Well, here it is, the
What I Love About BtVS/AtS Discussion Thread!!! A few days ago, Sue posted a link to an LJ that had this meme running through it and we thought it would be fun to run that same meme here. The rules are simple: there are no rules. ;D Post what you love in list form, as single entries, however you want to share with us your love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Series. Do it by episode, season, or in no particular order at all. It's all good! Watch, re-watch, don't watch at all and rely on memory-any way you want to recall your favorite things about BtVS and/or AtS is a good way. So, without further ado, I declare this thread now open for business! I can't wait to see what's in store. ;D

Well, I hope to do some rewatching in the "near" future -- which for me may well mean in the next 2 years -- and post some specifics, but for now I'd like to list a few "side effects."
1. I love that watching BtVS introduced me to all things Joss.
2. I love the fandom. And I'm particularly glad that I just happened (thru great luck) to fall in with this particular fandom.
3. Oh, yeah, and I love James Marsters. I love that he is gorgeous, intense and one heck of an actor.
4. Separately: I love Spike. I love the character. I love his story/journey. I love how he loves and how hard he tries and I love all of his relationships. Not just with Buffy but with Dawn and Willow and Tara and even Xander and Giles and Anya and Angel.

I love Smashed. The hottest TV sex ever to involve not taking off a single article of clothing that still gives me the goobie wibbles.

I love that even with all the new TV on, Buffy is often my 'go to' show because I know I'll be entertained, enlightened, and more often than not, engaged in the story when I need a distraction. LOGO is rerunning tons of Buffy episodes and I can watch one or more a day - just like in the old days when I used to have it on getting ready for work and making supper later that day. Buffy is in my veins...subconscious...psyche...heart. There is always something new to ponder, even after 10 viewings. That is some kind of power.

I love how Buffy was a powerful roll model at a time I was looking for powerful female role models in my life.
I love how my re-introduction to Buffy through Jan brought me closer to her, and through her to the S'cubies.
Spike.
Drusilla.
Xander.

Giles gettin' his Ripper on. Just sayin'.
Oh, and Faith--for that particularly useful phrase.

I love Buffy for all the useful phrases, even if I get a lot of eye rolls when I use them. Like: The earth is doomed. You have stupid hair.
Ice is cool! It's water, but it's not.
Well, you're certainly a font of nothing!
Can you vague that up for me?And my all time fav Cordelia quote: What IS your childhood trauma? ;D

1. Spike, one of the greatest characters created in any medium
2. James Marsters, a brilliant actor
3. The Spike/Buffy relationship in all it's complexity
4. season 6, for its depiction of the messiness of life
5. the church and cross scene at the end of Beneath You, the coolest thing I've ever scene on tv, film, or stage.
6. The deconstruction of language, of the creative writing process, of genre, of archetype, of human relationships, and of the human condition.
7. how the shows contained derivative elements from so many sources, art, film, tv, theater, literature, religion, legend, mythology, history, pop culture, and philosophy, but managed to bring them all together to create something completely unique.
8. the exploration and validation of counter culture/fringe culture.
9. the amount of discussion that the shows inspired, even the silly and hateful stuff. I mean, I don't love the hate, but I do love that the shows made people care enough to have such strong opinions about things. And I love that almost everything that happened on the show could be seen in more than one way.
10. How the shows popularized genre TV and served as "gateway" TV shows for other similar TV shows, as well as the various sources that the shows drew elements from.
11. (this one's more specifically for BTVS) for the most frank discussion of sex and violence that I've ever seen, particularly in a show ostensibly targeted towards teens and young adults. Now, I don't believe that the art has or needs to have a "message" or even a positive one at that, but in as far as people can learn something from the show, I find it to have a very important role in our society in that regard.
12. for making books, libraries, and researching cool.
13. for the many scenes of people running in long coats. (What?! I can't be shallow?)
14. for inspiring me to find online fandom, lj, and here. And for inspiring me to start discussing an analyzing not only these shows, but all favorite shows, films, books, musicals, etc.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Allisan Hannigan who could make me cry with a look. Emma Caulfield who could do the same with a single phrase.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Allisan Hannigan who could make me cry with a look. Emma Caulfield who could do the same with a single phrase.*nods to all, especially the red* ANYA - "But I don't understand!"...........(crying) I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, (sniffling) there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. (still teary)
And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why.**Season 5 - The Body (as if any of you need the reference notation)

Now I can't bear to watch that episode at all.

The classic Cordelia phrase that I'm now using every time I tune into True Blood,
"Hel-lo salty goodness!"

Off the top of my head:
10. Buffy's "I don't want to die" scene in Prophecy Girl.
9. "That was then," and then boom goes the judge in "Innocence.
8. "Can I rest now, Buffy?" scene in "Beneath You."
7. Swedish subtitled scene with Aud and Olaf in "Selfless.
6. Hush.
5. "Why not call me 'horny Giles' or 'desperate for a shag' Giles? I knew there was a reason I hated you!" AND "Oh, listen to Mary Poppins. He's got his crust all stiff and upper with that nancy-boy accent. You Englishmen are always so...Bloody hell! Sodding, blimey, shagging, knickers, bollocks, oh God! I'm English!" (One I had many occasions to recall when living in England.
4. Band Candy.
3. The fact that there were always real consequences for things totally won me to the show; particularly, when Angel turned to Angelus, bad things happened that could not be undone.
2. Once More With Feeling.
1. The Body, which has a whole other resonance now and is the best representation I've ever seen of those moments following the loss of a parent.
