What's the challenge? Hmmm. "Time off?" NEVER believe these things, designers!
Design for "the Belk customer" - the modern Southern woman, vibrant, expressive, colorful and feminine.
I think a dress, for sure. Maybe transform a "Sunday go to meetin'" style dress into one for brunching or going out dancing?
What color(s), do we think?

Dressing the Southern Woman? Oh dear. I'm strictly Bo-Ho myself. But maybe chiffon? Floral prints? Chintz? Chintzy Prints?
Full skirts?
Am I going too Gone With The Wind here?

So how would we modernize and sophisticate-up Sunday go to meetin' clothes? Make them less fussy, not ruffles and bows, but clean lines in bright color - maybe pattern - but not a fussy pattern, a bold geometric pattern.?
I'd like red, or a deep emerald green, maybe with black?
A bit of a flair to the skirt, but a clean, simple, sleeveless bodice. Architectural shoes and a large brimmed hat that is very sleek looking, small crown and just a wide flat brim.

Oooooh, we do the same idea to a "gone with the wind" look - modernize it by going clean and bright! Lime green and brown, geometric pattern perhaps? Flowy long skirt, but in a light shear fabric that looks sexy rather than fluffy?

That's it. Turn this: Into this: Yes!!! Excellent!!! Thin out the skirts, remove a bit of fussy ruffly stuff, and brighten up the color! Keep the greek key design and use a slightly smaller version of the perky hat in a sleek sheath, knee-length sleeveless dresss topped by a swingy jacket with a hint of ruffle softening the collarless, ever-so-slightly flared 3/4 sleeve.

Runway time! Woot!
Ken - Love love love the color, but the dress is not fitting well. And is a bit blah, design-wise.
Helen - I like the shape, very modern and clean. And the colors are good, but the big flower pattern? Hmmmmm. Not liking.
Justin - Love this one! Simple, but I really love love the color and it has flow and fun to make it stand out a bit.
Alexander - No. No to the fabric, and especially no to putting that fabric into that shape. No!
Alexandria - This is not as bad as it could have been - the sheerness makes it less bulky looking. But it's kinds basic.
Bradon - I actually really like this. Love the clean bodice, the pattern is not overwhelming in the way he's put it together. Nice.
Dom - Very pretty, flowy, like the colors. A bit too simple, perhaps? But very pretty! Love the neckline.
Jeremy - Hmmmm. Like the jacket, but the whole outfit reads a bit older/business-like, I'm thinking.
Kate - I am not liking this print. Looks too little girl, too precious-twee.

I'm cool with the winner - I really like the shirt-dress bodice, very cool.
And a (never in the hx of blah blah blah) twist, we don't have the auf'er yet.
So, the changed bottom 3
Ken - Well, it's not as boring, but it's not spectacular. It went from nightgown to somewhat generic club-wear. Kinda tacky.
Dom - Oh, this is very lovely! Pattern is nice and has a bit of interest. Very fun.
Jeremy - Definitely younger, more modern. Not perfect, but better.
Yay on the Dom thing! I would have been happy with either of the last 2 being tossed, so c'est la vie!

Happy Friday the 13th, S'cubies!
I took my car to the mechanic yesterday, for a new door handle. While they were replacing the handle, another plastic bit broke, so they had to order more parts, which should be there sometime today. So my simple couple of hours repair is now a simple maybe-this-afternoon-if-the-parts-get-there-today repair. Not that I'm superstitious or anything...
Here, have some cookies and tea. *Carefully rolls tea cart into Thrall Room. Does not fall over own feet, furniture, cats or S'cubies.*
So what's up? Anybody doing anybodything interesting this weekend?

Here, have some cookies and tea. * Carefully rolls tea cart into Thrall Room. Does not fall over own feet, furniture, cats or S'cubies.* So what's up? Anybody doing any bodything interesting this weekend? Well the Bobman and I have decided on another cruise for early next year. We found this one which is right up our alley so to speak. I have to renew my passport which, like everything else having to do with government agencies is a massive pain in the This, of course, will necessitate a whole new dress for Her Majesty. And my daughter (member daughterofd, for those who care) is throwing what promises to be the Halloween BASH of the year. Thing is, while I have a closet PACKED with costumes--they're nearly all historical reproductions. I'd like to go as something Halloween-y or fun and NOT historical. Unfortunately, commercial costumes are severely lacking in anything resembling originality and Plus size is even MORE limited, trite and cliched. I don't want to make one. My Making Plate is already overflowing. Anybody got suggestions?
