So this is sort of a creative thought exercise/fantasy. Indulge and Enjoy.
If you could choose 3 of the Losties to accompany you when you crashed onto a deserted tropical island, who would you choose and why?
ETA: Assume a typical deserted island, not the island of DOOM.

OK I would pick Sun and Jin, because they have so much survival-without-modern-conveniences knowledge. And I would pick Hurley because he seems best at handling the situation, mediating, and setting people at ease. ETA: I should point out that I would hope to have medical skillz of my own if I ever end up on a deserted island, which is why I did not look for medical skillz in one of the Losties (did not consider Jack so highly) I would choose.

I'd choose:
1) Mr Ecko, he's big and strong -- willing to do whatever is necessary to survive and he has faith in God.
2) Sun - she knows how to grow vegetables and as Liz said she seems best at surviving without-modern-conveniences.
3) Jack - always good to have a doctor. You never know what kind of virus like nasties are out there. Plus he would seem like a natural choice for leader.

So this is sort of a creative thought exercise/fantasy. Indulge and Enjoy. If you could choose 3 of the Losties to accompany you when you crashed onto a deserted tropical island, who would you choose and why?Hmmmmm. Only 3, huh? Well, Sun, Jin and Locke have all proven to be good at getting food of some kind. And Kate, Mr Eko and Sayid all have good generalized survival skills. I think Ana Lucia might have those as well, but we haven't seen enough of her to know for sure. She's good at fighting/strategizing against the Others, but I'm assuming that I'm crashed on a normal desert island, not the wacky Land of the Lost. Jack, as a doctor would be a good choice, and yet oddly I tend to not put him in the top grouping simply because he is a modern doctor. I mean, most of the stuff he knows how to do is based on equipment and supplies he doesn't have (in our normal desert island scenario, which wouldn't have a Bunker of Dooooom and Goodies). We'd probably be needing to employ simple herbal and basic remedies for things (that Sun could help with) or we'd just need to "get better" on our own. Well, he'd be good for broken bones and injuries, I guess. So . . . I think I'd want either of these trios. Sun, Mr Eko and Kate. Jin, Locke and Sayid. I hate to split up Sun and Jin, but I think they'd do a nice job of balancing out the others. You get a nice mixture of generalist skills, tracking skills, and food procuring skills with either of these. Plus I think each group in combo wouldn't drive each other or me crazy. Hey, wait a minute! If this isn't the wacky Island of Unexplained Spontaneous Healing, then maybe Locke isn't the best choice. Then I'd put Ana Lucia or Hurley or Jack in place of him. Because Ana L is tough and likely has good survival skills. Hurley is an original thinker who comes up with good ideas, plus he's excellent at handling/working with people. And Jack is a doctor and could at least help with resolvable medical issues. Cool question!

Okay.
Gotta pick Hurley first, cuz fun to be with and a good heart.
And Eko, for strength of soul and body.
And Sun, to have a woman friend who also knows how to grow stuff.
I'm assuming we aren't on THE island, and have no need of warrior types.

After thinking long and hard, I have to chose Sun for female companionship, and her knowledge of plants, and then Jin will have to come along to keep her happy and bring us sushi. The third choice was the hardest. I like Hurley because I'd think he'd be a riot to hang with, but I decided to chose Sawyer instead. He's strong and has good survival instincts, and it is a gorgeous deserted tropical island, after all.

Sun and Jin for smarts and talents and knowledge and good friendship - Sawyer for fun. (Naturally, Karen, you would not be there, and I would be the fourth.)

Huh. In a "Dessert Island scenario" of the type where you don't have to worry about freaky smoke monsters, demonic boars, apocalypso dances, where tons of supplies are already handy, etc, I'd pick Libby, Kate, and Sun as my three co-strandees.
But that's just a pipe dream from the Happy Place.
In all seriousness, on an island NOT of the doomed, just some "Survivor" type place, I think I would pick Rousseau, Hurley, and Jack.
Jack? Because he's a doctor and an intelligent person, when he doesn't let his passions get too tangled up in things.
Rousseau? She's batshit crazy and paranoid, but I get along well with batshit-crazy people: we'd understand each other.
Hurley? Hurley's game to do anything, and has a level head on his shoulders, and knows how to cope with adversity with a smile. He's a stabilizing influence who would do his share of the work. Plus, he's fun to talk with.
Hmm. I'll think some more on this. Maybe I'll change my answers.
Oh, and, much as I love Sawyer as a character? I'd rather chop off my own pinkie, Yakuza-style, than rely on him to watch my back, in the mental place he's in, now.

Go find your own fantasy island fantasy, missy! Seriously, you gotta have an estrogen-friend for company, and non-competitive type estrogen is the best. Plus, Jin - not bad to look at either. ;D

I'll chime in with Hurley for shade, Locke for the carnivore in me, and Sun for a nice green salad now and then. Plus you could do far worse for femaile companionship. And, errrmmm, this is a dessert island? Does that mean hot fudge sundae trees and the like?
