Thank you all for your condolences and love. She was 81 and she had a good life, full of family and music. And she made the most awesome pies. I am working on fine tuning her technique.

Ooooooh, how about flying buttresses or arches for her shoulders? Or maybe a turret for a hat? In gold and white, like a crown but also like a tower? Like a chess piece? Yes! And you could do that with panels down each side to give it structure. That's in, too. As is leather inserts.

Yes! Like a dryad/sprite/nymph/woodswoman thing! And maybe add in some very fantasy elements, like butterflies or birds or .... Cartoon birdies braiding her hair! *snickers* And we could have birds and butterflies and lightning bugs all hovering around her, like on those thin bouncy wires. ;D

OK - my internet is excrutiatingly slow for some reason, but here is what I have so far - it needs more to be more avant garde, and am working on a "castley" headpiece . . . your thoughts?

I think with a castley thing on her head, that'll be pretty darn avant garde! ;D But you could add a bunch of birds and bugs and squirrels wandering all over her instead or in addition. That would avant garde the judges' socks right off their feet! ;D

I always think of things like: cutting-edge, new, daring, not the same-old thing, the "advance guard" of something, not what people are wearing now but what they could wear in some amazing future, opposed to the mainstream. I have no idea if I am right.

OK - here ya go! To me, avant garde means that something about the dress has to be original and "out there."

I want to have ice cream for the fourth night in a row. Someone needs to stop me. It's not gonna be me - I see nothing wrong with this plan. I just did.

Runway time! Melissa - This turned out very cool and I like colors and patterns a lot. It is a bit clumsy/clunky in some places, though. The coral is indeed kick-ass. Fabio - Very cool - I love the deconstructive-y-ness of it, the upside down coat and then flip it around, the strips of the top so that it's like the dress is taking itself apart. But I still think it looks a bit heavy/dark. Dmitry - I really love this suit. The cut/fit is amazing, the skirt is interesting, the whole think looks amazing. But is it avant garde enough? In my opinion, it is not. We'll see what the judges think. Sonjia - I love this and hate it. The green is amazing/love the color - but en masse for the whole dress? It makes the fabric look sort of cheap. The bodice that looks like it is pieces flowing around her? Amazing idea! The construction of it? Not so good. The illusion netting in not illusion-y enough, and it should not just be totally backless, the wrapping and flow should have kept going in bits and pieces behind her as well, so it looked more organic and interesting. Christopher - Totally Disney villainess costume. And not in a good way. The shape is too blocky, the feathers on the arms are amateurish-looking, the black underdress is too standard and the overdress is floppy/tacky. Um. Gosh, I really ragged on this one, didn't I? I am totally prepared to be told I am wrong about all these! So, on with the judges! ;D

Eh. Not enamored of any of the looks. Out of all, Melissa's is the prettiest, colorwise. I like our look the best!

Anyone watching Grey's Anatomy? I find it very Buffy-like. Meridith can be annoying like Buffy was at times, and her best friend has all sorts of drama, like Willow did at times. Plus, a couple of hunky surgeons and the older, wiser adults in the room who are just as screwed up. Good times.
