I love, love, LURVE Hinton Battle as Sweet. Some how he makes crazy-pointy-chin lobster skin guy (with a detachable mouth, no less) HAWT! R.I.P? Positively volcanic. When he drops to his knees on that "willing slave" line and completely eyefucks her? The girl must be wearing asbestos panties is all I'm sayin. Giles will NEVER want Spike's opinion? These guys do not know the valuable resources they are wasting because they keep discounting Spike and Anya. And the most lustful, loyal (not to mention combustible) member of the pack saves her. And some kiss! Can I ask those of you who watched the show when it originally aired, did fandom just go apeshit at that kiss or what? This episode is so amazing on so many levels. I think if I HAD to pick one episode as a stand alone favorite it would be this one. (Unless I wanted a funny one in which case it would probably be Something Blue. Or an Angel one in which case it would probably be Passion. But what about Fool for Love? HOW CAN YOU CHOOSE JUST ONE??) Seriously, I think I'm going to buy the soundtrack of this episode just so I can sing along to it in the car like a huge dork.Add me to the list of those addicted to the soundtrack. I also put the cd on repeat mode. You know you've got it bad when you catch yourself humming one or more of the OMWF tunes at your desk all day. leftylady

Hi, I am a newbie here, have been lurking for some time. Spring Summers' essays on Spike are so awesome, I wanted to write something about Buffy too. But without stealing her thunder the idea had to be different. It occurred to me that color might have some kind of meaning in Once More With Feeling. Finally I have got to write it. Perhaps it might be interesting to some people here. opinionatedmoi.wordpress.com/Thanks for reading.

I, too, think colors have meaning here and colors/patterns are associated with the various characters in the show. I haven't thought about the blues and grays used but I would add to the green/tweedy analysis that green is an earth color, indicating to me that the characters are grounded and mature. A lighter green maybe a bit less mature, but I haven't thought it out that far. ;D Thanks for sharing your thoughts and please, don't stay all lurky. Join in the fun!

You might be onto something with "grounded" and no-nonsense, but as for "mature", I am less sure, because Xander's actions occasionally are the opposite of mature and sometimes he is the voice of reason, quite like Giles and Tara.
Thanks for welcome, I like it here. I go to Whedonesque.com to read the news, but they are snobby, or maybe just high maintenance. It is said that there is no open registration, but in last two years the number of registered users went up from 7500 to about 9000. And blogging about Buffy apparently does not qualify for registration.

But, IIRC, Xander's clothes were generally more colorful and zany (remember Spike trying to off himself wearing Xander's clothes? Not exactly the image of the "big bad". ;D ) so his wearing of earth tones in OMWF may be his image of trying to be mature. And, by that time he has matured in many ways, though some of the most fundamental still need work. He has a job, an apartment, a fiancee. Perhaps his clothes were just image, but I tend to think they are a manifestation of his journey into adulthood. Many would not agree with me, but calling off his marriage to Anya was the right thing to do. He wasn't emotionally ready and to go through with it would have meant much badness in the future. His timing, however, sucked massively. Babbling here, without thinking anything through, but you get the picture. ;D Anyhow, it is nice here. Check out the main thread, or at least the main board. We have lots going on and feel free to jump in, introduce yourself and hang out. We love fresh blood new members. ;D

Welcome, Frankie! I believe that the color scheme and clothes choices were definitely significant on Buffy and Angel the vast majority of the time. The one thing that that might be worth exploring in more detail, if you were so inclined would be the red-->blue shift pointedly seen here with the demon, but also seen throughout both series. On Buffy, you see Spike wearing a red shirt early in the show and blue later. And on Angel, you see Fred associated with reds and pinks and later becoming blue Illyria.

At least, that's how it was several years ago - they were more likely to open the registration on weekends. Thanks for the compliments on my analyses! Please feel free to comment on any of those threads, or any of the threads. I am going to go read your essay, now - it sounds interesting . . .

I especially liked the red and danger connection, "With Anya though it is just the underwear – the remnants of her being truly dangerous." Very nice. Also like the interpretation of gray as Buffy (and also Anya) being between black and white, and Willow's purple as her . .. sort of going towards the "full blown red" (i.e., full blown dangerous) - with you surmising that the blue worn by Dawn suggests innocence, that fits well . . . Willow making the journey from innocene to danger. Really well done, frankie - thanks for sharing it.

Thanks, Spring Summers! I hope you will get to write some more on seasons 6 and 7. I would love to read that. You're welcome! I'm going to see if I can get one done this month. And try for one a month after that. My life has not exactly been calm, even, or predictable the last few years, but maybe I will get enough calm seas to get through S6, anyhow.

Alexandra P.S. And Spike in all his unclothed glory was well worth the wait. I've been rewatching the series and this is my favorite part about series 6. YUM!
