Welcome to Part 1139 of the Soulful Spike Society's Main Thread!!!! We owe it all to Joss Whedon. His genius in story-telling is the stuff of legend. And, it started (well, not really, but let's not quibble, eh?) with a tale about a petite blonde cheerleader named Buffy. One girl in all the world. Chosen to fight the forces of darkness blah, blah, blah. Well, you get the drift. That show started us on what has become a long, loving road of friendship, with lives filled with joy, sorrow, humor, fear, pleasure and pain. Kinda like the show. ;D We started out in another place but soon left to found our own home, beginning with a Website on which to post thinky things, essays, stories and bits of fun. Visit it. You'll like it, I guarantee. Because we never Hush up, we added this place, to be our Jossverse water cooler. We even have a water cooler for the water cooler, where we get together to talk about our favorite shows. If you're of a serious bent or a political Wild Thing, you can visit our boardroom to discuss the hot topics of the day that aren't touched on here. No matter where you look, either on the website or the various discussion forums here, however, you must follow the rules so we can keep civilization alive. Fail and you won't like what comes up from Beneath You. ;D Remember, we don't like to be spoiled so if you are going to spoil our favorite shows, please do so here or under the little ghosty button in the reply screen. Ignore me and I see pain in your future. With that, I'll stop being Prophecy Girl and open the door to posting heaven. Enjoy!

I like this opener.
Came into office today. Nasty note on my desk attached to my master copy of the docket telling me I didn't send out the notices for the 3/1 docket and they are now overdue.
Except that I DID do the notices--and my master copy is so annotated. I checked the files and the notices are, in fact, there.
HOWVER--someone added four more cases to the docket and didn't bother to tell me about it.
Any questions why I'm retiring?

Something for me to remember the next time I'm faced with harried court staff. You never know what shit has been dumped on them at the last minute. And, thanks.

Mistakes happen, especially in as stressful an environment as this one. What I can't deal with is that (1) I'm being blamed for the mistake and (2) I'm being called a liar because it just COULDN'T have happened the way I say it did. Even though I can prove it did. Yes, Onj, attorneys are VERY hard on court staff, but usually they aren't as hard as the supervisors are.

Another day, another tiny incriment on the chicken dwelling situation.
Chopped and Justified tonight, the latter the closest thing I've got to appointment TV any more.
Julia, wishing I were more verbal and ebuliant

Hi, S'cubes.
I am still getting used to this retired thing.
Having lunch with my SIL and a friend of hers soon.
The girls are keeping me very busy - I made them a heart-shaped meatloaf for dinner last night, which they enjoyed.

Going to have lunch with my niece at Wheaton, go to my nephew's basketball game (and see him presented on homecoming court), check out the hotel I've booked for Tom's wedding, then hang with Carolyn -- help her clean her apartment, do some shopping. Sadly, now my brother and 1 of my sisters reports that they cannot make the wedding and possibly another sister. Tom isn't terribly close to his aunts but it would have been nice. Well, youngest sis and hubby will be there as well as both Jim's sisters. Still the crowd is going to be heavily Sarah's family, friends, co-workers.

Julia, sounds like you're doing well.

I am at the pub and I have hiccups. I've only had a quarter pint of lemonade so I feel this is unfair. Nobody else is at the pub for at least half an hour because this is the latest the bus gets here. I thought I had missed the bus actually, but there was another bus. I shall have to study carefully to find when the actual last bus is meant to be. Tonight the Norwich Science Fiction Group is playing the Colony Game. I asked: What would you bring to an alien planet? It is an alien planet that looks a lot like Britain, especially the University of East Anglia. Because even my flights of fancy have a British budget. My characters bring a year of freeze dried food, a selection of guns (illegal, for cosplaying SG1) swords (vaguely legal, for cosplaying Highlander), first aid equipment, survey and cartography stuff, and whatever an astrophysicist could fit in the back of his car. Also hard drives containing all the classics of Earth culture, ie, fantasy and science fiction film and TV since Star Trek onwards. Once they arrive on the other planet, with convenient UEA shaped Lost City, it may well be hard to get some of them to budge again, seeing as they've brought enough video for their usual viewing schedule. So, explore Lost City by day, except for weekends, and SF marathons by night. As you may guess, this is not an official expedition. But I was trying to think of people who would be mad enough to be the first to ever step through a Stargate, and I didn't think the military would be top of the list. What about you? When colonising an alien planet, what would you consider indispensible? ... something that was not freeze dried, is very swiftly my lots answer...
