LINDA POSTED......
What we know so far (as of Episode 1.17
...In Translation)
Kate ?? Episodes: a)
Tabula Rasa & b)
Whatever the Case May BeFlashback a) turning point: Trusting Ray to drive her to the train station.
Flashback b) turning point: Preventing the death of the bank manager by shooting her co-robbers.
Island a) turning point: Trusting Jack to tell him about why she's a fugitive. (Changed her mind later, though.)
Island b) turning point: Telling Jack that she killed the man she loved.
Why in Australia: She was already a fugitive, but it's unknown why she picked Australia.
Misc. facts: Neither flashback episode began with and eye shot. She's a fugitive. She had some sort of relationship with the Marshall. She can handle guns. She seems squeamish when it comes to blood, although she shot her co-robbers pretty coolly. She was married (for a short time). She's a vegetarian on the island, but scarfed down that plate of bacon & eggs back at Ray's ranch. She likes Jack. She's attracted to Sawyer. She has now admitted she's killed someone to both Jack & Sawyer.
Misc. questions: What is her crime (that the authorities know of)? Who did she kill? Who was her father? Why so many trust issues? What's the deal with the toy plane? Since she wanted it so badly, why the heck did she let Sawyer have the Pandora's Case in the first place?
"How the heck did she get away?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: n/a
Cameo in someone else's flashback: ?
Con (Wo)Man or Killer?: Con, definitely. Killer, possibly.
John Locke Episode:
WalkaboutFlashback turning point: Flying to Australia to go on the Walkabout, despite his boss's denigration, his "break-up" and his disability.
Island turning point: Getting up again after missing the boar the first time (The scene exactly echoed the beach scene with the toe shot, except shoed.)
Why in Australia: The Walkabout tour & his reach for his destiny
Misc. facts: He's the Hunter of the group. He used to be paraplegic. He likes role playing games & backgammon. He imagined a relationship with a phone sex operator -- who seemed to like him well-enough until he pushed too far. His boss was an asshat, probably not the first. He trusts the Island's magic. His compass does not point to True North. He *knows* things: how to get Vincent back, Charley's addiction, Walt's specialness, when it's going to rain, etc. Knocked Boone out and drugged him, with the intention of sending Boone on a "journey" without his consent. Appeared in Claire's dream. Brrrrr. Light & dark. Knives & blood.
Misc. questions: Big Roaring Thing/Heart of the Island -- What? What? What?! Is he insightful by himself, or does the Island tell him things? Agenda? How did he become paraplegic in the first place? Did he develop his hunting skills pre- or post-island? Why was he so obsessed with the underground metal thing? What is it? What made his father "uncool"?
"How the heck did he escape?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: The BRT attack/approach. (
ROAR!!! Rustle. ... "Locke is dead."
Rustle. Bacon!)
Cameo in someone else's flashback: ??
Con Man or Killer?: Con -- keeps many, many secrets. Killer -- not of humans that we've seen so far, but lots & lots of animals.
Jack Shepherd Episodes: a)
White Rabbit & b)
All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy IssuesFlashback a) turning point: Chasing his father to Australia.
Flashback b) turning point: Choosing to tell the truth about his father at the inquiry.
Island a) turning point: Going into the scary jungle to search for his father's specter.
Island b) turning point: Refusing to give up on saving Charley's life.
Why in Australia: His father's runaway bender. Don't know why his father chose Australia, though.
Misc. facts: He's the leader by default. He doesn't want to be the leader. He is a surgeon. He deals with fear by the 12345 method. He has a strong sense of right & wrong (except in the case of Sawyer-torture). Not so much the people-person on the island. He *hates* death. He can golf. (One assumes.)
Misc. questions: Where did he get his sense of right & wrong? And tattoos? Was his Dad in the coffin on the plane?
"How the heck did he escape?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: n/a
Cameo in someone else's flashback: Jack appeared in Sun's flashback (at the Airline ticket counter). Special mention: Jack's dad played a pivotal (devilish?) role in Sawyer's second flashback.
Con Man or Killer?: Killer, if you count the marshall.
Sun ?? Episode:
House of the Rising SunFlashback turning point: Staying with Jin & their marriage.
Island turning point: Revealing her English-speaking to Michael.
Why in Australia: Traveled to Australia with Jin.
Misc. facts: She's the gardener & herbalist of the group. She speaks English. She comes from a wealthy background. She was willing to elope with Jin. She hated her old, constricting, incommunicative life.
Misc. questions: Where did she learn about plants? What is her relationship with her father like? (We didn't get to see them together. Ever.) Mother?
"How the heck did she escape?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: n/a
Cameo in someone else's flashback: Her flashback is the other half of Jin's
Con (Wo)Man or Killer?: Con -- pretending & secrets & non-communication.
Charley ?? Episodes: a)
The Moth & b)
HomecomingFlashback a) turning point: Taking that first snort.
Flashback b) turning point: Taking Churchill's flask.
Island a) turning point: Burning the last of his stash.
Island b) turning point: Killing Ethan.
Why in Australia: Searching for his brother to re-start Driveshaft.
Misc. facts: Former heroin addict. Used to be all about the music. (Have we seen his guitar since
The Moth?) He's had carnal relations with many women. He was a church-going boy who planned to quit the music biz for his own good. He has self-esteem issues. He likes Claire. He really, really wants to be able to take care of someone. Copy machines -- not his thing.
Misc. questions: Why did he kill Ethan? What did Ethan (or The Others) do to him before hanging him? Does he remember? Jack brought him back from the dead -- does it mean anything?
"How the heck did he escape?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: He didn't escape.
Cameo in someone else's flashback: ??
Con Man or Killer?: Both.
Sawyer (not his real name) Episodes: a)
Confidence Man & b)
OutlawsFlashback a) turning point: Stopping the con when he saw the boy.
Flashback b) turning point: Killing the wrong!Sawyer.
Island a) turning point: Not burning his letter.
Island b) turning point: Giving up the gun (& the need for revenge, IMO).
Why in Australia: Looking for the original Sawyer.
Misc. facts: He is the collector/scavenger/saver of things of value. (The go-to guy when any of them need something important.) He witnessed the deaths of his parents. From that point onwards (until very recently), his primary driving force was vengeance -- aimed at the person who triggered his parents' murder/suicide. His surrogate parent seems to be Hibbs (Sawbucks -- good catch, Vlad!) He was damaged enough to pull the trigger on not-Sawyer. He doesn't let anyone except Kate (and, rarely, Jack & Sayid) see more than the surface asshat. He is able to forgive Sayid for the torture (I think). He's still an intermittent bone-deep asshat. With nice dimples.
Misc. questions: How did he and Hibbs hook up? And how did Hibbs betray him that first (but not last) time? Why was he arrested in Australia & how did he escape being charged with murder?
"How the heck did he escape?" Jungle of Mystery Moment: n/a
Cameo in someone else's flashback: He was being arrested during Boone's police report.
Con Man or Killer?: Both.
