Sentinel fic writers got sort of the ultimate Jossing, when the show was picked up after the end of Season three as an eight-episode midseason replacement wrap-up. There's a class of fics, then, which branch out at the final episode of s3, Sentinal Too, when the evil sentinel, Alex Barnes, drowns Blair in a fountain on the Rainier University campus. There's also a very rare and wonderful class of TS fic that takes full advantage of the police procedural form. Tribal Sentinel by Annabelle Leigh combines these two forms to good effect. It starts with Jim feeling unexpected compassion for an escaped mental patient trapped on a roof, and goes on to tie up the loose ends of SenToo while dealing with Blair's post traumatic depression and their alienation after Jim evicts Blair from the loft. R-ish, maybe PG-13, and not utterly perfect, but a good tale, full of action, and with less weepy-Blair, growly-Jim cliches than is typical of the genre. Julia, who read a weepy Blair story the other night which made me want to pinch the author's head off

So, after bitching on Part 736 again about a really dreadful fic, I stumbled across a really good one I'd read before, from 2001 and therefore possibly on Anna S's fic recs list. "Writing on the Wall" is a post TSby BS first-time story, which explores just what Blair gave up in his press conference, and why, and in the end lets him get his shaman on and come up with some answers about What it All Means. The author, Justine, says it's NC-17, but by my standards it's R, and not even particularly hard R (no descriptions of genitalia and their motion). Julia, and now I will try to post this without face-planting

I can't understand why I haven't recommended these two fics yet; I loved them the first time I read them. Kalideiscope and Kaleidiscope 2: Lone Wolf deal with Detective Sandburg having a brain injury that leads to a tricky set of symptoms; every time he goes to sleep he awakens a different Blair. These stories are police procedurals, and have aspects of both medical hurt/comfort and shamanism, and all the regular cast has a good look-in, including Naomi. There is some NC-17 level writing, but it's far from the primary point here, which is the strength of Jim and Blair's partnership and the way they work together through thick and thin. The author is T.W. Lewis, who has an assortment of very good fics at 852 Prospect. Julia, long day here.

Jane Davitt is writing TS fic. Short, and a theme which has been explored before, but still: Jane Davitt is writing TS fic. It can only get better. janedavitt.livejournal.com/551639.htmlJulia, because for MONTHS she's been writing SG-1 and I can't do it, dammit

Because I've been re-reading Jane D. S/X fic lately . . . . And I can do SG1 - but not all that interested in SGA. So I'm bummed by the number of writers heading into that fandom.

Jane Davitt has been writing a lot of SG-1, mostly Jack/Daniel but with other pairings, for the past... six months, maybe? I haven't checked her archive, but she's got a bunch of stories on her lj. I like her writing a lot, although my favorite stories of hers are Spike/Giles and the Xander/Giles things she wrote with Wesley's girl. Julia, have to admit I've fallen into the McShep trap, but that's because the people on my flist who write it are some of the best writers: Yin, Ladycat, and so on.

A 2005 story from The Princess of Geekland, "Staying Present" is far removed from the Fluterbev story of the same name, which is an angst fest supreme. The Princess takes an early-onset fuckbuddy relationship, and shows how TSbyBS changes everything: www.852prospect.org/archive/archive/24/stayingpresent.htmlJulia, with Persian love poetry, too

Legion, again; some of her stories- the Ds stuff, and the Chief series- I cannot do at all, but of her other work there's several stories I love beyond reason, and they are a wildly diverse group, exploring many genres. Denatured is a post TSbyBS bad outcome story; things go to hell because of the media and bad cops, Blair takes off, and that's just the first Very Bad Thing; a year later, their paths cross again, and things change. NC-17, but mostly plotful and interesting because of the way Jim's senses come into play, as well as Blair's people skills. Julia, and unlike anything else I've read, always a good thing.

Spoken in Silence Jane Davitt, SG1/TS crossover, O'Neil/Ellison. It becomes obvious that Jane Davitt is one of those people I will follow almost anywhere, although I haven't quite gotten to her Jack/Daniel stuff. Julia, because really? SG-1 just doesn't do anything for me

Jane Davitt "wanted to write Simon for once" and so we have a near-perfect small glimpse of Simon, and Blair on the outsider side of the thin blue line Looking In. Julia, also, she's very good about loading her fics on her archive, including the last round of Sentinel and TS/SG-1 fics

I love Lit Gal's TS fics, no doubt about it. "Good Cop, Bad Cop" was written for this year's Moonridge Auction* and is post TsbyBS, Detective Sandberg questioning a kidnapping suspect who doesn't quite have the roles straight in the Sandburg/Ellison partnership. PG, Gen: mymongoose.populli.net/mfot/lit.htmJulia *Moonridge is a zoo/wildlife rehab program which is Garett Maggart's favorite charity. A benefit/con there every year is one of the things that keeps the fandom alive seven years after the last episode was first broadcast. Stories by fandom authors are auctioned off and the recipients have a month's exclusive reading privilege before they're released to the fandom in general.

First of all, anything by Betty Plotnick is worth reading. But Blow Pop is something special, for those who feel the need of a post SenToo part 2 scene that recognizes the general fucked-up-ness of the situation, and gives a nod to the slashiness inherent in the series. This is R, barely; I'd say PG-13, myself, since I do not like giving slash fics bonus ratings points just for being slashy. And as sweet as a sack of random hard candy. Julia, a 2002 fic, it is beyond the Anna S. rec barrier, I believe
