Michelle's show rocks. It's cohesive, it's beautifully made and it shows her viewpoint perfectly. I love the pops of color and even more I love the interesting shapes.
Stanley is going to have to go a far piece to beat this.

Patricia has gotten past her "home sewer" air that has haunted everything she's shown this season. It's ethnic, it's earthy, it's earth-loving. It remains so true to her roots. While it doesn't blow me away the way Michelle's did, it has a dignity, a voice of its own. I like it.

I'm afraid I'm underwhelmed by Stanley's collection. The opening outfit was a yawn; black capris and a brocade jacket? Really? Then he chose such dowdy lengths for so many of his best dresses. Finally that strapless, shapeless thing. It looked like he took a piece of fabric, sewed a seam down the back, turned over a casing and threaded elastic through it. I can make one in an hour and it will look just as good. Really, she looked like she had just stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around herself.
Disappointed.

Runway time! Michelle - Love the first dress! The colors and metal (obviously she was stealing from my collection - HA!) and shape and the heavy fabric. I don't love the yellow dress quite as much - the color of the "armor" over-bodice is too pale against the yellow and the skirt needed more subtle folding. Ah, the next dress in dark colors looks better. Oooh, now won in tans and orange, lovely and the following one on dark and camel w the red hat. Nice! Medieval lady and then the dark striped coat thing - Love! Nice skirt paired with semi-sheer blouse with large neckline/collar - cool! Again, the yellow - like this top better than the dress before.I even like the bleeding heart sweater. And then a super-cool long red dress. Excellent collection! Patricia - Lovely pink print on this dress and I really really love the red and grey scarf/wrap on top. I like the print pants but not as fond of the top - love the deep red color and the flow, but some of the cut seems off to me. The black leather pants are totally kick-ass, and I love the pattern of the fabric for the wrap-top; like the back, like the front a bit less. Black pants with grey and black patterned top - now it's the flip of the last outfit - love the top but am not wowed by the pants. Adorable red dress w/gold bits - very fun! And I like the red and green long dress that follow ... actually kind of love that red and green long dress. The short blue frilly outfit has too much going on and the shape is not optimal. Next skirt and headdress are good, but the top is not helping. Then the dress with the bodice that is not good but it has the lovely fabric in the skirt - at least she simplified the styling! I actually like the blue check shirt, but the shape of the leather shorts is still not good. Then the fab poncho thing with the horsehair (very cool) over leggings and boots - very hip. Now the blue dress with silver bangles - I like this much better in a dress than as just a tunic like we saw with the awful blue short/skirt thing. Stanley - Black pants w/black patterned tunic jacket (although I do love the fabric on the jacket) - Underwhelming. Gold dress shortened up to a top w/peplum - better, but not fab. Love the swingy black leather jacket, the dress it's over is lovely and elegant. Then another dress w/ black jacket - love the stretch and the subtle gold fabric. Man, I love this separates-look like dress with the attached jewel-things. I'm glad he kept the pieces together. Gold trench looks boxy on the bottom and ... I'm sad to say, not very youthful. Like the sparkly sleeveless dress from the front, not so much from the back. On the other hand, the next one with the same long/cape-like flow in the back - I really like the way it appears to be a top and skirt from the front, swing dress from the back. Oooh, I really really like this swingy strapless cocktail dress - love love love the fabric color and print! Shiny grey dress with muted multi-color over-coat is elegant, but again it seems to skew older. Not totally sold on the white w/gold pattern dress to follow, I think I like the idea better than the execution. Long red gown w/lace bodice is very very pretty - but rather standard. Whew! Time to post then watch the judges.

Obvioiusly Michelle heard you were doing your collection in those colors and decided to steal them from you. I like just about everything in her show even if I did find the colors a little drab. ITA on that first dress. I loved it. I liked the shapes and silhouettes she chose. I liked the toughness of it, the wolfiness (please SOMEONE tell me where I can get that wolf sweater.) I wasn't as excited as Nina over the bleeding heart though. I found it a little gross. I would wear medieval lady. It could be worn by almost any age. The sheer blouse might have been better with something else or by itself. I liked it but don't think it was shown to best advantage. Patricia did very well. So many of her runway challenges looked like she'd taken a Simplicity pattern and then made it out of her own fabrics with little eye toward construction. Not this time. I loved the scarves, especially that one with the feather print that made the model look like she was flying. Her work was impeccable even if I didn't like all of it. I still think that blue check shirt is entirely too cowboy for a runway. Stanley really lost his way with this collection. I wore things like he designed in 1965. That yellow shirtwaist is a near replica of one my mother bought over my protests that while the color was nice, the dress was dowdy, old fashioned and uncool--back then! His red gown is available in every David's Bridal across the country, its only saving graces were the beautifully flowing skirt and the fabulous color.

This should be interesting... Husband forgot to gas up his car last night (distracted by American Idol, but that's another annoyance altogether). There's enough in the tank to get to work in Irvine, but not quite enough to get home again. So I suggested he drive my car to work. His has gas enough for me to drive around Brea, pick up the catfood from the vet and like errands, if I so desire, and he can put gas in my car on his way home. They're both Matrixes, they both handle about the same, and since we still have a whole case of catfood left, I don't have to go out if I don' wanna. I can just go by the vet to morrow morning. The laundry is sorted, the cats are fed, the Husband has departed, the Daughters are sleeping in. Perhaps I'll go back to bed for a while.

This year's vacation plans, made yesterday:
Jim has accumulated so many SW points (over 100,000) that we booked 2 flights to Charleston where we will stay 5 nights in the condo my sister rents; then fly to Chicago and stay 5 nights with Jim's sister while seeing Tom, Sarah and Carolyn; then off to NYC for 5 nights to see Allie and Andrew (where we will stay in the apartment of the sister who will still be in Charleston), then home.
Of course we can also do touristy things while kids are at work.
So, 8 free flights and free lodging in all places leaves a great budget for rental cars, taking folks out to dinner, plays, etc. And will still be a fraction of last year's trip to Alaska.

Of course we can also do touristy things while kids are at work. So, 8 free flights and free lodging in all places leaves a great budget for rental cars, taking folks out to dinner, plays, etc. And will still be a fraction of last year's trip to Alaska. Sounds fun. Yes, airmiles do help. Beth had so many she covered my birthday trip to Cali. Am home on what may become a stormy day. Still working on my Victorian dress. Now am on the bodice which is terribly intimidating. I have to cut out the front twice. The patterns are not designed for women of quite my quantity of boobage. I now have the back at one size and the front at another. Re-cutting after I give my recalcitrant back a rest. Have a massage at 5. Finally took Bob's Christmas present to Massage Envy. So far I am singularly unimpressed. I had my first appointment on Thursday. The girl who did the massage did little or nothing for me. She focused everywhere but where I hurt, and when she did work there she made almost no attempt to work into the deep tissue. It was the worst massage I've ever had. However, in an attempt to make things right, the manager offered me a re-do for yesterday (Friday). The time was set for 10:30. I got a call early in the morning telling me that the massage was for 10. Too sleepy to do much arguing, I did manage to croak out, "Are you sure?" And they assured they were sure. I showed at 10 and was informed that my massage was (as I had thought) 10:30. At 10:24 the power went out. Nobody told me that they had no backup, so at 10:37 I asked what happened. Informed that nothing could be done and having wasted my morning I went home very disgruntled. They aren't responsible for the powerout, but they are responsible for keeping customers informed. So we are re-set for today at 5. Again, the manager is doing her best despite everything her employees can do to sabotage her, so this massage will be complimentary. We'll see. Not optimistic, but we'll see.

Well, yesterday's "maybe" storm dropped some six inches of water on us, flooding streets, causing power outages and generally wreaking havoc.
Bob came home soaked just from the car to the house.
My massage? You REALLY think I was going to go out in THAT? No way.
Back to square one? I never got to square one. And judging by how my head feels right now, I won't today either.
