Rageprufrock has written an extension to the Eureka/SGA crossover "Summer Place." Just as funny, and Rodney is so whipped. Shore Leave, PG, warnings for Longhorns football. Julia, my father-in-law went to UT

SGA Santa, "Late Feet" and the expedition is over, although Rodney may never finish unpacking. M/S, PG, barely, and household accidents do happen: community.livejournal.com/sga_santa/74467.htmlJulia, this is a giggle, and the use of humor is very familiar.

This is my new favoritest opening line ever. It beats out "Once upon a time there was a Martian named Smith." At least to me. "Okay, whoops," John said, just after Rodney turned into a dolphin. Shortish McShep story by Speranza called The Wheel, Atlantis, Wars And So OnStory doesn't shatter the planet, but it's funny, cute, and nicely weird. HEE! I'd missed that, somehow. In the author's notes, Speranza mentions that, after having written incest, people thinks she has no standards any more. She's referring to Last Testament, an NC-17-ish, comedy/adventure/romance McShep. I am almost always grossed out by the mere idea of incest stories- I was the only one in my social group who never read the V.C. Andrews Flowers in the Attic series, for instance. However, this story has a lot of escape valves for the squick. First, and most importantly, the genetic relationship is one that neither has known of: they not only do not know they're brothers, they don't know they have a brother. The reasons they've been raised apart, the influence of their parents on both their lives, and the contrary influences of the parent who raises them is part of the fun, and a big, big part of the story. The other thing is that they begin to have sex before they know they're brothers, and neither of them deals with the new knowledge comfortably: at one point, Rodney almost choses to be abandoned, at night, in the middle of nowhere, Utah, because he's so discomforted by it. It's a great story, really, and well worth a read. Julia, Speranza is also a writer in several other fandoms, including The Sentinel "We could do a DNA test," Rodney abruptly volunteered, and everyone stared at him. "I mean, it's moron biology, I could probably do it in my basement." John slowly sat down again: this was clearly a new thought. "Right. Yeah. We could get some DNA from the General's hair or fingernails--or we could do a sibling test. If it's close enough, then General McKay was my father." Right, Rodney thought glumly. And Jean's your sister and I'm your brother and we're going to hell.

And, another Eureka/SGA crossover from Rageprufrock, same story world as the others: "Sabbatical;" Rodney's a bit banged up, and John feels responsible; Jack finds things even weirder than usual: rageprufrock.livejournal.com/293886.htmlJulia, and Zoe finally gets to know Rodney

Whoa. I'd read another piece of Synodochic's that was part of the Atlantis Musical, but tonight I've read one of the best pieces of fan fiction ever, right up there with Anna S' best. Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose is a post-series fic, where Rodney, grieving and angry, takes a job teaching physics in a podunk University; the only relationships it really explores are his relationship with his students, and with his memories. How what he learned in the Pegasus galaxy shape his teaching life, why he begins to publish, and why he resists pleas to go back to the SGC are all fascinating and deeply affecting. Great stuff; do read! Julia, wonderful writing, too

Sophonisba is a new writer to me (many of the other people I've recommended here are writers I know from The Sentinel or Jossverse fics) but I believe, after reading "The Laws of Arthur C. Clark and their corollaries", which is gen, and barely PG, I believe I need to run off and find what else she's written. community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/469549.html#cutid1Julia,

Tesserae_ is on my flist as much for our shared love of Craftsman style buildings and architectural salvage as for our shared taste in fic, but she is, beyond a doubt, a dandy writer. "Azimuth (means the direction you fly)" PG or a very virtuous R, is a moment in Colorado Springs where John Sheppard and Cameron Mitchell have something going until...: users.livejournal.com/tesserae_/160688.htmlJulia, although I guarantee you will be left wishing for salty crunchy french fries!

I had to check to see if I'd recommended this fic before, since I know I read it in one of my earlier SGA binges; I've admired Resonant's writing in TS for quite a while, and she brings a strength of characterization and complexity of plottting to her stories which is much appreciated in the SGA-verse. Terms of Service finds Rodney and John in trouble on a planet with a lot going for it- medicine, technology, pretty women... and sold into a period of servitude to preserve their chance to acquire needed knowledge and products. The great difference between their buyers, and how the strengths of each man go into getting them out of their predicament (well, really only one of them has a predicament; the other just has a chance to use his skills in a different context, and eat new food) are explored with careful attention to telling detail, and the personalities of all involved are put to good use in the story-building. It's a long-ish story, with both slash and het, but Res Adult rating is perhaps a little strict compared to the average run of NC-17; I'd call it R, myself. Julia, and damned enjoyable, in the end

See, thing is, somebody at McKay Sheppard made a recs post, and I was sitting here with my toes feeling as if they'd been dipped in liquid nitrogen, and the air in my bedroom was seriously too cold to breathe without pain, and so I decided to turn on the heat a bit and read a fic, and I chose Rageprufrock's Bell Curve, or Ladies' Night at the Boom Boom Boom and I was tempted, several times, to post quotes of funny passages but I didn't want to interrupt myself and anyway, it was hard to get quotes of less than 200 words or so, because these aren't just quips. R, probably. An astrophysicist follows his ex-girlfriend into a bar... Julia, and things begin to get complicated almost at once, because Rodney McKay just has that kind of luck Here's the recs post which is important because there are currently two sequals to this fic, both funny, although not as mind-blowingly hilarious as the first.

Also from the recs list mentioned above, and read, but not written up because there was a whole lot of family stuff going on, Asolat's Trancendental wherein Elizabeth is out of commission, Rodney's in charge, and the diplomatic strategy of the Lantean's starts to resemble, say, World of Warcraft. Great plotting, lots of fun stuff- hell, there's even a funny histogram- and enough M/S messing around to earn a solid hard-R rating. Also a lot of science and adventure stuff, a still built by a crazy Russian, and a s1 rank-and-cast environment. Asolat is as dandy writer, who also works in The Sentinel, BtVS/AtS, and maybe a dozen or so other fandoms. She doesn't mess around rewriting the same lame PWP with different people, either, and for that she has my greatest admiration. Julia, wanting long meaty stories with adventure and suspense these days, picky me.

THIS FIC CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR EPISODES NOT YET AIRED IN THE USGot that? "John Sheppard doesn't really need anyone. It's a thing." Like This by Aria shows the ways in which that statement shapes Sheppard's behavior on Atlantis, and how it comes to be... less than true. M/S, Pg-13. And see that big red warning up above? Heed it. JUlia, Thank you for your self-control.

Lenore is a writer I haven't been paying sufficient attention to, for reasons which say much about my limitations as a reader: she's got an excessively cutesy name, and I thought she was another writer who I'd not liked in the past. So, today she had pt. 1 of a WIP up at the lj community mckay_sheppard and I had a little time on my hands, so I was reading through her list and came upon The Boys of Summer, R, although possibly NC-17 for substituting the Yankees for the Dodgers in the book of the same name. Baseball as pure mathematics, and baseball metaphors as truth serum. I'm going to see if I can get to the rest of the online Zine in which this story appears to see what else might be hiding there. Julia, the SGA fandom is full of people who look like other people.

Sheafrotherdom's name refers to the rivers which run through her British town; why, then she can write so knowledgably of A Farm in Iowa I can't say. That link goes to the tags for the whole series; the first story tells how John inherits his grandfather's farm just as his Air Force career hits the wall, and Rodney shows up as the result of a series of random events. It's AU at the start, although only a bit so, and growing less so with every installment. John is very much his canon self, and Rodney is, if anything, a it more hyper, annoying, and phobic, especially when his life is complicated by the results of some convenient hetrosexual activity early in the series of events. Each story links to the next, as well as being listed in reverse chronological order in tags, so keep an eye on the clock, as this is up to several hundred thousand words at this juncture. The story is as convincing and involving as Shadowlass's S/X post NFA fics, which is rare praise indeed. McShep, to NC-17 at very rare intervals, and populated wit canon characters in canon roles and AU roles as well as a plethora of country neighbors. Julia, a nice way to spend some time, and updated frequently, including today

I though "Freedom's Just Another Word..." was perfect and complete; so did Syneodochic, who wrote it, but other's wanted an afterward, and there's this "time stamp" meme going around, and people asked her for ten years after. So, And the Band Played Hail to the Chief brings us to another place in that storyline, with paranoia and optimism carefully balanced. Julia, wonderful writer, she is
