It’s freezing inside SC and Pete actually apologized to his secretary. Is this the apocalypse?
I am trying to figure out what was the symbolism behind the HVAC issues. First the office is freezing cold, then shortly after it's stifling hot. Any ideas? I will have to re-watch this ep.
I totally empathized when he told Trudy that he didn't even really hear what Layne was telling him, it was all "blah blah." Sometimes people are calm because they need to time to absorb what really happened. Of course he had his little temper tantrum later, refusing to go to the wedding. He used the excuse that it was inappropriate to celebrate in light of the assassination, but it was just that, an excuse.
I tend to think his later action of not wanting to go to the wedding was a mixture of a lot of things. Temper tantrum at the bosses who are demoting him, real anger at the way some people were talking about the assassination, fed-up-ness over the refusal by the firm to see and move with the changing times, and so on.
He really does. It's strange that we only get to view Ken through Pete's eyes. We really know very little about Ken. I thought it was telling that shortly after Pete barked at his secretary for giving him instant hot chocolate, we see Ken helping a secretary set up a space heater (I think that's what it was, anyway). He clearly doesn't just take care of his customer's needs just because it will get him sales, he does it because it's in his nature.
That was a wonderful little peek at Ken we got, wasn't it, fixing something for one of the secretaries?
That was soooo bitchy! I loved it. ;D
Also bitchy!! But I didn't exactly understand the comment. Why would Duck be more attractive just because he was married?

All I can think of is . . . like, why are you bothering to keep sleeping with a guy who isn't asking you to marry him unless there is a reason why he can't - that he's already married. Sort of, you should be moving on to a better prospect because the only reason to encourage a guy, to have sex with him, is to "get" a husband?
Yup, yup, yup. Especially since she's the SAME AGE as her step-mom.
Mona was on fire!! Roger is an idiot for leaving her.
Trudy is growing on me. She is too good for nanny-raping Pete.
Yup, yup, yup.
Seriously? I am so skeeved out by Duck. What a dick move, unplugging the TV so he could get his leg over before telling Peggy that something happened, and then ditching her to be with his kids. Asshole.

Oh, he definitely was just focued on the sex, but I guess I don't see that as being that much different than Peggy, in a way. I think they're each getting out of the relationship exactly what they want. And I don't think he'd have done it if he knew exactly what had happened, at that point in the broadcast they were just saying there was some news about the President, not yet saying exactly how serious it was.
I also wondered if lapsed Catholic Peggy will struggle with guilt over having a nooner at the same time the first Catholic president was murdered.
I agree, Harry is interesting. He doesn't even really seem to enjoy his job very much, but he knew a niche was there to fill, so he filled it.
How funny was it that Harry's job is to keep his eye trained on the TV, and yet he completely misses the bulletin?!

OMG, that was so perfect! ;D
Those were two moments that really struck me as well. We've never seen Carla smoke before.
Oooh. Did Jackie take pills? I didn't know that.

Well, I don't remember all of it, it was a long time since I last read about all that stuff, but I seem to recall that JFK and Jackie both got a bit caught up in the early "Dr Feelgood" stuff. He started taking pain pills originally, of course, because of his bad back, but I'm pretty sure both of them got into it for a while.
Yup, yup, yup. Sometimes Roger is an OK guy.
I rewound and watched that scene several times as it unfolded--first to see Don's expression, then to see Henry's, and finally to see Betty's.
She's pretty damn awesome, isn't she? And she wasn't the least bit surprised or put out that Roger was calling her late at night. They were completely natural with one another.
I almost see this as more of a business arrangement than a love affair. The way he almost mechanically reached over to kiss her after their conversation, and she dutifully kissed him back. It didn't read as passionate, to me. He's her meal ticket, she's his arm candy.

I don't see it exactly that way, I tend to assume that there are probably more layers to everything. So, I think she genuinely feels something for him and he for her. But I also think that, yes, she's not the kind of person who would be bold enough to leave or even contemplate leaving a marriage unless she had some other prospect in mind. I don't get why he's so involved so fast with her, all I can think is that he has some kind of image or vision of her that fits his fantasy woman in some way. And she has a bit of an idealized vision of him too.
All of which, of course, would probably mean that if they do get married it could be just as disasterous as marriage to Don. Because, once again, fantasy instead of reality at the heart of it? Not a good idea!
That's a strong possibility.
Sad, wasn't it? Work is all they have for comfort.
That was the cherry on top of an emotion filled episode!!
Thanks for your kick ass recap, Lola!

Oh, perfect perfect song! It’s the end of the world, because you don’t love me anymore.

Hee! Well, they're not really recaps so much as my first reaction babbling as I watch, so . . .
