Update: I drove to the collision center in Fullerton/Anaheim and collected the Husband and his belongings. The car may be totalled; it's dented and bent and one of the windows is broken and the fenders are ripped off. He thinks what happened is that he lost control, probably when a tire blew, spun out, was hit by several other cars and a truck and hit a wall before he was able to regain control and get to the shoulder. At some point in the next day or so, we'll know if the car is fixable or if it's declared as totalled and we'll have to replace it. But at least the Husband isn't badly damaged, although he's starting to ache. whimperwhimperwhimper ARGH: so sorry, that's terrifying! Sort of hope the car gets totalled, as that kind of extensive body work takes forever, and even if they do the whole-car CAT scan thing I always worry about occult frame cracks. Julia, hope Paul's aches get better with minor pain killers and a nap.

I expect it'll hit me at some point, but right now I can't deal with that particular future, I'm feeling kind of numb, just glad he's okay and home safe. Good thing we still have some of the money we inherited from his mom; there's more than enough to pay for another used Toyota, but we sure are going through it this year. Aged Mum will, of course, immediately freak out about her grocery shopping and whether I can still come up on Sunday and do chores for her. Because it's All About Her. Oh, and he's got a business trip at the end of October, too. Not even going to think about that right now.

Warehouse 13 was quite the cliffhanger. Artie went all Dark Willow. I dunno, I think maybe I'm burned out on the show, it seems like work to watch it. But I'll wait and see if they can pull this one out of the hole they've dug. Also and too, Younger Daughter is twenty today. Twenty. 20. How the heck did that happen? Happy Brthday to YD. You think this is a shock? Wait till you realize she's 40! Right there with ya on W13. It was hard to buy the premise, the Dark Artie was a difficult sell and Mrs Whatername always annoys me.

Here's hoping for no insurance hassles. Also, how old was that tire? If it's still under warranty there may be addtional coverage for its blowing when it did. Here is confidence that it will all turn out okay.

So!! I am in Columbus OH now. Moved in and started new job on Monday. Things are new and a bit overwhelming, but I know that I just have to stick it out and things will smooth out eventually. I have been told that it can take up to two years before someone as introverted as I am can feel comfortable in a new environment, so my running mantra has been "two years two years two years" whenever I want to go run and hide.
Keep a good thought for me, S'cubes.

Not that I actually cry (haven't been able to in several years), but the impulse is definitely there. I did not give Aged Mum a chance to play the "What about ME" card this afternoon - I told her what had happened and assured her that her shopping would get done in time for Sunday, even if I had to go to TJs on Saturday. TJs on Saturday is rather like the Hellmouth, only more crowded with idiots talking on cellphones and blocking the aisles with their carts.

So, I've done a lot of things this morning but none of them involve putting on my shoes and going outside.
Of course I've also not gone into the back bedroom and closed the window that's open all the way and making the house cold. Probably should do that, it was 38F overnight.
October, man, how does it work?
Julia, suppose I'll have to start the heat next.

It's official, Paul's car has been declared totalled. We don't know yet how much they'll give us for it, but at least we can start planning. Unfortunately, there won't be time to actually shop for a replacement until weekend after next, at the earliest.
I suggested he rent a car for a couple days next week so I can do driving errands. He's thinking of trying the express bus to Irvine. We'll do one or the other, I guess.
I guess it's proof that Toyotas do hold up, anyway, but I wish we hadn't had to find out the hard way.
I just suggested that perhaps Paul could take a day off next week so I could go drive around Fullerton, that is, run important errands. He rather likes that idea. Also he'd like to get another Matrix to replace his Corolla. Works for me.
