Following a link to another link, yada yada, I came upon this journal: jamalov29.livejournal.com/On Tuesday she started a "game" of copying an excerpt from a well known piece of Spuffy fanfic and inviting readers to identify it. Today is her second entry. I'm putting it here because it looks like a potentially good place/way to find classic Spuffy fanfic recommendations, although I'm not seeing direct links so you'd have to go hunt for the stories. But since we've been rec'ing some classics it seemed appropriate.

Today I'm reading Unbridled Brunette's Forward to Time Past and I have to say I'm fascinated with the development of William into Spike. I thought it was absolutely fluffy at the beginning and never saw the middle section coming. William was so sweet but his transformation into a brutal killer is quite convincing. And to think I nearly stopped reading this one!
(I do think Buffy's just a bit too bubble-head California girl in the first section, but then again I think the story is set when she was still pretty young.)

I posted this in the main thread and then thought I should put it here as well. Wow. Read Somniloquy by Gwyneth Rhys last night. I think it's my favorite of hers so far. She really spins a seductive web. And her Spike is very believable, still sort of relishing his wickedness even as he's trying to navigate a way forward out of it. A wonderful scene between Spike and Xander shooting pool at the Bronze: The really good fanfic just makes you long to hear JM saying the words.

Have any of you read Verity Watson's fanfic, the William Pratt series? What did you think of it? Is it very angsty? I just recently read most of Dreamweaver's stories and really enjoyed them, although I guess they're pretty fluffy. I just thought they were written so well that they were convincingly fluffy. Perhaps my favorite was In a Different Light - Spike and Buffy end up reluctant allies in a whole different world. Dreamweaver is really pretty good at creating a whole different culture. If you're Spuffy at heart you might enjoy her(?) stories. Sex scenes are plenty rooty tooty, too! And boy, do I get the idea that Dreamweaver does not like Xander. I think it's actually entertaining to figure out which characters are loved by an author and which are not so loved. Link for In a Different Light: www.bloodshedverse.com/stories.php?go=chapters&no=10012I also really liked Nimbus by Alia, even though it's set in Season 4 and seems a bit early for Spike's reformation. Still it's really good. And there's a scene in a bus station of all places that will require a cold shower if you have a pulse. Link for Nimbus: www.bloodshedverse.com/stories.php?go=chapters&no=7307I'm going to cross post this in the main thread.

The unlabled fanfic thread is BtVS and Angel, by the way; there was only Buffy and Angel stuff on the site until... after Angel was cancelled, I guess, or just before? People do came here from off-site to find recs, and I suppose we should maybe change the labelling on that thread, to make it clear. But that, rather than the main chat thread is the best place for recs, so people can find them when they come here to look. Julia, and YAY! for new recs!
