Hey Spring,
Short, Spicy (not so sweet) and to the point.
I think you've definitely hit one of Joss' recurring themes right on the head.
One of the most classic Buffy lines ever written:
"the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. "
But, what, after all are the alternatives: hidden away in small town Texas in one room; in a cave; in a shell?
Yeah, but....judging from poster reaction to this week's ep--how are we gonna live without Fred? And how are "her guys" gonna cope? Especially after the recent, final, death of Cordy. Is this going to pull them together, or apart?
Good job, Spring.

Spring, great job.
Admittedly it doesn't take much right now to make me all emotional, but even when it does, something about the way you write just reaches in and grabs my heart and squeezes.
Trouble is, I can't explain what it is - I can't analyze it. I just know it works.
Thank you for jumping in at the last minute, and giving us something really worth reading.

Well done, Spring! Lovely, insightful review.
A great episode, but so very painful to watch. I loved the Angel and Spike interaction. Wonderful!

I think our caveman-astronauts are going to beat Illyria down, and win Fred back, somehow.

Patti - your positive feeback means a lot to me. Nothing makes a writer feel better than someone saying, "This really works for me." I dashed that review off so quickly and I'm so used too taking my time, and I was worried it would seem to hurried. So good to hear praise from Vlad and Co. And you're welcome. It was my pleasure.

Well done, Spring! Lovely, insightful review. A great episode, but so very painful to watch. I loved the Angel and Spike interaction. Wonderful! Cal I loved the Angel - Spike interaction a lot. Spike was great. And Angel saying out loud that they were both champions - I KNEW he realized that, but wasn't sure he'd ever say it, especially in front of Spike. But there was no more time for games, was there? Our boys did really well. And Spike - I will always love this character, and character arc. It's the best. I would have liked to do more on the Angel/Spike topic really, but having just finished the "No Place Like Home" analysis and wanting to start on the "Family" analysis, I just had to let this one travel light. The Wes/Fred thing was hard for me to get into very deeply because I know those characters so little. It was sad and sweet, but to use Angel's words, I wasn't as "invested" or "attached." Thanks for the feedback, cal!

Great review SpringSummers. Its groovy. Im a Spikester myself and love the Spikification of AtS. The writers are doing an "A" grade job with the Angel and Spike relationship. Spike in fact is proving to be a great ally for Angel....just as he was for Buffy in the past. In many ways (particularly as the reliable friend who is there when u need him) Spike is more and more like the sun around which the planets Angel and Buffy are orbiting. Spike being that relaible friend can be seen in two specific moments in this episode: (a) as the shoulder to cry on......when Angel confides in Spike on the Jet that he doesnt want to loose Fred like he did Cordy; and (b) as the comfort blanket.....when Spike is trying to verbalise the significance of Fred's loss to an obviously emotional Angel on the bridge The above moments also prove to me just how important Spike has become in the Angelverse. In the first moment Cordy's loss is mentioned for the first time on air by Angel.....TO SPIKE.....and not to Wes or Gunn who clealry knew Cordy better than Spike. In the second moment Angel is in pain and teary eyed. If i am not mistaken i have NEVER seen Angel in such an emotional state before on AtS and who is with him when this happpens? SPIKE. One question bugs me...if the relationship is developed so that Spike and Angel truly become "best of friends" would one of them sacrifice his love for Buffy so the other one could experience his love for Buffy? If so, which one would do the sacrifice? Since Spike is the one who is the one more in love with Buffy and the last one to be with her, would Angel give his blessing to his best friend/son/younger brother to go to Europe to find Buffy? Cue Roving Agent Spike....nice Closing note.....if Angel is to come out of his shell...his safe place of brooding....it will be Spike who will be breaking the shell. Why? Because i see a lot of parallels between what Spike did for Buffy and what he is now doing for Angel. I am reminded of the strength Spike gave to Buffy in that motel room (after her friends chose Faith over her) to reassure her of her Hero status which i like to believe led to Buffy eventually regaining her confidence and leading the battle against the First. There is no doubt.....Spike saved Buffy who in turn saved the rest. Spike will do the same for Angel and then the Angel/Sppike team will save the Fang Gang. Spike the Saviour....Spike the Champion. Once again...great review....it made me think P.S. I thank all of you who have welcomed me to this beautiful family of yours

Spring, this review had all of your usual depth and insights -- you explored nuances that would otherwise be unremarkable, and revealed them for the crucial plot points that they really are.
Nice job!

Spring, in reading your review I have come to the following conclusions:
1. You are incapable of delivering a simple review. 2. No matter how short or simple you proclaim it to be you will peel away layers and expose the layers within the layers and then the layers beneath those. 3. The damn thing will have to be reread a time or two and preferably while the episode in question is playing. 4. Anything you write will be full of surprises. 5. You will be spot-on every single time.
This leads me to make a suggestion...
....keep up the good work!
Because, as usual, I loved it.
