And since the first episode was titled "Genesis," we definitely have a Biblical/80s music theme going here. Wonder what that means for the Bible. Or 80s music... Oh, no. Does this mean Stryper's going to save the world? #rofl1#

Speaking of music, Wendy Melvoin's in the credits, but there's no mention of her connection in imdb.
And Greg Grunberg's police officer's first scene is swiped very closely resembles a similar scene in TS, as well as Spike's story to Dawn...
Julia, that said: definitely watching it again

Dude, this announcer guy is distracting as is his lines. So Milo did fall all the way down. So did it really happen or not? Is the politician brother just covering? Or was it a kind of dream? cockroaches again. The smoking gun holster. Nice. Whoa. A comic book with his picture on it. All he has are yen. Hee. Ah, it's the addict/painter/visionary's comic. just static. So Ali's power creates interference? I really like Ali's top. The Origin of Species. First edition. Hmm... the videotape is gone. Did foster daddy take it? She covered up the evidence for herself? And gave herself a car? And an escape plan? Wow. Dude, don't pick up the gun! Now you're fingerprints are on it!! See!!!! His head was sawed off? Agent Weiss! And Clea Duvall! Sylar. Someone else with their skull sawed off. He's got superhearing? Oh, no, he's telepathic. They just now realized that there were messages? And the lizard's gone? Sylar... is the glasses guy? Sylar is patient zero A Zip drive. Ya know, Saresh, this non-professor is making you look bad. I'm not done protecting you from the world Yep, he's got the video. Bad daddy! So, Milo was the favorite, but only politician brother knew about the depression. Everyone's entitled to their secrets. So Milo flew as well. Hiro lost 5 weeks? So then he went back in time to when he left? Everybody has friends, who either accept/support or deny/cover up. Covering up the evidence. Trust.

Speaking of music, Wendy Melvoin's in the credits, but there's no mention of her connection in imdb. I'm certain Wendy (with, as always, Lisa Coleman) composed the score for the pilot. I didn't check the credits to see if they were retained for subsequent episodes.

Rewatching, and in the scene where they're interrogating the cheerleaders about the fire, they show a row of short blondes and ONE girl whose about a head taller than the rest and has tight curly brunette hair. LOL.

LOL. Ha! I wonder how she got into the mix. As well as being able to fly, did you notice that Peter/Milo's drawing shows he is now precognitive as well? I can't remember. Did he come in contact with the artist who draws the future?

*intones in a very hushed, thoughtful, cautionary voice*
If you had a secret, what would you do? If you could save the world, would you commit great sacrifice? Would you tell your secret? Would you be believed? If you had great power would you use it for good, for evil, for beneficence, for greed? Who could you trust? Would you wear tights?
*cough...ahem*
Oh, who knows? I only have one great power and I ain't talkin'. Wild horses couldn't drag it out of me! Let's just let it lie with it involves oil, vigorous motions and it leaves a lot of smiles and moans in it's wake. And no, it's not punning! That requires much less oil.
But our dear S'cubie, Sara, has a great power that everyone can enjoy. Okay, okay two. I mean she is, after all, The Planetary Voice Of Reason. But away from her day job, she also has an alter-ego... by night she becomes... The Reviewer!
Yes, dear S'cubies, we are adding ...
A welcome addition to our regular reviews, this delightful show has become "can't miss TV" for the board and mass audiences everywhere. And who better to review the first episode of this phenomenon than our sometimes caped and occasionally crusading Sara? Yes, dear readers, she will valiantly show you the way!
For your very first installment of the awesome review of this amazing show's premiere, leap on over to the S'cubie website and check in the HEROES: EMERGENCE Fortress of Solitude Bat Cave area. Make sure to thank and comment to this mighty champion, Sara, in the review thread located here. Don't forget your secret decoder rings! Hiro needs your help!

Ah, I like that you delved into the metaphorical interpretations of everyone's superpowers. You came up with some good stuff that I haven't read anywhere else.
Do you mean the NBC announcer's or Saresh's?

Do you mean the NBC announcer's or Saresh's? Oh, thanks! I can't help myself, I keep looking for the metaphors... As for the NBC one, I've been getting them off iTunes, so it doesn't have that. I guess I find Saresh's summing up bits a little too much.

Great job on the review, partner! I especially enjoyed how you fleshed out the ways in which people's powers reflected who they are, like Matt wanting to be on the inside, Niki as the single mom trying to keep different aspects of her life separate, and Isaac and Hiro both focusing on different factes of the future. I also liked what you had to say about Peter's family and how both Nathan and their mom are trying to stay grounded, while Peter wants to start spreading his wings. Sigh. Of course, now this means I have to start working on the review for episode 3...

As for Saresh, yeah, but his voice is one that I could probably enjoy listening to him reading the phone book. What he's saying probably doesn't make a lot of sense, but I can't say I've paid much attention to the content.

Erin!! Great review!
I love how you paired the characters to discuss. I loved your musings on past and future, looking forward and back.
Really liked how you compared Hiro and Isaac.
Nice catch on spotting that Nathan has been encouraged to "fly" in his professional life, somewhat at the expense of his brother and thus he is also the first to really fly.
I also liked the points you make about Niki's split seeming to relate to how she has been emotionally splitting herself into mom and stripper, etc. I notice other folks have been discussing this idea too as we move further into the series. It's an intriguing notion and it makes me even more eager to see where they are going with her story.
Other cool parallels you pointed out that I had missed: Hiro's arrest at the end of the previous ep and Matt's at the end of this ep and Matt's mind reading and his appointment with a therapist. Neat!
Also, eetah on the Hiroworship love! He's definitely my favorite character. His joy and sense of purpose, his dorky cuteness and the smokin' hotness of future!Hiro, he's just fab!

Some of them feel like they were a bit of a stretch, and, as for Peter, I'm not sure what the heck is really going on with him; is flying his power? Still, it was fun to write and I'm really enjoying sharing review duties with you! Keeps me on my toes!
