Thank you. This is extremely moving and touching. And just speaks exactly to who Patti was. She would be quite thrilled to know that her writings communicated to you. It was not presumptous in the least---it was lovely. Thank you. Sue Let me add my thanks to that. It was wonderful and comforting.

I am quite new to the site, and honestly am mostly just a lurker. All the same, I want to convey my deepest condolences to you all for the loss of such an obviously important friend. I don't mean to be presumptious and belittle the connections you may have with Patti by claiming how well I knew her. I never, in fact, met or chatted with her. However, I think there is something to be said for the relationship that exists between writer and reader. After learning the news of her passing, I've been reading many of the articles, essays, and stories she has posted. I believe that writing in many ways expresses the nature of the authors soul, and what I have seen in Patti's writing is a disarming warmth and a touching affection for the material. I am assured of her inner-beauty. Furthermore, I am in reverence of the people on this site. Their ability to see and embrace this beauty shows me that this is a place like none other. As is the subject of many a Jossverse show, the S'cubies seem to have become a created family and I am moved. Again, it was not my intention to be too assuming or pretensious in the midst of your grief, I only mean to give the perspective of someone outside this family, looking in with awe. Just expressing my sympathies as a fierce Patti-fan, I guess. What a beautifully expressed sentiment! I, too, am relatively new here, and cannot speak of having known Patti well, but her warmth and beauty of spirit came through every post she made. There was nothing pretentious or presumptuous about your post, at all. Welcome to S3.

Karen - I had the same thoughts you did about writing JM. Spring - the flowers are beautiful, I would love to contribute. Has anyone contacted or heard from Alexandra? Hi Matthew, think of you lots. Hi, Sandy! I think of you quite often, too: that was one of the more fun 1400 mile road trips I've had in my life.

Just a thought.
I know that there's been some discussion of donations in Patti's memory. I went to the American Diabetes Association website (www.diabetes.org) and discovered that they are making a particular plea for donations in May, because donations received this month are going to be matched by Rite-Aid Corp.:
www.diabetes.org/support-the-cause/make-a-donation.jsp?WTLPromo=HEADER_donate&vms=168685577930
As I now work for a charity, I can tell you that it's extremely important for charitable organizations to make the most of these matching opportunities. So, for those of you who think that you may want to do this in Patti's memory, this is the month to do it.

Thank you for your touching words. The fact that you see us, as a community, as we feel we are is as touching as your kind words about Patti. And you, by your actions, are a part of that community, now.

I plan to send any extra dollars from the flower contributions to the American Diabetes Association, from the S3, in Patti's' memory. Once I think I've gotten everything, and figured it all out, I'll post an accounting of it, with how much went to the ADA. It will probably be toward the last half of the month, as I expect things to trickle in. BUT, with May as "matching month," I will definitely be making the donation in May. Thanks to all who have contributed in any way to all the efforts for Patti.

I'll second and third and fourth what everyone else has said: it doesn't matter how long you've been here if Patti touched your life.
I've really been struggling this week with doing the RL things I've had to do and thinking about Patti. My brother-in-law died of AIDS several years ago and I've been listening to a song by Patty Loveless that comforted me then and it's helping a little bit now.
When I reach the place I'm going I will surely know my way And I will turn and look inside me And bid farewell to one more day
Every light begins with darkness Every flower was once a seed And with the sun and wind to test us We are bound to be released
I will fly beyond this valley I will open up the gate And when I reach the place I'm going I will surely know my way
We have hands to hold our sorrow We have tears to heal the pain Although your eyes ask many questions On your lips, I hear my name
I was born without a whisper I was born beneath the rain But when I reach the place I'm going I will surely know my way
I will surely know my way.

Absolutely. Email them to me and I'll print them out for the family. I've already downloaded and printed a number of pictures of her from S'cubiefest I and last year's Slayerfest and made them into a collage. I also printed an 8x10 of the picture at the top of this section and I've burred the edges a little. I also printed out a copy of her portrait with James. I'm picking up frames this afternoon. That's just perfect, Diane! What a wonderful thing for them to have! You are truly on the front lines and your thoughtfulness and consideration is greatly appreciated.

Patti's writing (and editing, beta-ing for others) is such a big part of what she gave to all of us. It's an amazing legacy.

I'd also be happy to help in this regard, if I can. I've IMed with Diane and Sue and Vlad (who of course hasn't answered yet) about this. Assuming Vlad in okay with my offer, I'd love to throw my first pass your way and get lots of input from you. It would be a good thing to work on this together. And I can print the final on my color laser and send them out.

I was just thinking about how everyone's been coming together to remember Patti.
I don't know why I thought of this, but has anyone contacted Rusty Goode?
I don't think she'd know me well enough - does one of the other Founders want to email her?

I'll be happy to email her asuming the address on her profile is still correct, unless some else knows her better.
