somehow it reminded me of a lumbering dinosaur. poor alien. A lumbering dinosaur or stranded whale. Poor thing! yeah, when it broke free, and was trying to move - it reminded me a lot of a beached whale or a stranded sea lion. i thought the eyes were especially well-done in the special effects - they conveyed sentience and pain pretty well. being a sci fi or fantasy writer would be neat - all the creatures you could imagine into being...

It keeps needing more sedative, 'cuz it's in horrible pain and it keeps getting bigger, you dimwits. Even if the TW folks didn't save it, I wonder if one day it would get so large you couldn't keep it under anymore and then what? It's so big it could just roll on you all and mush you! And you'd deserve it, wouldn't you? And now it all goes to hell. Interesting that it is Rhys and Ianto that are grabbed. So we can compare how Gwen and Jack handle things. And Jack ends up giving up his weapon too . . . Oh, Rhys! Oh, clever Ianto! Oh, just what I thought! It's waking up. What is Owen grabbing? Oh, wow!! Hot, dominant, competant Ianto! Owen saying "sorry" means . . . is he sedating or . . . ? Yep. Mercy killing. Probably right. I mean, did they have the technology to heal it? So sorry. And they just stand there, hands on and doing what they can to be with it while it dies. And that's why the head guy kept insisting on it being "just meat", 'cuz he wasn't sure inside but was keeping that pushed away. So he could make his money and "have something for once". "Next time, let her take the bullet." "Never." And that's how they each feel about the other, Gwen and Rhys, isn't it? The guys retconned. The alien gone. Nothing there, never was. And now Jack wants Rhys retconned too? Hmmmm. Is she really going to? She did it once, but the look on her face with Jack was . . . . was like she was planning on not doing as he wants. "Nobody else knows". And now you know what she's been thinking all this time. He's so adorably excited about it all. Like her, in a lot of ways. Like the part of each of them that sees the wonderousness of the universe and all. Oh, wow! Gwen tells them all. They don't understand, they aren't involved with someone . . . retcon her if they have to. Oooh, Jack and Gwen showdown! "You really think you could go back to your old life before Torchwood?" "I wouldn't know anything different." (Except, you proved to be a bit difficult to retcon before, didn't you Gwen? ) "I would." Heeee! Angry voice as he says "give Rhys my love and I will see you tomorrow". ;D Considering the previous conversation about them all being "sad single" (um, but not Ianto, really now, is he?), this suggests some other options. Now, will they seize those options or not - that is the question. Watching, Jack? Hmmmm.

So it gave it that "alien" vibe. I love that aspect of SciFi - the world building. Creating new creatures and societies and so on.

Rhys = win Jack/Rhys - homoerotic confrontation -> pretty / are you gay? = solution to the whole Jack/Gwen thing, just invite Rhys to join in. Threesome or moresome is often the answer. But many people don't want to see that. Very much missing the point, indeed. But then, I've never been a monogamy-only kind of person. Bits I enjoyed/agreed with: Because: first, true, and second, heeeeee! Damn, we must have had some snippage of show. But I loved flirty Jack. Flirty with the woman at the office was one of my faves, but then I love double entendre - Long haul . . . heh!! Also, zingy cake boss? Excellent metaphor. Tasty! I had that vibe too.

Heddlu. A suburb of Cardiff, I presume? Picking all the meat off the pizza, hee. And Rhys finds out about what Gwen's really up to. Torchwood is pretty dense if they can't figure out that some one is trailing them. ;D Yeah, sometimes I'm all "this is the crack team that foils all the alien plans?" **nods** Been a long time coming, I think. Well, not really invisible. More like . . . like an improbability field. So that people don't want to notice you or it. Quietly snarky Owen, while Jack and Gwen were shouting 'round the table? Too excellent! Doesn't. And a nice scene it was. I liked her saying that she wouldn't and the only way around that would be to lose her from the team too.

Awww. Sometimes I like Rhys and sometimes I want to smack him. But I can see why he and Gwen are together. They are comfy and have history. And he's . . . well, he's normal guy. Normal life. i was overstating it to be a bit silly. but in reality i don't feel like he treats her very well (not that i think she treats him very well either!). i find the whole relationship rather dysfunctional. Heee! I like silly artemis. I think it will be interesting how getting the big secret out in the open will affect their relationship. Because, yes, they don't always treat each other well, but a lot of what we've seen has come out of hiding stuff.

it's funny - this is the most excited i've ever seen rhys be about something to do with gwen! i guess she should have told him about her job a long time ago. so did the tranquilizer accidentally kill the alien, or...? i'm feeling a bit confused about that bit. I think Owen grabbed what was needed to kill it when the other guy told him there wasn't enough sedative and the others were in danger as it thrashed around. I also wonder if he knew this was a possibility from the start. 'Cuz as a doctor he must have been wondering how they were gonna be able to heal it . . .

*sigh*
Of two minds on this one. I thought it was a good idea, a good story, and I really got caught up in the disgust and horror and in caring about the fate of the creature.
On the other hand, just as I'm starting to think Torchwood has got its collective head out of its collective ass, they go and involve RHYS in an operation. It wasn't the only way, and it nearly got everyone killed. It DID get the creature killed, since had Rhys not boneheadedly alerted the bad guys to the fact that he wasn't what he seemed, they might still have saved it and sent it home.
Really, not very stealthy, for a "secret agency", TW. I mean, whatever happened to good, old-fashioned, come in the cover of darkness, tie up (and eventually Retcon) the crew, and deal with the problem?

I agree, here. Rhys/Gwen lost me last season, and nothing they've shown me since has caused me to come back. They treat each other very badly, and I don't think, personally, it's all due to stress over her lying to him.

And you'd deserve it, wouldn't you? And now it all goes to hell. Oh, the sound of the alien in pain! It really, really got to me, like I was wincing in agony along with the alien. I'm wondering where they got the sound effects--I'm assuming it's based on whale noises, but something else too, maybe. Ah! Good point!! Ianto was SMOKIN' hot, wasn't he? Brrowrr. Yup, I knew as soon as Owen said, "new plan" that he was switching gears away from saving and towards mercy killing. It was the right thing to do, but very sad. Jack wanted to save the alien, but he didn't know anything about the alien's home and whether the alien could survive back in his/her dimension at such a large size and with such drastic wounds. Did you notice the guy who was in charge of sedating the alien holding his head in agony as he realized what he had been taking part in? He had allowed himself to be deluded that the meat wasn't coming from a sentient being, but when the veil was pulled away, he clearly hated himself for what he had done. I found myself pretty unmoved by the Gwen/Rhys love story. Rhys is sweet, and a nice balance to show's darkness, but I don't think he and Gwen are a good match. And why is the tryst she had with Owen being swept completely under the rug? Why is Tosh willing to take Gwen's sloppy seconds, particularly when Owen clearly has no interest in her. I see more chemistry between Tosh and Jack than I do Tosh and Owen. Lots of UST between Gwen and Jack, which doesn't bother me as much as it does others, I gather. But I think that's because I don't really see it going anywhere. Maybe I have Jack confused with Barrowman, but I see him as clearly gay, but who also loves to flirt with anyone who has a pulse. Kind of like Madonna--she danced along the lesbian edge off and on for many years, but here she is today, an old married woman with a couple kids. I really liked this ep! It kept me engaged throughout and there were many laugh out loud lines by Ianto and Owen. I even laughed at Gwen's rant about Scooby-Doo. Sort of a sly Buffy reference, perhaps?

The "meat" source looks like a space whale to me. Kinda sounds like one too. Cutting it up while it's alive? That's horrific. All I kept hearing in my brain is The Smiths, "Meat is Murder". This one is a downer.

I got no Gwen/Jack vibe here. I got Jack envying Gwen her normalcy vibes. Sort of a "if only" kind of thing. Tosh, could you be more overt? Poor thing. Owen isn't giving you the time of day. On the other hand, why do you want him now? I know she had a thing for Owen before, but really, after the Gwen tryst you'd think she'd think twice. And, did anyone see Barrowman having a tough time keeping a straight face when he says, "This is quite homerotic"? Cracked my shit right up. Rachael has a good point. I mean, bringing Rhys along on the job? That's just insane.

I'm over Rhys and Gwen. I would like them over. I don't think they are right for each other. They're just mismatched.
