Welcome to Part 1134 of the Soulful Spike Society Main Thread.
We may not exterminate you, but we will give you the angry eyestalk glare if spoilers go anywhere but Spoiled Souls; if you want to talk on the main thread about a show just aired or casting news, etc, just highlight what you've written click the ghost-y looking button above the message area...
Our main thread is a veritable potpourri of topics. Except for a few: religion (like the Dalek Emperor), politics (which is the Dalek-backed candidate), and plans for world domination (ongoing). For that, we've got the Open Topics Thread!
POST! Heh. Home from out-to-dinner i service of my 29th wedding anniversary. OMG how did that happen? We decided to break out of the mold and have something other than Mexican, Thai, Indian or Cinease, and went to the Martin Way diner, where, seventy years ago when it was the Triple X Rootbeer Drive-in, and she was 14, my Aunt Nora had her first job; it was the Rib Eye forever and is now the Martin Way Diner, where the special tonight was Coq au Vin but we had steaks. The fries have gotten MUCH better, although the ones back in the 50s when it was still a Rootbeer joint were pretty darned good. Julia, v. busy day. Happy anniversary, Julia!

JUlia mentioned Pam Am. Didn't record that one. Had to make an executive decision on just how many new shows we could try to squeeze in. Trying 4: Ringer (not sure I will make it thru ep 3 want to say it's a cut right now.) Person of Interest (see below, definite possibilities) Prime Suspect (have watched yet) Terra Nova (suspect it will get cut but trying not to pre-judge) <snipped> I have the first two eps of Ringer in DVR but haven't felt compelled to watch. I have heard that Jason Dohring is going to be on the show, so I will definitely make more of an effort once he shows up. I watched the first ep of Prime Suspect and enjoyed it more than I thought. Also saw the first ep of New Girl (with Max Greenfield, who played Leo, aka Mumbles on Veronica Mars) and really liked it. I checked out 'Whitney,' another comedy, but didn't grab me. I've recorded Pan Am, basically on the good reviews/tweets that Tom & Lorenzo gave it, but have yet to watch. In other news, I watched the Cohen brothers' True Grit this weekend. Wow! Great movie. Have y'all seen it? I only remember bits and pieces of the original, and I know people are very partial to John Wayne's version, but I really loved this movie. Jeff Bridges is the man!

Tired. Crazy going on at work! Will likely be retiring by end of calendar year. Can't take much more. Girls doing well. Uncertain about the future, but that is OK.

The link says it all: Firefly, Playboy Club actor Sean Maher reveals he's gayTerrific article. I can't even imagine how hard it was to hide who he was for all these years, so I'm incredibly happy that he's now in a place both emotionally and professionally where he feels safe enough to share his story publicly.

Great- now I'm hoping Playboy Club doesn't tank for his sake, and for the sake of the part of the story he represents, even though the reviews are DIRE. Julia, alas, alas.

Person of Interest (see below, definite possibilities) Prime Suspect (have watched yet) Terra Nova (suspect it will get cut but trying not to pre-judge) That's all we have time to add on top of carryover shows, sports, news, BBC, Discovery, Science, History stuff the Jim records. And with Allie around we record her shows (mostly sitcoms and Drop Dead Diva even though she could watch them on her computer). And JIm records a lot of movies he thinks that he and Allie will watch together but she's out so much and by the time she's ready to watch a movies (9 or later) he's mostly aslelep in his chair.) but I digress, I've copied over the posts from the last part, no time to edit because I have appts early today: GYN, mammogram, blood draw and deliver 2 baby meals (St. B's has a LOT of pregnant women!). Fortunately I had leftovers from Sat. night worthy of making meals for new moms. Gotta run. New show alert: 10 minutes into the pilot ep of "Person on Interest" and very interested. I find Jim Caveziel and that guy from LOST (who I detested on that show) to both be very compelling. The idea is also interesting. Remains to be seen if it can continue to hold interest. But unlike some pilots I'm not forcing myself to sit thru it and sign up for a couple more eps to "give it a chance." On the other hand sometimes excellent premises don't play out. But the acting so far is very superior and the writing has been crisp. Especially liked the entire scene in the police station played out without words -- just glances. Quite good. So, Caveziel: I find him terribly gorgeous, incredibly compelling and, in the role tremendously scary. Generalization so I don't believe it is a spoiler (besides we are several days out) but if you want to make up your own mind and not have my 1 sentence description: Spoiler: He's like a Jack Bauer for the "little guy" (vs. the entire country) but better looking with better writing and acting and way scarier. From the get go I believe he will do just about anything, which is disturbing. Very VERY "nothing to lose." But he does have the same "super powers" as Jack -- being able to do all sorts of stuff in very little time and get all banged up but be fine soon thereafter. Wait: Saint B= Benedict? What a coincidence? I'm unlikey to watch Terra Nova as it hits my unkink for post-apocalyptic settings really hard. Ringer is in danger of being off-limits to my recovering soap addict status, and I keep forgetting Person of Interest is on. Franklin and I have talked about Prime Suspect and decided we are Helen Mirren fundamentalists. On the other hand, Fringe, OMG Fringe, what a great start to the season, even if they did killJoe Flanigan in the first ten minutes. Julia, should discuss that in the TV thread but must get dressed and go batten down the chicken hatches (heh heh, get it?) in case they're right and the wind will be blowing a gale this afternoon. Yes, Fringe. For those of you who didn't watch from the start (actually, me). This is a good show to Netflix and get caught up on. One of those lovely shows that starts out not too bad but has only been improving as it goes along. (Rather than the opposite.) Person of Interest worth checking out. St B's == Bartholomew Gyn: check Mammo: check Blood draw: supposedly faxed paperwork not there. grr argh. Then when it got there is was a bad stick so was stuck twice. However, on my way out ran into church friends -- young women all but totally incapacitated in her 30's from MS. So put in my place about my minor annoyances. However, got home to find a round robin of 16 emails from 2 church staff members re the women's database. [4 years ago we started our own email address and database. Now there is a new "Communications" position on staff and she want's everything centralized. Limits our mobility (everything having to go thru the office on office hours) but also makes a ton more work for the church secretary who keeps the database. Looks like the women's group may be caught in a "turf war" between 2 staff members. urk. Okay, got to run. Thought I'd have delivered those 2 meals by now but got delayed by the missing paperwork and then having to talk to both S and A in the church office.

It has most definitely been a 2 steps forward, 1 step backward kind of day.
Trying hard to focus on the forward progress of 1 step.

Always wished I'd seen the Mirren vehicle but we didn't bet BBC at that time. Now it's okay because I think Mario Bello is terrific. Whether we stick with the show may depend on time and Jim's input. We have a LOT of cop and lawyer shows and a number of female cop shows (Closer, Rizzoli and Isles). But Bello is top notch, supporting cast is good, writing is .. well characterization and dialogue were above average but the mystery and the linchpin of it's solution required some suspension of disbelief and it will depend on how much of that I have to do. In "real-world" type fiction I know it can't be totally realistic or we'd be too bored to watch. Just depends. Very nasty crime, though, so that may squick you out. Bonus is the casting of the guy who was a friend of Olivia's on Fringe. Lots of semi-familiar faces. Review I saw quoted the writer as saying she was going for a female Sipowicz and an NYPD Blue vibe rather than trying to copy Mirren exactly.

That guy's excellent in everything he does. And he doesn't get as much work as he probably could since he's very selective about what roles he takes (moral grounds), so it's always a treat when he does appear in something. I'm enjoying hearing about your opinion of the various shows, as it helps me know which shows are probably going to be worth catching up on later.

I'm up in Casper. Here for 2 months this time. Staying in an extended stay hotel next to the hospital. No internet at the hotel, but there is free internet at the hospital, so I'll be online intermittently. I like the neurologist I'm working with, so that's cool.
