I so much like this version. Don't you just love Spring? When you get all down and out, she turns everything and justifies it just like you want it to be. Actually, this just sort of blossomed in my head a couple of days ago. It came about partly as a result of "discussions" w/Spring or reading her posts and from a conversation I'd had the day before w/my friend Meghan (who hates Buffy). I IM'd Spring w/it before putting it on the main board, to get her impression of it. I used some of the same quotes and others as well. She thought I was maybe a tad optimistic as to how much Buffy loved Spike, but overall she said she found it "interesting" and agreed w/most of it.

Spring, makd, the rest of you, wow, what good analysis. I'm not sure I agree with any of you on all points, but great discussion. I love this board!
OK, theory here - I don't think Buffy has outgrown her love for Angel just yet, but I think she will now. Up to this point, she's had no time to grow up emotionally; she's been too busy fighting the good fight. Now she's free. I think that after some time to rest, mourn Spike, and Anya, show Dawn the world, think about things a bit, she'll come back to the slaying - that's part of who and what she is, and she'll never really give it up.
I also think that Buffy will move on from Angel, now that she has time to think about her life, now that she actually has a life again. She's not the only Slayer anymore, she's not fighting alone (and even with the Scoobies, she always ended up alone), and she can spread her wings. Her life is open to her again, she's bright, she's going to bounce back, and she will grow.

If there were to be a movie that followed BtVS, I hope we'd see an older, wiser Buffy, who's learned to love herself. I'd hope we'd see an autonomous young woman who's really a hero in every way, so doesn't need a man to help her identify who she is. And if there IS a man? That's okay, too.

Gals, I hate to interrupt this great discussion but we're pushing 500 posts and YOU KNOW WHO always rears his *cough*ugly*cough* head whenever we try to go over his limits So, if you'd continue this over on Part 69, I'd be eternally grateful! See you there. And, we're locking down.
