Also, besides crushing on a Brazilian girl group and wearing jeans, my husband is apparently growing a beard. He's one of those men whose beard comes in bright red (although it seems to have a lot of grey now) and grows at a 90 degree angle to the skin surface. Julia, wishing we were rich enough for the sports car. Red? Shiny? Shaped like a penis?

Dammit, how dare these trustees show up here and interfere with my ability to complete a jigsaw puzzle? The nerve! Some people just have no sense of what's important.

I would also like to say that I am sorry that I missed out on the first couple parts of this celebration. It was completely unintentional, as I thought you would jsut now be getting around to Part 1000. Here's some quickie stuff regarding those I missed: Alexandra: A complete class act! Funny, warm, including and strong when she needs to be. I will always be thankful to her for initially drawing together the tiny band of miscreants that became the founders of the S3. I remember meeting her at S'fest II: Chicago. She and I had a long private discussion as we walked lead to the Italian restaurant that first night (which resulted in us missing our turn and going a few blocks out of the way. ;D Now the real story is out!) We talked about how amazing it was that what a few of us had done as a lark had become so important to so many people. It was a future that neither of us had comprehended when we were posting our silly puns at each other and arguing over whether vampires needed blankets. Nan: Nan was a character. She and I would occasionally butt heads in private, but both of us were of the nature that we never actually butted heads. I would just stew and simmer. I look back on it fondly now. We both cared so much about everyone here, that we were convinced that only we knew what needed to be done. And yet, we both also tended to work behind the scenes to garner support for our ideas to get them realized. When we started working together, things really took off. She seemed so excited to meet me in person in Chicago. I'll always remember her pointing out my hands as I stood with her and a few others while they were smoking. "You got them too!" I was confused. She then pointed out my tan lines on my fingers... where only the top part is tanned and the finger below the knuckle is pale white from curling your fingers around your handle bars. Me from my motorcycle and her from her scooter. "Biker's tan!" It was the weirdest moment of connection between two people that had known each other online for years, but, in person, was discovering all those little things that don't come across from typing. In the broader sense, the board lost one of it "premeir" members when she passed. We could always depend on her to provide some reason during an argument or to give us a definitive answer to some spelling or grammatical issue. Patti: I could fill this entire part with memories of Patti. I worked so closely with her for years and we shared so much, both board-wise and personal. She is the best example I could ever provide of how you could become great friends with someone online, truly be a part of their life while a thousand miles away. I have never known anyone with a bigger heart or more compassion nor more caring for her fellow humans. I still think about her most days and frequently, when I am in distress, when my baser self wants to act. I feel her almost as a presence in me, at first voicing the most petty of acts with obvious zeal and relish, but then wagging a finger and shaking her head and saying ala Faith: But that would be baaaad. And then I try to take hte high road. I can truly say I am "better" for having known her. And,, not the least... she opened my eyes to Shan, who I harbored quite a few misconceptions of and wanted nothing to do with. If there was any force that put the two of us together, it was Patti. We will always be grateful. Angelique- After posting all that about Alex, Nan and Patti I feel somewhat bad here because I have a lot less to say. I don't know you as well, but there is no denying you have more than earned your heartfelt acceptance on this board among many of the others that I have known for a long time. You have always demonstrated a quick wit and the good nature that blends right into this motley crew. I am glad you found a home here. It is because of you and folks like you that this place is still so vital. I don't think we could have hand picked a member who fit in so naturally. I hope that as time goes on, and maybe as I find more time to be around more often again, we will develop our own fond memories. Vlad

Nothing like getting a text message from your son that reads, "Our school is on fire." Unless it's followed up with: "We don't need no water/let the motherf*cker burn" and then you know he's just playing. Hope everything's OK!

Watched Life on Mars. Wow, good episode. First, the shallow: *I'd like to see Michael Imperioli play a role where he's not douchebag, cause it distracts me from enjoying the pretty. The shaggy hair doesn't help either. *Wouldn't say no to more of Jason O'Mara in a wife beater, yum. *Love the 70s cop show-esque background music. Ba dum ba da ba dum dum. Next, the Major: *It's all about intolerance. Vets against hippies, hippies against The Man (Vets and cops). Cops against hippies and the less reputable inhabitants of their precinct. And then Sam connecting that to 9/11 and contemporary fundamentalism. That was a pretty good wow moment. *Violence too. Parallels between the police brutality we saw in this episode and others with the actions of the gay bashers. Of course, the gay basher's victims haven't done anything wrong (at least the more enlightened contemporary opinion) whereas the suspects usually aren't innocent. Hunt believes in justice being served but has no problem with taking a little vengeance on the bad guys. Is that OK? *Sam not being the only one grappling with reality. The questioning of reality (and experimenting with transcendental meditation and mind altering drugs) among the counter culture. The cognitive dissonance between military and gay. The vet and his commanding officer grappling with sexual orientation. The reality in war and in peace. Hunt having trouble with the idea of Rock Hudson being gay. *The Now What? question after the US withdrew from the Vietnam War. Both in the peace movement trying to find their new purpose in that little meeting we saw. The vets having trouble shifting back to civilian lives (and with little to no support from anybody). "It will all come apart, in war and in peace." *Sam threatening the gay bashers with sodomy. Didn't make a distinction between prison rape and homosexuality though. Sign of residual homophobia, even amongst the more enlightened? *Sam telling wife and son how the vet died without really telling them, since homosexuality would have confused the issue and would be irrelevant to their grief. That was neat. Finally, the minor: *Sam spoiled the ending of Soylent Green for Michael Imperioli. Ha! *Since the gay basher sting was his idea, I think that Sam should have been the bait. Although "Wow, Uncle Harold?!" was pretty funny. *Sam's acclimating to the culture of the precinct, snarking at Hunt, threatening suspects, and yelling at people on the phone. *Sam's trying to find himself, literally and figuratively. Or perhaps just figuratively. *Is Windy just a figment? And possibly his four year old self too? Or if this is all his imagination, then maybe Sam's experiencing are shifting "realities" in his imagination.

Yo, Julia! Perhaps this will take your brain off abysmal brazillian girl-pop and horrible redbeardism: Synechdochic has written an SG-1 companion to siegeofangel's "If you want to kiss the sky." The Wealth Of Our Nations Fed On Angel BloodFreaking amazing. I do want to see more in this universe. And I really feel for Sam in the effed-up overly-Spartan wonderland.

*Man, I really want to give the Stone brothers a hug. And dad kept a journal!? (Did anybody else get Supernatural vibe?)

I couldn't access the board for awhile there. I don't know what that was about. Anyway. Congratulations to Anne's lovely part! And yes, that does sound dirty Jan. Whenever I think of Anne, I think of tea, and her throwing brackets on a table. We are such a fun bunch!

Yeah, that is a weird-in-all-the-best-ways twist on military culture and John as an outsider, to say the least. And Synodochic is one of the best active fanwriters, in my opinion. Have to read it, although today it's all laundry-and-gardening, again, and tonight we're going out for Indian food. Julia, funny how things build up over a long wet summer.
