
Leaving in an hour.
Locke's boat.
Ah, Locke's by the cliff, preparing to leave on the boat.
Jack's there to regulate.
And it's on! I don't care how silly that shot was, it was also really cool.

Part VIII
fight, fight, fight.
crumble, crumble, crumble.
NotLocke stabs Jack. Right where he was injured in the pilot.
And the cut that he had in the alternate reality.
Kate is the one who kills NotLocke in the end. Or does she?
Jack knocks him off the cliff for good. Wow, I really did think that love and compassion was the answer.
Back in LA.
Post surgery.
Jack's neck is bleeding again.
Locke wakes up. and he knows it worked.
Flashing, flashing, flashing.
Flashing, flashing, flashing.
Jack's the last one to remember everything. That's our Man of Science.
I hope that somebody does for you what you just did for me.

Part IX
Kate and Jack on the cliff.
Now it's day again? Or I guess the storm just went away. Cause NotLocke kicked it for good.
Hurley and Sawyer.
It's over. Or is it?
Back in LA.
Sawyer and Jin and Sun.
I have to keep you safe. With all due respect. I am safe.
We'll see you there.
Back on the Hydra island.
The plane is ready to fly. Or is it?
Duct tape. That'll solve everything.
On the cliff.
What's your time table? Don't bother me! Sounds like they're making progress. (Hee!)
Jack has to turn the Golden Cave back on again.
Everyone says their goodbyes.
Ben and Hurley decide to stay.
Kate and Jack, aww...

Part X
Miles repairing the plane.
I don't believe in a lot of things, but I do believe in duct tape. (BEST. LINE. EVER.)
Walkie talkie, walkie talkie, walkie talkie.
Sawyer and Kate make a leap of faith. Youch!!
Back in LA.
Sawyer at the airport.
Runs into Jack.
The trusty vending machine. Apollo Bar gets stuck. The way it does.
And he sees Juliet!!!
And she tells him the Secret of the Vending Machine.
If you unplug it and plug it in again, the candy drops right down. Just like the Golden Cave?
flashing, flashing, flashing.
Sawyer and Juliet. Aww... Double aww... Triple aww...
