Ah! Brings back sweet memories of this incident on our campus: For 15 years, Patrick Washburn has displayed a Reconstruction-era rifle on the wall of his office at Ohio University (OU). The firearm, a family heirloom passed down from his great-grandfather, seemed to be an appropriate antique for Mr. Washburn to hang there: Mr. Washburn is a journalism professor specializing in the history of wartime press.
But now, he's the one doing battle with Ohio University administrators . . . they dispatched campus police to Mr. Washburn's office and ordered him to remove the 1878 Springfield rifle . . . moreIt caused quite a ruckus, without even the saving grace of getting to see pretty Nathan Fillion pictures. I actually love this part of being on a campus - I mean, the drama! After nearly 25 years working in many capacities on this campus, and getting to know people from every part of the University, one of my very favorite all time quotes is from Henry Kissinger: "University politics are vicious precisely because the stakes are so small." B-but what was the outcome? Diane *fan of absurdist politics*

Please send some of these photos to National Geographic. You're as good as any photographer they've ever featured. These are wonderful. You've captured the uniqueness and beauty of each creature to perfection. What Diane says.

This is not going to be one of my better days. At 2AM, I was awakened by the sound of horking outside the bedroom door, and I never really got back to sleep. There was dozing, punctuated by weird fragments of nightmare, but no real rest.
And when I staggered out the bedroom door at 5, I found a lovely hairball with accompanying splatters, waiting for me to clean it up. This is not going to be a good day, at all, at all.

I put in my time. 3 full eps of Ringer. Dropping it now.
Can't make it thru the pain of innocent bystanders -- Bridget's sponsor, the lover's wife, FBI guy being used, husband being deceived. Don't like husband's partner.
It's meh and was work to watch rather than intriguing.
Prime Suspect and Person of Interest still getting recorded. Only seen one ep of each. Will depend somewhat on whether Jim bothers to watch. He is so busy and so far behind.
Allie is into Drop Dead Diva. meh.
Watched 2 eps of "New Girl." It's got some buzz. I seem to be out of the habit of sitcoms. It doesn't make me laugh. She's goofy but just in a dumb way (not like Sheldon on Big Bang -- goofy but clever). And the guy who keeps taking his shirt off is just really dumb and trying way too hard.
Did catch a few minutes of Suburgatory and it was entertaining. Young female lead is quite good. Only saw a few moments of Alan Tudyk. Probably won't seek it out. Am recording Community and Office (but I won't watch this -- Jim and Allie watch it -- it makes my skin crawl too often).

And a new development in my life is that I am apparently beginning to treat books like TV shows.
I am returning 4 library books only partially read. Well, 3 of them I decided within the first 2-20 pages not to bother. But one of them I've been reading for over a week and am 3/4ths of the way thru and realized that I don't care what happens to the central character (not "hero," just central char -- which may be the problem). It's like Mad Men -- too close to mundane reality to be the least bit riveting.
Apparently I prefer super hero characters and fairy tale endings. I used to read a lot of Michener and Clavell -- wonder if I'd have the patience any more.

Life is too short to bother with uninteresting TV shows or books. I have dropped both when necessary.
Newest on the list: Ringer.
Sorry, Sarah.

So what eventually happened? I do wonder about these things, although I have to assume that OU doesn't have an ROTC policy, nor a gun room in every dorm so that students can bring their hunting rifles with them (UM Missoula). It's weird the numinous force guns bring to any argument, and how bigger guns do not always shut people up: I once hosted a party where one of the guests decided to go ON about the necessity of the second amendment in empowering prople against an overwheening government. Just then the Fort decided it was time for a two-minute All Guns mortar and howitzer barrage and yet he persisted. Julia, guns are so magical that mere mention can make campus police pee themselves?

I myself have a Big Box o'Random Stuff, accumulated by Franklin at least since Christmas, dumped on the floor by the kittens, awaiting the mere seven hours of hired hand time I'll get this month. Life, dammit. Julia, and I overdid something yesterday and am ready to take two aspirin and go back to bed, argh.

Agree about Ringer, although I'll will probably see it thru for a bit. (Hated x3 seeing her sponsor getting beaten/drugged. Hated it!!!!) *Remembering Supernatural and how it took at least one season to get its legs.* But it will be a struggle. We'll see how it goes. Top of the list on my ''must see tv" is The Good Wife. Great soapy drama and excellent trials bringing up today's issues (last night's was a Muslim/Jewish conflict story - and that looks to be ongoing within the lawfirm for this season) and ongoing personal storylines. Not to mention the awesome acting, directing and guest stars. Best thing out there on tv. My favorite new show, so far, is Two Broke Girls. They do push the envelope concerning the sexual innuendo, but I can endure that for the rest of the funny. And I do love the real horse (non-talking baggage from the privileged roommate's past) in the courtyard. He cracks me up! They call his poop - Brooklyn! LOL! Anyway...funny stuff. Up All Night has been good for giggle, too. The Oprah-like character is hilarious. And the hot British neighbors were a good addition. Haven't caught up on Castle yet. Grey's was ok. I'll catch it when I can. Mostly, lately, I've been watching/reading about the protest on Wall Street. It's really disorganized, but the people are passionate about what they believe is a corrupt money system that is destroying the U.S. and their futures. Fascinating real life stuff.

Glad you are enjoying Caveizel. That guy's excellent in everything he does. And he doesn't get as much work as he probably could since he's very selective about what roles he takes (moral grounds), so it's always a treat when he does appear in something. I'm enjoying hearing about your opinion of the various shows, as it helps me know which shows are probably going to be worth catching up on later. Which is fascinating since the character has, at least as we know so far, a very unique moral code. (Help the good guys, get the bad guys -- but no worries re warrants, judge, jury, legal system, etc. Aka: Jack Bauer. Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I don't think he's against morally grey characters, just against sex, nudity, characters that are morally bankrupt, disparaging of christianity/catholicism. Or maybe he's just more flexible now than he was in the past.

And, again my petty annoyances are put in place: Tom's apt was broken into while he was in the shower. The "good" news is that even tho they cut his ethernet cord, dumped some clothes out of a bag, put both his work and personal laptops into the bag -- they left it on the kitchen counter. Maybe he(?) heard Tom getting out of the shower and just fled? His bike was moved from the living room to the kitchen (there is a back door there, one floor up). His wallet was left untouched next to his TV (too large for one person). The only thing he is sure is missing is his work I-phone. So he's gone online and reported it and had it "locked." But .... scary.
