Elder Daughter decided to make candles this morning. Which was fine, except that Husband then went all Me Too Me Too and took over the kitchen. Himself wanted to make huge candles in some gallon cans he'd brought home from work. Using partly new clean wax and partly "recycled" old candles that had been sitting in the patio for months. Old dirty candles, from which he saw no need to clean the grime and dirt and bits of twigs and old burnt wicks. Then he walked off and left the double-boiler and the melting wax unattended while he wrestled with blocks of wax out in the patio. Elder Daughter and I watched it for him. Our remarks were not kind. Also, because He Knows Best, he refused at first to consider using any of Elder Daughter's tools that make cutting large blocks of wax easier, such as and like the cutting board and big old kitchen knife designated for the purpose. So it got to be noonish, and I was dying for a cup of hot tea for my headache, and starving, and he was still messing with wax all over the kitchen. Eventually, I was informed that he would allow me to use the microwave. He managed to leave Elder Daughter's double-boiler and ladle and the saucepan covered in dirty wax with dirt embedded in it. I asked if he was planning to clean up after himself. He did, sort of. I suggested to Elder Daughter that if he did not clean up his mess, she should make him do it properly, because they were her tools. She ended up having to put everything away. Come to think of it, some of her tools are still out in the patio; I'd better remind her to check. I just now discovered he'd also managed to spill wax on the stove, when I put the kettle on and the burner set off the smoke alarm. This is something Elder Daughter hasn't done in months. It's like having a toddler. I've been through toddlers, twice, and I don't need another dose, and if I say anything at all, he gets all butt-hurt and mad. I just can't win. PS He couldn't get one of his gallon candles out of the paint can, because he didn't cut the rim off first. Which I could've told him, but he wouldn't have listened anyway. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr It was a learning experience? *sigh* probably not, I know, BTDT although not with candles, praise be. I myself got a bunch of stuff done outside and am waiting for my hair to get a little dry so we can go do another round of grocery shopping. (but first I needed to go shut Ian and Sylvia's door for the evening, which I did, and also took some sunset photos so I'm off to download them now) Julia, not idle, I'll say that for me.

Take on Grimm: It will be very good if they finally begin to get past the Monster-of-the-Week format. Right now it's repititious, but hopefully they will learn that storytelling and character develpment are much more important than how fangy a creature they can build.
Take on Husbands Who Destroy Their Children's Tools While Making a Mess They Expect Others to Clean Up: You can't cook because he left the kitchen a mess. You will continue to be unable to cook until he does. Meantime, take the girls (only) and eat out. If he gets pouty--pout back and make sure your daughter pouts too about his careless use of her tools and how he ruined her candle-making.

A good friend of mine had an article written about him in the New York Times. I put the link, and more about it, in the Admin thread. Thanks for that, Spring, it was inspiring and invigorating. Julia, so very rarely read something that matters like that. **nods** How's them chickens, sparky?

All great ideas, if I hadn't had a nasty sinus headache (we're back into Santa Ana wind season again) and we really needed to eat the leftovers from RSWP today. I lunched on leftovers and retreated to the bedroom with the new Sue Grafton. Elder Daughter made Husband re-clean her tools. She's going to be one hell of a professor some day. And next time he wants to play with melted wax, I'm going to remind him to make sure he gets all the spillage off the stove before he wanders off.

For me, maybe on getting the hell out of Dodge and staying there when he starts doing something stupid. For him, not so much.Younger Daughter finished the Fringe S2 finale just before dinner. I gave her leave to eat dinner in the den with the next DVD. She was very grateful.

Thanks for that, Spring, it was inspiring and invigorating. Julia, so very rarely read something that matters like that. **nods** How's them chickens, sparky? I managed to sell eight of the fourteen Easter Egger chicks yesterday, which was something of a peak experience: I'm hoping that I've got at least three pullets among the six I kept. Ian and Sylvia are adjusting to their new abode, although Ian is too dim to go in out of the rain if it's daytime. To whit (see wet tailfeathers): Elvis needs to move somewhere a bit more roomy, as he can only sit sideways on his perch these days. His wives, however, have a nasty condition called scaley leg mites, and he can't go in with them until they're healed (which involves spraying their legs with oil- good thing TJ's olive oil pan spray is cheap). Which is especially annoying because Malvina's going in with all of them to be the surrogate mother. I'll have a lot less work with five of them in one run! Anni-Frid, Bjorn and Agnetha (I sold Benny back in July) are happy in their hoop-house. I'm keeping Bjorn, and when I move Anni-Frid and Agnetha in with Ian and Sylvia he'll be living with the Easter Eggers, who are yet to get names. Julia, sorry if you're sorry you asked.
