Great review Patti - I too didn't notice the title, and hence missed that theme... Why doesn't JW put the episode titles at the beginning of the show? Thank you Kmi! See my speculation on the subject in a different post... Patti, I enjoyed your review. Especially because you so clearly enjoyed the episode so much. (I really dislike reviewers who seem to think the goal is to point out all the weak spots and stuff they didn't like. My favorite section: **** snip**** Mostly because I hadn't paid any attention at all to the title of the episode, so hadn't given it any thought. That's a great list and very "spot on." Sums things up nicely. Sue Thank you very much Sue! I'm glad I made you think...though the thought that my thoughts were thought making....who'd a thought it? ;D Patti, I luved your review. Very lively and funny. I especially like the focus on damage. This cause me to review a lot of my thinking in that light. Your comments on Andrew...priceless. Like many of us, I grew very fond of Andrew in BtVS. Especially his singing..."I think you luuuuve them." But nothing gets me like him sucking on a juice box. Heeee! Kudos. Yes, Pet, it's actually a little worrisome that Joss can 'play' us as easily as he does...he creates a character, makes him harmless and funny to us...then makes him murder someone we all like....and a year later we're all cheering to see him and we are as proud of his growth as if he were our 'child'. ... Joss is the devil, I tell you! Patti - I really enjoyed your review. ***snip**** I 'Damage' didn't. Like you said - we got to see Angel and Spike actually talk. "Not the end of the damage, but it's a good start." Very good insight! Thanks!!! PS. ***snip*** Someone mentioned that the W&H doctors might have done more to Spike than reattach his hands. I hope Spike's comment was just being said for laughs. Karen, thanks for the kind words - and I TOO hope that Spike's comment was just being said for laughs. I really think it was...I really hope it was...we've got Gunn to worry about, Lindsey to figure out...Eve to smack down...plenty to keep us fretting without that! Thank you, Patti, for your wonderful review. ***snip*** Just a random thought: I noticed that Angel's and Spike's respective methods of getting things done were actually complimentary. If they could have brought themselves to cooperate, combined the research with the instinct, they could have, perhaps, brought things to a slightly less damaging conclusion. I'm glad you liked it Linda! It was fun to write. Ok, not really...but it was satisfying. And yes! What a good point Linda! Angel and Spike's skills and tactics ARE complements - what a team they could be when they actually allow it - maybe we are going to see that - surely we are...and what fun that should be! Patti, a fine, lively review. When you see my review, you'll find you and I caught a lot of the same points. You were more concise, and undoubtedly funnier, in commenting on them. This one was the longest reviews I've done yet. All those crucial quotes to be recognized and saluted! Thank you Nan - it was fun and rewarding to me to see that we really agreed on this episode - I thoroughly enjoyed your review as well - good job, Batman! *I'd sign it Robin, but I don't want to be mistaken for Robin Wood OR a boy wonder....* ;D ******************** And, following in Andrew's footsteps, I'd like to give a Shout-Out to Vlad, who very patiently caught most of my quotation mark errors (I hope) and taught me about Lake Malawi and the Mbuna fish (it's pronounced Mmm....buna, like Mmm....cookies.)

And, following in Andrew's footsteps, I'd like to give a Shout-Out to Vlad, who very patiently caught most of my quotation mark errors (I hope) and taught me about Lake Malawi and the Mbuna fish (it's pronounced Mmm....buna, like Mmm....cookies.) The Bearded One and I had occassion to discuss Spike's trip to Africa, and in that discussion there was some mention of Malawi, as a missionary to that country had come to our church and some of her pictures looked EXACTLY like the village Spike walks through in "Villains"... coincidence? Or great perceptivity on our part? Makes one wonder what Xander is really looking for in Africa! Julia, some of her photos also looked like the rock formations from "Get it Done" but I know those are really in Bronson Canyon, setting for many SF on-planet scenes, from TOS to "Galaxy Quest"

The X-Files played the same 'Find The Hidden Title' Game. The title was always buried in the episode somehow, most often as a repeated word or line of dialog. I've come to the conclusion that JW and Chris Carter (creator of The X-Files) share more than just a few brain cells. There were X-Files references in both BtVS and AtS, and both worlds share a similar blend of pathos (Beyond the Sea), thrills (Squeeze/Tooms), and outright goofiness (Bad Blood).

Patti-- Very nice job! Perhaps you'll do another some time? Thank you ! And yes, I plan to do another if there is an opening. I'm one of the 'regular' guest reiewers, if that makes sense... when my next will be depends on how many other people want to do one. I think Dev has the coveted 100th ep review next week - I'll have to check Nan's thread for the schedule after that.

Thank you Rae - no, you hadn't told me ....and I was waiting for it! *grin* Good thing you did such a good job, Patti- your review got linked to Slayage rather than Nan's, so you've gone national. Julia, actually, you both deserve the coverage, and I Emailed them to say so.

Hey now! Patti always does a good job! ;D As do the rest of the guest reviewers (well, ok, maybe not me)... I suspect Slayage either hasn't gotten to posting Nan's review yet (I'm sure they get lots of submission emails to sort through) or they have a policy of not posting two reviews from the same site. I definitely agree that both reviews deserve the coverage but I would bet the lack of the link to the reviews has nothing to do with whether Slayage thinks they are "deserving".

As I was saying on the main thread, I'm concerned about Slayage lately; the site is nowhere near as timely and authoritative as it once was. Julia, grumpy since they posted a whole lot of links at once, by publication date, some of which were quite old, and which I'm not yet sure I've caught up with

Great Review, Patti. "Gunn has surely been damaged – intellectually, mentally, and perhaps morally he is completely changed. And Gunn is wrong isn't he? Because he says We made it through with all our fingers and souls still attached'. It was fingers this week…is he equally wrong about the souls? " I am also wondering about Gunn. It has probably been played out now, but Gunn persuading Angel not to act made me think of Mother Courage persuading a soldier (?) not to act - I think it is called the Song of Capitulation. It seems apt that this season's AtS with its focus on corporations/capitalism would resemble Brecht's "MOther Courage and her Children". Or maybe it is just me that saw the link? No matter - it was a great review. Stpid me had not really grasped the fact that Gunn was wrong about the fingers and probably wrong about the souls.
Whilst I think of it, you mention how many issues got resolved in this ep. I am not a huge Drew Goddard fan, but I noticed that he consistently tries to resolve issues - get people talking etc. I admit that I am surprised that JW lets him do it. It seems so out of character to have resolution.
