A fine and insightful review, Sara. You picked out both the weaknesses and strengths in the episode, with style (I love the way you write). I'm trying to look at this one as a transitional episode, setting up stuff for later. I hope so, because if it isn't, I'm going to be very disappointed in this season. Thank you.

Sara! Very nice job and I appreciate you not taking the road of only pointing out the weaknesses. It's a harder thing to do in a review, but well worth it! Lots of agreement on the theme of family and identity. Or perhaps family identity, eh? Fits the title and the running themes we've already seen. Some of my favorite bits from your review. and Very well made point about Niki! I hadn't thought of it like that, but you are very right! I am with you on not seeing the plausibility of the Claire and West mack-fest (unless you go down a rather shaky and slightly icky road of transferred hero worship of uncle Peter and/or daddy Nathan). But I found Kensei's transference more believable. If only because of the look on his face when he returned - he looked like a person who'd had a life-changing moment. I think the combination of really understanding the potential of his power and finding himself actually being a hero accounts for a change. Also, what do you want to bet he didn't actually have to fight all 90. After the first few times he healed/didn't die/came back from apparant death, I'll bet the ronin were discombobulated and off their game. Heck, I could see some of them leaving because they saw this as some kind of sign that he wasn't to be defeated, that he was protected, etc. Again, thanks for the exellent job on making me think more, Sara. Now, I go forth to be heroic!

Part IV So now the duo becomes a trio. Hiro is Kensei's conscience.Hiro can't leave the time period when he tries. Does that mean that he still has unfinished business in the 1600s? Sylar's lost his stolen powers. Sylar kills Candace. Like in Five Years Gone. Oh! Oh! Hiro is Kensei's conscience the way Ando was Hiro's! Maybe? I thought Hiro stayed because he chose to, not because he couldn't. Liz & Anne - very cool thought - I like that idea! It fits the theme of flipping roles and so forth from the first season, too.

Finally catching up, a bit.
Terribly disappointed in Sylar still being alive. This better go someplace interesting, 'cause right now it smacks of lack of creativity.
So far, no good, though. Back to his brain-eating ways already, I see.
ETA: Also? Sylar with illusion/shapeshifty abilities? Meh.
