Perhaps it's not us and it's not Buffy that have declined. Perhaps it's just because we're using a method that is becoming obsolete. I say this because there is a living, thriving Buffy page on Facebook. It seems that a new generation has discovered the Scoobies, Slayers and just how awesome Spike's cheekbones really were. Many are not much above the "Spike's hot and u r dum" level of posting, but some are trying their best to make a real study of the show in all its awesomeness. There's a whole new crop of fans who are asking themselves "WWBD?" Check it out: www.facebook.com/groups/2204367513/?ref=bookmarksNo, they're not us--but then we weren't always US either. Once we were part of ScoopMe. Then we had to break away because ScoopMe grew too polar and then declined and died. I'm not talking about disbanding (heaven forfend!) but rather re-connecting--re-invigorating. An awful lot of inactive Scubies are out there, too. I hesitate to suggest, but maybe we ought to think about just moving house? Interesting thought, Diane . . . how are you imagining this . . . S'cubes joining that fb page you mention? Setting up a Scubie FB page for S'cubies to join. . .?

Watching most of season 7 as it airs on FX. There was a LOT of hitting -- I know Buffy is the slayer but I guess in the current climate of awareness of violence toward women I wonder whether it would have been made/aired nowadays?
Also? "Touched" has some extremely hot sex-scenes given that no actual nudity of private parts (ala current cable) is shown. Willow/Kennedy (yowza); Woods/Faith; Xander/Anya; and of course: Spike and Buffy comfort.

God, I should go back to my analyses before I get too old to think that hard.
Anyone care to give me your thoughts on this Buffy related item? I was up late the other night, and watched an old episode of Golden Girls, which showed "Tom Whedon," Joss's dad, as co-executive producer.
In the episode, Rose, Betty White's character, is dating a new man named Karl. Her old boyfriend, Miles, has had to relocate within the Witness Protection Program because his criminal nemesis has located him and is out to kill him. Anyhow, it turns out that Karl is the criminal who is looking for Miles, and he is using Rose to try to find Miles.
Anyhow, here is the part that made me go "hmmm." The name that is used for the criminal (calling himself Karl) is "The Cheeseman." Throughout two episodes (it's in two parts), everyone continually refers to "The Cheeseman."
Coincidence??

omg, all that analysis of what the cheese (man) meant and it was Joss' shout out to his dad. very cool -- great catch Spring.

Hugs you all! Vlad - my sediments exactly. The S'cubies came about in a Perfect Storm. Right mix of thoughts and opinions that bounced off each other in just the right way, with just the right amount of rule development. Can it happen again? Probably not. Hell, it was hard enough getting everyone to participate in other Joss creations. We could move on to something fun. There is a new show called 'Last Man on Earth'. I watched it last night. It was funny, if you can get past the bathroom humor, but at the same time thoughtful in the way it tried to analyze what a person would do IF they were alone on earth. Lighthearted, because of course, there is also a 'last woman'. Check it out if it reruns, and see what you think. In this day and age of 'end of the world' gloom and doom talk, it might be something fun to bounce around. Just a thought! www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2015/03/01/last-man-on-earth-review/23743473/What would you do if you were the last person on earth - just exist by foraging what is left in the houses, or would you make a living for yourself ? And is this something we should be asking ourselves in real life, even though we aren't the last man on earth?

omg, all that analysis of what the cheese (man) meant and it was Joss' shout out to his dad. very cool -- great catch Spring. It is hard to believe that the reference is a coincidence, but I think it is more than just a shout out to Dad, too. I mean, whatever it meant in the GG ep, maybe it meant the same thing in the BtVS ep . . . I spent no time trying to figure out why the crime lord would be called The Cheeseman, as that is an odd choice for the writers to make, though the plot twist and resolution was quite cheesy . . . and I always thought this might be part of what the Cheeseman represented in BtVS . . . no matter what the storyline or the character, there was always some cheese (and Buffy like cheese).
Ah, who knows. But the constant references to The Cheeseman got me thinking of BtVS, and then I suddenly remembered that Tom Whedon produced GG, and sometimes wrote or tweaked the scripts.

And is this something we should be asking ourselves in real life, even though we aren't the last man on earth? Assuming there were cars and plenty of gasoline to go around (power still worked and all that), I think I would mix it up. Forage, eat some fruit of the land, grow a garden . . . but I don't think I would hunt. Maybe I would, I have no moral objections to hunting for food, but I don't really know how. Once the meat ran out or went bad at the supermarket, I guess I'd be a vegetarian.
I think I'd go on a road trip that was as endless as resources allowed.
And unlike Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode, I would have a spare pair of glasses, so I would forage at libraries as well for entertainment.

BA-BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ
BABIES!
Well, one anyway: I'm going to be a grandma!
Son and DIL, having bought their condo wasted NO time taking the next step. Since their 3rd anniversary is in April and she is 31 (he's 30) I assumed it might be soonish but still was surprised.
2 of my sister's DILs are also pregnant so big family expansion in 2015!
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if elder daughter followed suit later this year. Her Phd classes will be completed in June. Sure, then there is 2-4 more years of research and dissertation writing but she's 32 and Blaine will be 37 in May.....

Since their sisters will be in town on Friday they are waiting to tell them in person which means I can't tell anyone I am related to or in the "real" world, so to speak.

So you could move from house to house if you wanted. Unlimited stuff in the lumber yards, libraries to get any book you need. Where would you stop? Would you take off for unknown territory or stay put? I think I'd wander, but my baby making days are over, so i would have different priorities. You wouldn't need to stop at stop signs any longer.

I took care of a 5 month old boy - just one night - earlier this week. I am now doing "respite care" for Children Services, which just means that when a child needs short-term placement - like a few days or a few weeks, for whatever reason - then they come to my house. It isn't full fledged foster care placement. It usually means that the foster parent had some family emergency, or a planned vacation, or for some reason, needs to have the kids out of the house temporarily.
I got a seven year old for 5 days a few weeks back, but I went ahead and bought a crib, and specifically asked for babies if possible, because I thought it would be great for the girls. Their birth mom had children very, very young, and they often talk about how babies are so cute, and they want one. Well, the little fella was our first baby. Roxy gagged changing his diaper, and they could not believe how much he could cry when he was cranky. He got tired and cranky and was fighting sleep the way babies do . . . nothing would make him happy except walking him around and and around and around, then rocking him to sleep once he was ready. Roxy said, "Oh my God!! Is it always this way?"
He finally went to sleep around 8:30, only to wake up at midnight and need to be walked around again. Yes, the baby did his job admirably.
And it was such fun for me. He was a cutie pie. This respite thing is very "grandma" like, in that I get to keep them for a short while, then send them home. I don't expect to be a real grandma for many years (please, please, please don't let these girls be teenage moms!), so this is nice for me.

Setting up a Scubie FB page for S'cubies to join. . .? I was thinking in terms of a possible FB page that wouldn't be secret, exactly, but would be closed except by invitation. An awful lot of former S'cubies are already on FB and could be invited to join. Plus, there would be no further costs or annual dues (not that they were ever much of a burden).
