About Legions of Gorath
This fiction is AR. It takes place in another dimension, transporting Spike and Buffy out of Sunnydale and putting them in an entirely different environment. It isn’t a rewriting of events that have already happened. It doesn’t fill in the gaps. It doesn’t continue the story. It’s fantasy, based on an unexpected piece of Spike’s history and set in a world of demons, vampires, wizards and other unexpected creatures. It’s not heavy on romance, but it is heavy on tension, angst, guilt, secrets and of course the fight to prevent (yet another) apocalypse. If that seems too heavy, it also has some humor, and plenty of opportunities for the characters to rant, vent, snipe, sulk, compete and come to each other’s rescue.
In retrospect, I would have given it another title, but oh,well.

Wow. Magically enhanced fighting chickens! That's fascinating. I particularly liked Buffy's celebratory dance after kicking the chicken's head, and Spike's tantrum against the two women, who almost unwittingly are beginning to develop a rivalry over the attentions of General William.
At least it appears that way to me. Another strong chapter.

To my mind you capture the fun and essential kindness of Buffy and Spike, despite all their snarking at each other. I like the fact that it is set in another dimension - it means I don't have to worry about it getting mixed up with the real BtVS. What else could you have called it?

At least it appears that way to me. Another strong chapter. They're BIO-SORCEROUSLY enhanced fighting chickens! It's a mixed science. Sort of like Suraman meets Dr. Moreau at the evil petting zoo. I'm enjoying where you're going with Triangles, especially the sudden appearance of you-know-who. I', going to the ocean over the 4th and I'm taking your chapters with me. I've been so busy I only skimmed them and they deserve a slower read.

Thanks Kerrie, I knew I couldn't keep all the backstory straight to write the "real" Buffyverse. Rob does all the characters really well, and Nan has Spike's voice to perfection. (My excuse is that Spike is a little more William in this dimension, not so London bad boy.) I'm just giving myself two or three Scoobies to worry about. Everybody else I can make up. I would have called it "Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright" after the Blake poem. But I've given that title to my next chapter, so I'm content. Spike has called a war council and the dragon riders saddle up.

Can you (please) give us the Blake poem if it is pre-requisite reading? The poem will start the chapter, but I'll send it to you by PM.\ because I'm not going to be able to finish the chapter until after th 20th.

Better late than never, I suppose. You most recent chapter is a masterpiece of imagery.
I can actually SEE the characters. Their actions, the way they're dressed, the atmosphere in which you place them is amazingly vivid.
The white tiger is a powerful thematic image; in this alternate universe you've created a scenario that makes Spike's "joining" with it entirely plausible and necessary.
Now Spike (if I understand the plot correctly) has TWO beasts within him to deal with...
It wouldn't surprise me if, at some point, Buffy provided him with his own personal sense of Balance. Her dialogue, by the way, is perfect.
Congratulations, Rusty. You've done a terrific job.

Yet again, I'm full of admiration for you, Rusty. I read your chapters and get completely lost in that world, no matter how long it is between chapters. It really is terrific stuff...I particularly enjoyed the final scene in front of the somewhat ragtag army, just waiting for someone to make their move.
Also, the moment in which Buffy places her trust in him is remarkably important. Not too long ago she would have staked him for doing such a thing without explanation. It says a lot about how much her trust and regard for him has grown since their arrival in Balance.
As always, Buffy is a very funny fish out of water in the scenes, as well. Keep the great work, Rusty. It's a lot of fun to read.

I notice on this board that it's been a year since this thread was written.....and I'm just wondering if Legions of Gorath is still being written? I've read all the chapters that are on the site (all 16 of 'em) and have been checking back anxiously wanting to read more...but there's none. So I am just wondering if there will be anymore at all? This is one of the best fics I've come across, and I am dieing to read more...please!

I will IM her (but she'd have to sign in to see it) but I'll also ask around and see if someone has her email and can ask her and direct her to your comments. In the meantime---have you read any of the other fiction here? Nan and Rob update regularly and have wonderful stories in progress. Plus, feel free to stop by the main thread, or, if you are watching any of the new shows come by and discuss LOST or Veronica Mars with us. Sue

Hi Ravyn--
Sue gave me a heads up about your message. I joined a writers group that's not fan fic and have been writing other vampire stories for publication. They are now holding my feet to the fire about finishing Gorath. I've become a better writer since I started it, so have revised/, and have committed to finish the whole book by the end of January. I have a small (read minscule) group of fans cheering me on.
If you can hang on just a little longer I promise that this won't stay a wip. I think my e-mail is in my profile, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll let you know how it's coming. Rusty
