Doctor Who!
*runs in trailing scarf and waving sonic*
*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
That was AWESOME!!!
They fixed it! With, like, the most giant retcon ever, but it still passes as a reveal, just about, squeakily, and such an excellent un-ending!
And EVERYONE was in it! Not all the actors but all the Doctors. (And we need a new numbering system.
Thanks a lot Moffat, you know what you did there. Giant troll, that man. ... in the fun ways. ... mostly.)
But! The Doctor, and all the Doctors! All 13 of him! Oh that was a very good trick. Excellent trick!
And maybe Clara was born to save the Doctor, but the Doctor has spent all his lives saving Gallifrey. And the Bad Wolf saves all of them.
(And the Bad Wolf is Rose and is the TARDIS and is everywhere and everywhen and excellent.)And all the bit with the UNIT people! I like them already and they existed only very few minutes.
... I has much squee and wish to hug this episode very much and yaays and yaays...
They fixed it! They made it better :-) !
See, always it is the Doctor that is needed. Not just the warrior. There's always another way.
*happy bouncing*
See, I'm sure there's things to
think about this story too, but I am busy having feels about it, and the thinking may have to wait. Quite a long time. Yes.
I was worried in the middle though. When all three of them had their hand on the big red button, so he wouldn't do it alone, that was a plausible thing. That would have been very bad no good. But that was the solution of Doctor without companion. Companions need to poke him sometimes.
... I could go into gendered readings of women as moral conscience in convenient attractive external form, but I am having squee not theory.
Making the whole of Gallifrey into a painting is like becoming stories in the end, or everyone making a song. It's about art saving us. Which is sort of cool and sort of patting ourselves on the back a bit.
I liked the gallery of dangerous things.
... I don't think I liked a single thing about 10 marrying Elizabeth I though. That bit was rude and stupid. Because it's partly laughing at the Doctor for being a stupid head, but it's quite a lot laughing at Elizabeth for marrying a stupid head, so I don't think I like any of it.
It does explain a few things. It's just not a nice explain.
... they managed to revisit 10 and remind me of all the reasons not to be sad he's gone. That seems a bit unfair really. Especially since we know 12 already.
(Yes I'm sticking with the old numbering. Because! Because it has been years and you can't just renumber everyone.)
(You know that bit where she's ordering the files from 'Cromer' from the 70s or 80s depending on dating system? UNIT years: messed up even from the inside. So what does teh Moff do? :eyeroll: )
... we saw 13 Doctors! All together! Saving the day!
*eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
... I like it best when I'm having bouncy squee feels.
I liked the solution to the Zygon thing: make a treaty while you can't remember which side you're on. That's a very good trick. Also a good trick, the bit with the statues. All that Zygon stuff would have been plenty fun even without the Gallifrey stuff.
Putting everything we know about Gallifrey in the Time War together makes this a bit not hopeful. Like, Gallifrey is in a painting now, but it was very very dangerous indeed to all bystanders before it went in the painting, so possibly the painting is not a great solution and getting it out again would be... difficult.
But that was why the focus on the children. Having billions of children means having billions of people who weren't making a war and hadn't been around long enough to do anything wrong. So he's saving them.
It do make a different sort of Gallifrey though, to make it be billions. Actually it's a different from some versions Gallifrey to make there be childrens, but that was done ages ago. It's just a lot bigger than a citadel now.
which is logical for an entire planetary civilisation.
I want to see what happens next.
And also to go watch this again immediately.
This is the proper response to a story.
:-D
All the Doctors! Together!
Yaays!
... I'd like to keep talking about it, but I'd pretty much be repeating it a lot. I just like the idea that all Doctor Who fans around the planet are having the exact same squee right now.
50 years!
... onwards to the next half century!
