I think a stable thread for recommended links would be valuable, so here are a few for seed.
The Buffyverse Encyclopedia www.slayage.tv/EBS/
The Hellmouth This site specializes in pics and some identification discussion of the various BADS in BtVS. It has pics of Mr. Trick, and the Master, and the Master's minion, Luke, and pretty nearly all the rest. This is a real resource. groups.msn.com/Hellmouth/
The Buffy Dialogue Database vrya.net/bdb/index.php
BuffyGuide Excellent episode guide slowly being updated into Season 7 with a mix of commentary, analysis, dialogue quips and thuds, cast and director list (with character names), explanations of references in an ep, continuity items, and much else ON EACH EPISODE. PLUS about the best database of links going. Invaluable. www.buffyguide.com/
A site dedicated exclusively to the analysis and naming of Spike head tilts. Really! www.headtilt.com/headtilt.htm
Buffy transcripts www.buffyworld.com/
Angel transcripts www.buffyworld.com/ NOTE: Good as of 9/4/03
ALSO BtVS/AtS transcripts at: www.buffy-vs-angel.com/guide.shtml NOTE: Good as of 11/30/03
Angel episode guide www.trinityofiniquity.com/screening/screeningrm.htm
Screencaps For Buffy screencaps from Season 4 on: www.cappiness.net/
For Angel screencaps from Season 5 only: www.cappiness.net/
Guide to British Slang www.peevish.co.uk/slang/a.htm
I'll add to these later and invite others to chip in with sites they've found useful (as opposed to fanfic sites).

This is a link to the clip from "In the Dark" where Spike, on a roof, gives fantasy narration to the scene he observes with Angel, down on the street. It plays on Quicktime Media Player and probably others (don't know, haven't tried). www.romance-on-btvs.com/index2.html

I wish more people would post their favorite links (of any type--fanfic, galleries, resourses, quotes, etc. here. I'd use it a lot. Anyway, I think someone made reference to this link somewhere in the main conversation thread, but since I just went there I decided to list it here to spotlight it. www.spikeonangel.com/EDIT by Riff: I received a "You are not authorized to view this page" message in both IE and Netscape. It may no longer be active. If you click on "primary site" on the menu on the left you get the updated intro complete with JM in the opening credits. WARNING--it you are a pure pure pure anti-spoilerist you may not want to see the intro, but if you watch the first ep from the very beginning you are going to see it then so, what the heck. (Intro shows all "main" characters in show.)

An indepth site all about The Oreder of Aurelius: www.slayage.tv/EBS/buffyverse/aurelius.htmIt gives specific references to at least 4 episodes where it has been talked about, and goes on to explain a bit about it. Very informative.

More Than Spike is a group I stumbled into through slayage.com when I linked to a comprehensive transcript of JM's first Dragon Con Q&A (see Articles & Interviews thread). I have not reviewed their board fully but I like what I've seen so far. According to their board statistics they have 877 members. Their board is strictly moderated and they have a number of rules concerning posting guidelines. I didn't see a link to or mention of any associated website. But they have a number of threads I found very interesting; e.g., the aforementioned transcript, Dragon Con reports by various members sharing their experiences, impressions, and encounters with James, a thread compiling suggested questions for James that haven't already been asked and answered over and over and if the suggested question had in fact been previously answered, a transcript of that answer (the person compiling the list has an Excel spreadsheet of previously asked questions and answers from previous Q&As, articles and interviews), what gifts fans have given to James at conventions and acceptable fan behavior. The discussion is thoughtful and intelligent such as our members would appreciate. Take a look for some good supplemental reading and information beyond our own group: forums.morethanspike.com/index.php?s=684e310cd2f9e18fbb3d00d175420768

I went and looked at the virtual Watchers' Council site, where they're planning a whole season of episodes presented online. It looks like FUN. Something new to do on Tuesdays.

Downloading and playing video clips
You need a player, and you need the appropriate "codec" to play videos. Videos are designed to call up and run particular players, just as Word documents call up Word, Excel spreadsheets call up Excel, and so forth. There are two major kinds: .wmv and .avi. The .wmv's mostly want Windows Media Player, and that's what they'll call up. An .avi will want the Real One Player and will look for that. Some Windows Media Players will play .avi's too, if you've downloaded and installed the appropriate codec to translate the format.
Windows Media Player is free and normally comes with Windows. If you don't have it, you can download it free at www.ms.com
If the video file is an .avi, you need a DIVX codec--the higher numbered, the better. Current numbers, as of September 2003, are in the 5's.
Downloading the DIVX codec You can get both a player and the DIVX 5.1 codec at www.divx.com. It's an extremely user-friendly site and easy to get around.
However, if you want to get the codec alone, here's a site in Italy where you can download the DIVX bundle codec without a separate player. It seems to download in seconds and apparently installs itself invisibly--after the download, nothing else happened, but when I went and downloaded a video, it played with sound AND video.
The URL that worked for me, chosen from a list provided by AskJeves, is:
www.xdownload.it/subcat.asp?idc=2&idsc=18
Choose the appropriate video codec and download it. The one I downloaded was DIVX Pro v5.05a bundle. Downloading the free Real One Player If you need RealPlayer to play the clip, you can download it (the free one) at www.real.com or (better) www.realnetworks.com/products/free_trial.html?src=091803realhome_2_3_2 for the FREE Real One Player (they don't put the free version on the front page). Playing and saving the video Longer videos are typically zipped. They therefore bring up WinZip and download into it. They unzip in the process of being played. Or you can "extract" the files of which the zip is composed and play them directly on the player, without WinZip. But if it's a zipfile, it will download into WinZip first.
(Like the Windows Media Player, WinZip normally comes with Windows, but you can download it free at www.ms.com if you need to.) When the filename of the video shows up in WinZip, click once on it to select it, go to WinZip FILES menu and save (copy) it to your hard drive, if you want to keep it, then click twice rapidly on the video's filename (in WinZip) and the video will call up the Real One Player (or the Windows Media Player, if it was designed for that) and play itself.
If it's unzipped, and if it calls up the Windows Media Player directly to play itself without the intervening stage in WinZip, choose "copy media" (i.e., the video) to put it on your hard drive.
The DivX website at www.divx.com/ has a free player that worked great for me when nothing else would.

Also link recommended by Erin for transcripts and quotes: firefly.shriftweb.org/transcripts.shtmlFellow Firefly Affeccionados « Reply #32 from Vlad on: Today at 07:15am » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have found the most wonderful site. All of the episodes of Firefly in Real Media format awaiting your download. I have cable internet and it took me only 13 minutes on average to download an episode (I was able to download about 3 eps to watching one) All of the regular episodes were of excellent clarity and sound. They also have the "original pilot" (the one that was refused by the network, not the re-edited version shown at the end of the series) and it is in "decent watchable" condition. They have the two episodes never seen in the US: "Trash" (I love it!) and "The Message" (saving it for my DVD treat). But the thing for true fans... they have the blooper reel divided into 4 sections for your pure entertainment. Amuse yourself with the "giesha in the window" song, hear your favorite castmembers blow their lines and marvel at the potty mouths, and for the ladies... watch captain tightpants drop the "tightpants." I highly recommend this site. I, of course, fully intend to purchase the Firefly DVD coming out in Dec., but this is a great way for those of you that have never seen the series to find out what has me and several of your fellow S'cubies all jazzed up. You might even wanna buy the DVD for yourself. So come see Caleb and Jasmine when they were the good guys....well, at least when they weren't "evil" *L* cause we all know that there were no "good guys" in Firefly. Anyone interested in learning the URL to this site, please IM me and I will share it with you. And please, once you have it, don't share the site with others in public. Even tho' I managed to get it all downloaded, I would hate to see it shut down. Don't have Real One Player? then go here: www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk (Don't use the link to Real One Player offered at the top of the Firefly Episode download page. It makes you register your download.)

Vlad posted this in the main thread and is now off-line, so I'm taking the liberty of reposting it here where it won't get (as) lost. Reeta(and all others interested), I found transcripts at Buffy VS. Angel. They appear to be updated all the way to Season 5 Episode 4 and have the next two episodes penciled in awaiting transcript. I clicked on the S5E1 transcript and it looks very thorough. The URL is: www.buffy-vs-angel.com/guide_ang.shtmlI hope this is what you wanted. Vlad, TA, tp
