Julia, I agree. Although there have been a few ho-hum episodes (I name no names), Season 5 has been a whole lot more lively and engrossing than Season 4, and there have been a handful of really superb episodes in the first half of the season--more than I'd necessarily expect in a whole season. And with any luck at all, more to come! Absolutely true; having rewatched S.4 pretty much parallel to the development of S.5, I'm finding it vastly more entertaining and engrossing. Julia, a bit distracted by the making of more shopping lists

Julia, a bit distracted by the making of more shopping lists On the whole I found s4 to be unsatisfying. There were some great episodes, but I didn't find them to be very consistent. S5 has been very consistent so far. This has been the strongest season of Angel, imo, since s2. There has also been the added bonus of seeing Spike every week this season. Something that only adds to my viewing pleasure

GAIL I did think that s3 was a good season too. ITA with you on s4. I hated the Jasmine storyline. Cal

Beccaelizabeth, a thoughtful and detailed post. You should sign up for a guest review. Two eps are still unclaimed. Any interest? Something like that involves me trying to predict if my brain will be working at some future date, which is not something I can guess. So unfortunately no. I'll just keep making big long comments. Lindsey was able to clobber Angel, hand to hand, before the sword fight got started, whereas after the crystal was removed, Angel wiped the *floor* with him. I think Lindsey just hit Angel once, taking him by surprise completely because new powers, then the swords came out. So I still don't see the crystal connection.

Lindsey hits Angel once, all right, and sends him sailing to crash on the wall on the other side of the room. He then closes the door behind Cordelia with just a wave of his hand, and morphs his knife into a sword, so, yeah, major mojo, all of which dissappears after Cordelia removes the crystal. Julia, rewatched that scene three times last night to be sure of my perceptions

I'm with Julia & Nan on this. The insertion & removal of the crystal definitely had an affect on Lindsey's strength. Not, of course, that it makes any *sense* that the crystal is the operant factor here, opening more questions than it settles. But it DOES seem to govern Lindsey's superhuman powers. No notion as to WHY.

Julia, who is WAY slower today than on even an average Monday

As well as the mystical abilities. IMO.

I agree that that is the mechanism; seems to me that the big "Whoompah whoompah" machine makes anti-Angel mojo, and the beast inside is just the focus for most of it? Maybe? Julia, undecided whether Lindsey is benefiting from a bug or a design feature ;D

Unless. . .the monster is the source of the mojo, and the crystal is the focussing device?

I have to say that while watching that whole last action sequence I was confused. What was Lindsey referring to when he mentioned Nepal? His magic sword? Or was it his supermoves--and could his loss of superpowers be simply from a loss of confidence after the monster souffle flopped? Didn't Oz go to Nepal to learn special techniques too, or did he just mention monks? How did Cordy suddenly figure out how to stop the machine? Why would a special monster targeted at Angel have lobster claws? Does Angel have lobster fear?
I don't really expect any answers; I suppose it's better to move on so I don't age prematurely.

Well - I have zero answers on this, except I think that Cordy was just sort of pushing buttons and trying anything and when she saw that crystal nestled there, it seemed like a good bet that if she removed it, the gizmo would stop. I agree with your premature aging theory, Sammie - and by the way, welcome to our website, and thanks for the smile your post gave me . . . post often!

Hmmm...didn't Angel go to Nepal after Buffy died in The Gift and get into a big fight with evil monks?
Re: the crystal. A lot of people have said Lindsey removed the crystal from a necklace. Am I in need of new glasses? I could swear I saw Lindsey take his knife and cut the crystal out of the 'guardian's' throat hollow. If so, the crystal itself could have had the mojo powers that both activated the machine and given Lindsey his extra mojo.
