Well, crashed and burned again- damage to the tune of huge bruise and abrasion on a previously unscarred bit of my left arm (probably the last bit which comes under that classification), re-wrenching of the Bad Ankle, and oh, yes, by the way, did something to the rib I cracked last summer, cool. Stupid burrowing rodents and insectivores. Julia, late getting to chores, the sheep will hate me. #grouphug#

Sue, you have a good-looking family, including you! Thanks. And now I will brag excessively: My family rocks. My immediate family rocks, my extended family rocks, my new in-laws family rocks and all of their friends rock. Got to Chicago on Wed. Had a very relaxed day at Barb's (Jim's youngest sister) who with her husband Sam and son Gus win the year's Hospitality Award. Thursday morning went over to O'Hare (which is a short round trip 30-40 min) from Barb's and picked up my youngest sister (49 to my 60) Lynn and her husband Jack, who very nearly died just a month ago. He's lost about 50 pounds and moves fragilely, looks 15 years older but improved obviously from day to day). They had planned to come a day early and tourist around Chicago but instead came straight to Barb's where Jack spent the afternoon resting, then we took them to a hotel very near by. Sometime Thursday (I lost track of the comings and goings) Jim's other sister Nancy arrived from Pittsburgh and headed off to Wheaton to see her daughter [Meanwhile, Barb continues to work on the church homeless program, Gus's boy scout pancake breakfast and drive to his away tennis matches which feeding us, Lynn and Jack and ....] late Thursday night we ran back to O'Hare and picked up Allison and Andrew.] So Thursday night Gus slept on the a blow up mattress while we had the guest room, Nancy had Gus' bed, Allie had the daybed in the den and Andrew slept in basement. Friday was cold, windy, overcast and all flights kept getting delayed. We had hoped to pick up 2 more at O'Hare before heading off over to Evanston (min 45 minute drive east of Barb's suburb) but as they were delayed we headed out with just Lynn and Jack. [Allie and Andrew took off early to head downtown --- after driving Gus to school, Barb took them to the Blue Line-- from there they eventually got themselves back out to the rehearsal in Evanston.] Checked into the hotel. Meanwhile, back at Barb's she went twice more to O'hare for Bonnie, a church friend of ours, and my sister Terry (who flew on stand-by buddy passes from Roanke to Atlanta and after waiting thru several over-booked flights finally got a seat). Sam brought Gus to the rehearsal while Barb and Nancy brought Terry and Bonnie straight to the rehearsal dinner which was part-way downtown.
To summarize: at least a dozen of us flew in on 7 different flights (and back out on 7 different flights) over the course of 5 days and everyone of those passed through Barb's car and/or house or was fed or transported by them. They ROCK!
=======================
So we got to Evanston and checked in at the Margarita European Hotel, which is sort of an over-sized bed and breakfast with one tiny ancient elevator (yes, the cage type) and run by 2 little old ladies of the Dame Edna variety. Wildly over-heated (we just opened windows and let the 42 degree Chicago wind blow in). We had 9 of the 30 rooms and the others were all filled with high school kids form the U of Chicago lab high school who were competing at Model UN at NU. Very polite geeks!
Rehearsal.
Rehearsal dinner (to be continued)

And now for a brief digression into time zones and weather: Seoul is 14 hours ahead of us. They departed O'hare at noon yesterday and arrived in Seoul at 4 pm Tuesday (that's a 28 hour time diff but 14 of it was time change, still 14! hours on the plane!) Still they arrived 2 am last night our time and should be headed to Manila around 6 this evening (8 am Wed for them). That's only a short hop of under 4 hours and they gain an hour back as Manila is only 13 hours ahead of us. Current weather in Seoul is 62 degrees and cloudy. Tonight: www.intercontinental.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations/mnlha?sicreative=8222384269&dp=true&sicontent=0&sitrackingid=203029810&siclientid=4973Tomorrow's weather in Manila is 95 degrees with a heat index of 105!!!! and "lows" of 83. [This after 35 in Chicago on Thursday night and pictures by Lake Michigan with a "feels-like" temp in the low 40's on Sat.] Thursday-Wed: (2 nights in a cliffside room, 4 nights beachside) www.elnidoresorts.com/elnido/miniloc-island-resort/about-miniloc/Depart: Wednesday, May 2 - 1pm, El Nido to Manila via boat & ITI --Wed night, Thurs, Fri, Saturday in Manila Depart: Sunday, May 6 - 11:45pm, Manila, Asiana Airlines Stop: Incheon Airport 4:45am - 11am Depart: 11am, Incheon Airport, Asiana Airlines Arrive: Monday, May 7 - 9:40am, O'hare They'll have a few days in Chicago and then head to NYC for the wedding of Sarah's cousin. Finally, 3 weeks after the wedding she heads back to work (her law firm has no official number of days off policy as long as you make your annual number of hours -- which is why she was working 80 hours since Jan) and Tom will start job hunting BIG TIME.

Was just thinking of you, be, because I was reading a book set in England and had to look up the word "stroppy" - after I checked to see if you were online and might enlighten me. That word was a new one on me - turned out, according to the "Free Online Dictionary" anyhow, that it means "ill-tempered, easily offended." The context had me thinking it meant "aggressive," which wasn't quite right. Anyhow,

Sue: Great pics. You and Jim look great! And what a beautiful bride. Your kids are all cutie pies, also. Anyhow, glad it all went well. Next stop: Grandchildren! Which you know, suits a woman in her 7th decade . . . . Sorry, couldn't resist. You look great in the pic and if I had to guess, would guess mid-50s.

Today is the first day I would be at work and I'm not. Decided to celebrate and get manicure and pedicure. Back in January I took off the acrylic nails I've worn since the early 90s. They're now almost completely grown out. So today I had clear shellac polish and they look like the acrylics did only they're mine and a little shorter. Natural nails. My own.

Lovely photos, Sue. My friend D. had a Korean double-scoop wedding last year or the year before; her first husband was Korean, and their elder son married a Korean woman. It was a little awkward, as they had been divorced for several years and both remarried, but her parents-in-law had not been informed of those events.
Julia, slowed down this morning and rather glad my hired hand was not able to show up
