The good news is that the Younger Daughter went down to college this morning, talked to a counselor and was able to get into a trig class, which was the prereq for the computer class she really wants, Aged Mum has not called with any complaints about anything (although the day is young) and both weekly PC maintenances ran properly. I even tracked down the charger for Himself's cell phone, which was not where it belonged. After searching in and around the power strip it's supposed to live plugged into, I was inspired to check his suitcase, which was still sitting in the bedroom partially unpacked from his business trip back in May, I think it was. Much to the delight of the Fluffycat, who sleeps on top of the suitcase and the several pairs of work pants he tossed there. Anyway, there was the charger. No, we don't use the cell phones much.
And then the little annoyances began to arrive.
I got home and discovered that the nitwit who bagged my groceries at TJs had put one of the half-gallon milk jugs on its side. As a result, the cucumbers were wet and the bottom of the insulated bag was milky. I called the store and registered a formal complaint, then washed out the bag and hung it out to dry.
Then I got a call from someone calling himself "The Air Duct Guy" who, when I said, politely, that we are on the do-not-call list and please never call us again, made some snotty remarks ending with "How's that working out for you then?" in regard to the list, and hung up on me.
I filed a report, but without a phone number, it probably won't do any good. No, we don't have caller ID, but since from what I understand, most of these scam artists block their numbers anyway, I don't see much point in paying extra.

I would like to ask a massive favor of my dear S'cubies. Texas Renaissance Festival is running a contest with Feast Hall tickets as the prize. They've posted a photo on their Facebook page and asked everyone to caption it. I would dearly love to win this one. All I'm asking you to do is please go to this page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.406694456187.184967.101570651187&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=10150963557726188&set=a.406694456187.184967.101570651187&type=3&theater Then scroll down to my (Diane Ullman) entry. There's a lot of entries, so you have to expand the list by looking at all the previous entries. On one try I was about 35-46th. Please "like" my entry. Most "likes" by 10AM tomorrow wins. Thanks so much! Thank you all who helped. I have 10 "likes". The lead person has 12. If anyone has a FB account and hasn't yet helped, would you please? I need at least 4 more.

Almost forgot - would anyS'cubie like a set of Tanya Huff's Blood series books, in three paperback volumes? I picked them up at a Friends of the Library shop because I wanted to read them and had never been able to find all of them. But I don't need to keep them, and would be happy to box them up and ship them to a good home. First person to IM me with their mailing address gets the lot. If nobody accepts in a few days, they'll go in the donation bag. And Erin's got 'em.

I'd be interested, if nobody has already expressed interest. I'll IM you now.

Also the "Ashes" series that picks up where it leaves off and follows Henry Fitzroy. They're a good, good read. I lost a few of them when I moved, but if I replace them it will be on my Kindle since bookshelf room in my house is at a severe premium. You won't regret them, they're very good. BTW, we have talked about the tv series (now out on DVD and available on Amazon). If it wasn't Buffy (what is?) it was engaging, fun, sometimes really scary and occasionally very sexy. Interestingly, the American Being Human briefly featured Kyle Schmid (Henry) doing what JM swore he wouldn't do: playing another vampire named (of all things) Henry!

They are hard to find; even the OC library system couldn't provide me with the full set, so I was happy to find them all at once.

Sheesh. First JP Patches dies, then the Ms trade Ichiro to the Damned Ones.
This is not a good week in the upper left hand corner, y'all.
Julia, alas, if that good.

Heh. I was moving bookends around my craft bookcases, because I got some new vintage ones, and I said to myself that I would move the filigree B&N bookends to the headboard bookcase. At which point, my brain produced the phrase "filigree Siberian hamster".
Fawlty Towers references. My brain is a very weird place.
I am attempting to remind myself, when I start obsessing over things I can't control, that if I can't control it, and it goes wrong, it's Not My Fault. Since I have been conditioned since birth to feel guilty about everything that goes wrong, this may take some time. Possibly a baseball bat. Wish me luck...
