So, the second series of Sherlock debuted tonight in the UK, but it should be here (on PBS) on January 15.
I'm rather squeeful about it, actually.

Thanks for the heads' up -- Jim and Allie have been wanting to know. Lots of things re-starting that week on USA, etc. If anyone notices when Downton Abby (first round) is repeating please let me know.

Parents visited. Exchanged goods and services. Minimal amount of conflict. Now they're gone. Yay.

I hope the new year celebrations went well for all and I hope this year beats last year and is much better. Warnings of doom, notwithstanding, of course. ;D

I've had a clear view of The Mountain every day since Friday; it is for once not a solace but rather a source of grief.
Julia, every year starts with its signifying tragedy, I guess.

Julia -- is it something personal or something in the news which I missed?
Nevermind. Sadly, I just saw the headline on yahoo news about the Mt Rainier park ranger being shot and the discovery of the body of the possible shooter. Sigh. I guess y'all are on holiday? (Esp. Spring -- on permanent "holiday" (ha!)) Vanderbilt, for some odd, obscure reason designated Friday as the holiday instead of Monday. (So, the 23rd and the 30th) -- maybe to just get the year started from the get-go on Monday? Of course, the university is out, so I mean the hospital staff -- and even those folks have odd holiday days since some must always work. The point being that Jim has gone back to work so it feels like a rather regular day here. He got in the mood on Friday and started the Christmas take down. Of course, once it is started there is nothing to do but continue on because there are boxes everywhere. So I've got the upstairs cleared (nothing up there by window candles), the kitchen exchange (cups, dish-towels) and the random around the house stuff mostly all gathered in one place. Since this has consumed large parts of Sat, Sun and today it was more strenuous than it sounds. However, the tree is still up and I have no plans to denude it until at least Thursday I'm guessing -- isn't that the Twelfth Day? St. B's has an Epiphany Chili cook-off (not clear where the chili comes in) and bonfire of dead Christmas trees) on Sunday.

St. B's has an Epiphany Chili cook-off (not clear where the chili comes in) and bonfire of dead Christmas trees) on Sunday. Sad indeed. We wanted to keep the tree a bit longer, but it was getting crunchy even though we kept it well-watered. Humidity consistently below 20% will do that... The ornaments are all packed except for one bird that needed its feet-clip glued back on, the light-strings are out in the patio, most of the pine needles are cleaned up, and the cats are sad. Husband goes back to work tomorrow. I have informed the daughters that tomorrow is the day I run the monthly PC maintenance, so they're both going off on the bus, probably out to lunches or something like that. I'll be doing laundry inbetween sections of maintenance, but at least I'll be able to listen to KPCC without annoying people, or people being annoying about it, or whatever.

I'll keep an eye out, they're bound to run it eventually. Besides, we'll be buying it on DVD as soon as it's available anyway. ETA: I just spent ten minutes looking up apocalypse and end-of-the-world quotes for the 2012 calendar, starting with the Buffy dialogue database. Happy memories...

ETA: I just spent ten minutes looking up apocalypse and end-of-the-world quotes for the 2012 calendar, starting with the Buffy dialogue database. Happy memories... Yeah here:http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/schedule/index.html (WGBH) says: January 15, 22 & 29, 2012 at 10pm (Limited TV airings; Check local listings) Sherlock Three 90-minute episodes Sherlock Holmes stalks again in this contemporary thriller, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (War Horse) as the go-to consulting detective in modern-day London, with Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) as Dr. John Watson. But here:http://www.pbs.org/about/news/archive/2011/winter-spring-2012/ says: From MASTERPIECE MYSTERY!, premiering at 9:00 p.m. May 6 and continuing through May 20, Sherlock Holmes stalks again in the three-part “Sherlock, Series 2.” This modern version, set in 21st-century London, stars Benedict Cumberbatch (War Horse) as the go-to consulting detective and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) as his loyal friend, Dr. John Watson. And I think it is explained here: www.pbs.org/about/news/archive/2011/winter-spring-2012/The upshot seems to be that they are going to an "encore" presentation of the 3 original episodes in January on Masterpiece CLASSIC, then the new eps will air in May on Masterpiece Mystery! At least, I think that's what I'm reading. Too bad, so sad.
