Today's successes:
1. Just walked 2.4 miles! (took me 60 minutes, but hey)
2. Having dinner elsewhere (going out is not necessarily my favorite thing but someone else cooking is always good.)
3. It's Allison's birthday!
4. eta: I pushed us onto page 30!

So, I don't know about you guys, but I've gotten seriously addicted to Holmes on Homes, and Holmes Inspection on HGTV. Do any of you guys watch it? There is something so awesome about Mike Holmes, fixing screwed up houses for people who are hard up, suffered natural disasters, or got taken for a ride. Plus, there is the added bonus of me now being able to notice when some things aren't done correctly. Learning things from TV, who knew? And I know I might be watching it a bit too much, because I watched another HGTV show "Property Brothers," and thought, " Mike Holmes would eat these two for lunch." Those two are the polar opposite...they say they are helping renovate, but they don't do proper inspections, nor do they seem to listen to the homeowners. They are like glorified house flippers; covering up serious problems with paint and fancy furniture. Are you kidding? I want to have his baby. Seriously, I adore Mike Holmes. You are so right about the property brothers. My cousin, the civil engineer/contractor/builder says those guys do things on the cheap and don't do the job. Now, we may not be seeing everything since their show is only a half hour, most of which is devoted to the sale aspect of it and we don't know what kind of inspections they do before the cameras come on the scene, but the end result isn't always the best way of doing things, according to cousin engineer. ;D

And in the Douchebag of the World, Texas Edition, I offer you: Honor Student Supporting Siblings Arrested For Being Too Exhausted For SchoolThis girl, whose parents abandoned the family, is the sole support of her siblings. The judge, Lanny Moriarty, who was brought up on ethics violations three years ago, said: "if you let one (truant student) run loose, what are you gonna’ do with the rest of ‘em? Let them go too?” Yes, 'cause clearly she was just sitting around smoking pot and playing on her XBox. Not working two jobs while going to high school. Morons abound, darlin'. Morons abound.

On a side note, I really enjoyed "Revenge" this year. The season finale was really well done, paced just right and left the audience hanging by a thread. Anyone else watch it?

I agree. Although Damon is pretty yummy too. I can't say I know tons about home repair, but after watching Mike Holmes, it's kinda cool to be able to recognize small things. Like I was walking home from the coffee shop, and noticed that the brick pathway in front of this one house was kind of wavy. I thought to myself: "Well, that's because they put the bricks right in the dirt; there's no concrete underneath, so they'll shift when the ground does." And then I was all proud of myself for remembering that. I saw on the "Best of Holmes on Holmes" a part of the one where they rebuilt that woman's house in New Orleans. It was amazing.

Oh, and glad to have confirmation that the Property Brothers suck. I watched it the other night, and they had this cute little engaged couple buy this house, and when they pulled down the plaster on the ceiling, the wood structure beneath was totally rotted. All I could think was "Mike would have cut a hole in the ceiling to test it, particularly since there was CLEAR water damage to the plaster." Plus, there was zero indication that they dealt with the leaking tub that caused the problem in the first place.
I felt sorry for the kids; they seemed nice.
