All I know is that being in Ohio used to make us swear more than usual (for years we drove I-75 (I think?) through Columbus from Nashville to Pittsburgh and it was ALWAYS under construction. With multiple babies and kids on a 10 hour drive it drove us nuts. Noticing that 4/5 of the courteous states are Southern (bless you heart) but TN is incongruously in the top 5 LEAST courteous states along with Yankees and mid-westerners. Interesting. (Maybe because half of Nashville is populated with "immigrants" from the north.) Oh, and Spring, sincere apologies for dissing OSU -- you are quite correct that they WON that game. I was just in shock over the MI coach's decision to risk it all on 2 points. The correct use of the phrase "didn't lose" or "not-loss" would be in the case of Vanderbilt's "not-loss" over U of TN 2 weeks ago. Game was recorded as a win because we got more lucky than they and time ran out before we could give them the lead again. One of the worst played games (and as a Vandy fan I've seen a LOT of bad games) I've ever seen. OSU won, just like Auburn won. NOthing was handed to them. Mea culpa.

One of the worst played games (and as a Vandy fan I've seen a LOT of bad games) I've ever seen. OSU won, just like Auburn won. NOthing was handed to them. Mea culpa. That's I-70, through Columbus. It traverses the whole state (cincy to cols to cleveland) so no doubt there is almost always construction somewhere, and I know it has been frequently in the Cols area.
I don't know what to think of Ohio's high ranking in being swearrific; I can only guess the survey was taken during Michigan week.
No problem about the game; I'm not usually one who goes for the "not loss" or the "ref won the game for them" stuff, for any team or game. The crazy breaks are part of the game for everyone. Take your luck and take your lumps. The sports press seems to make more of it for some teams than others - a last minute win by teamA shows how amazing they are; the same type of win by teamB shows how weak they are. It's nutty. I hope this "BCS reform/playoff" stuff makes for a better system. Someday.

I think Illinois' ranking fell because I left... Ha! Sorry, busy with wrapping Christmas presents to get shipped, baking cookies, and dealing with my sister's breast cancer diagnosis with is not good. Surgery, chemo AND radiation. Very much a bummer. Still, I am watching a fair amount of really watchable TV: Arrow, Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, White Collar, SHIELD, Homeland, Big Bang, Crazy Ones, and even if you don't regularly watch Psych I'd suggest recording the 2 hour musical special on Dec. 15: Dule! singing! and dancing! Promos look a hoot! And planning the drive back up to Chicago in (really?) barely more than 2 weeks. Yikes! Got to go wrap! mail! bake cookies! At least we didn't decorate AT ALL (too bad Jim hauled all the boxes out of the attic way back in October when I was up helping Carolyn. For the most part we've just lived among the 15 giant cardboard boxes for 2 months now. And they will need to be hauled back upstairs and back into the attic. But that's his job. (I may have to put an Easter deadline on it!) Oh, and then there is the small matter of a termite nest in the playroom closet (no active termites, but it will mean re-treating) AND the fungus growing underneath in the crawl space which is going to require a pretty big deal. We would just decide to sell the house but nobody in their right mind would buy until those two problems are fixed AND a new furnace/AC unit is installed. So the sooner the better since we have to live with it all. (much of this was all put off during the last 3 years of chemo/wedding/chemo/wedding/wedding merry go round. Life: comes at you fast!

*waves, tiredly*
I had to call a repairman because the dryer went from making scary grindy-scrapy noises once in a while to making scary grindy-scrapy noises all the time. The good news is, we got the repair guy within a couple of hours, he had the parts on his truck, and it seems to be fixed. Although I have been instructed to call right away if anything happens that I'm not happy about, because he's not convinced that he fixed the problem. So far so good, though. The bad news is, that's another $255 I hadn't expected to come out of our rapidly eroding household budget. I can't do without a dryer, though, especially in winter.
Also I went and read about thyroid surgery and after-care for same and physical restrictions after same. Suffice it to say that Aged Mum will not be best pleased, as I will be unable to perform my expected duties for her for the rest of January. Also too it's all very scary.

Fun later was watching them for a full formal "cutting of the .... cinnamon bun" Watch Doctor Who last night, but Jim fell asleep so I'll be watching it again. be! thanks for making it even more enjoyable with our reactions and thoughts. (anne and Diane also). Finally: Almost Human: HIGHLY recommend, HIGHLY. A wedding?! I love weddings! Drinks all around!! Congratulations, Sue.

Wow, it's been over a week since I've turned my computer on.
Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving.I had to work, but one of the attendings cooked extra and brought it to us. Then I went down and spent the weekend in Elk Mountain.
Halfway through night float, which is not as bad as I was fearing it to be. Actually, the only bad part about it is that I have to work at night.

I think Illinois' ranking fell because I left... I'm flumoxed at Washington being the least foul mouthed, although I guess they just didn't get around to loggers. I'm supposed to be dragging hot water around outside to thaw chicken waterers right now. The fact that upsound has been in the 20s and 30s means that the cold, cold weather in the rest of the state is getting ignored in the national weather reports; it hasn't gotten above freezing here since the first, and my overnight low last night was 8.2F which means NOTHING has thawed, and we've had to keep water taps running in the house in the daytime, ugh. I can't get warm, and it makes me even more fatigued. Julia, stupid fucking jet stream, it's ten degrees warmer in Anchorage right now.
