Hmmm...didn't Angel go to Nepal after Buffy died in The Gift and get into a big fight with evil monks? Re: the crystal. A lot of people have said Lindsey removed the crystal from a necklace. Am I in need of new glasses? I could swear I saw Lindsey take his knife and cut the crystal out of the 'guardian's' throat hollow. If so, the crystal itself could have had the mojo powers that both activated the machine and given Lindsey his extra mojo. That seems to be about the consensus here, SpikeNdru. I'm not sure if the crystal was cut out of the "guardian's" neck or merely removed from it--in the manner of a necklace. But either way, it came from him/her/it, was inserted in the machine, and apparently magnified Lindsey's powers; because when it was removed, those powers faded.

Great review, Nan, but you left out my favorite exchange btwn Spike and Angel: "She's evil, you gormless tit." "Did you just call me a tit?"
For some reason, that bit o' nonsense gives me a happy.
Can't wait to see what Spike's going to do now that Lindsay's deception has left him w/o a "destiny." Will biting Cordy lead to visions/powers (or is this another ME McGuffin)? Can't say much about the Fury fury. I haven't read/heard many of his comments, but he was recently (pre-s5) been quoted as saying Spike is a morally ambiguous character. I loved Morally Ambiguous Spike, but I thought those days were over. OTOH, as someone (Spring?) once pointed out, Spike will never fit the traditional definition of good guy.
Fanwankery: maybe Spike's overreaction to the videogame was supposed to come across as frustration?

I'd say this season is the best since Season 3, and can stand with Season 2, and is a BIG improvement over S4, which was just too consistently dark and depressing all over the place...
GAIL am i the only person who thinks that season 5 is a really slow season? yea there has been some good episodes so far, but this season is just missing a lot. one reason for that is because the gang has lost their memories, which is making things on season 5 seem boring, for the fact that a whole season, in wes, fred's, gunn's and lorne's mind, never happened. and why is everyone dissing season 4? i think season 4 is the 2nd best season, while season 3 (or even 2) is the best, in my opinion. the whole jasmine plot line was creative. and there's nothing wrong with season 4 being dark and depressing...those are the episodes of Angel that i'm used to, they define the show and makes the show more interesting.

I don't think that S4 never happened in the minds of the FG. How much they can't remember, we don't know. They can't remember Connor, but they can remember Jasmine and what happened to Cordelia, I think. This season is in a different class to S4 IMO. But I do respect your opinion, Vick. We all just view things in different ways, I guess. Cal

Man I have not been so affected by a single episode of tv since I can't remember when!! I have read at least two emails from grown men in other chat rooms of how weepy they got at the end of this fantastic ep. and I am proud to say I am one of a group. The review of this ep. was right on the money and gave me a little more insight to chew on, and all this after over a week since the airing. Cordy was the glue of the group, and hopefully her passing can at least be softened with still improving writing, but never totally replaced. I can still hold out hope of all hope that she could come back as a higher being, but that hinges on another season or two, and that is a new discussion altogether.
Long live Cordy/Charisma!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I liked season 4, as well. It's just not the general opinion. But, overall, there have been much more powerful episodes this season, IMO. And also - they do remember season 4 - as shown by their conversation with Cordy. The only thing the FG didn't remember was Connor. Which is the main part of S4 that I'm trying to forget, too.

I'm really liking this season as well -- I won't say whether it's as strong as the others because it's just, well, different. The show has changed -- and that's why I am so hoping that it gets picked up for another season. With the death of Cordy, the addition of Spike, and the FG's new home at Wolfram and Hart, the characters need some time to get their bearings (with regards to their mission and to each other) -- just as the original FG did in season 1. At this point, I feel that there are so many more stories to tell about these people -- we really need another season!

Definitely lots of stories to tell about the FG, hopefully Lorne will get some more lines soon...

Ye, although Lorne is now on the opening credits he is just filling a similar role to Tara ... appearances in virtually every episode but with a few lines only.

I think we're all hoping for a 6th season...and beyond. What can I say--we're committed! (Or should be committed, either one.)
An illustration--ham and eggs. The chicken is involved; the pig is committed.

Fanwankery: maybe Spike's overreaction to the videogame was supposed to come across as frustration? LadyDi, agree with you about the frustration. However, my best listening renders that line as "gormless git," for the alliteration. In this British usage, a "tit" is a bird--like a Tom Tit and the other kinds of tit. We know, from when Spike was visited by the Miami Vice team of Wes and Gunn, he pronounces the other kind of tit as "teat." So I don't think he's calling Angel a bird, if you see what I mean. However, in his response, Angel DOES say "tit," and the answer is No, Spike didn't.

Over here in England "tits" is the slang word for the female cleavage area. "tit" is the singular version So when Spike called him a "tit" I must say I did find it hilarious. Especially Angels "did you just call me a tit?" remark ;D Spike - king of the funnies this season.

I cite the innocent (non-"teat" ) use of "tit" in the Tit-Willow song from G & S The Mikado, which is about the right era for at least some of Spike's slang.
