Part III
Locke in a hospital bed again. ...And Jack is his doctor. He's got the beard going on but it's not full strength yet. Interacting with Locke again must be what puts him over the edge.
It's not fate. It's probability.
About whether Locke is special. Jack doubts Locke.
Locke drops the bomb about Christian Shepherd. That must be what does it. Whoa.
We were never important.
Locke writes the note.
Locke never did visit Sun, did he?
Time for Ben to show up.
Huh. So I guess Locke really did commit suicide. Or he was starting to before Ben rudely interrupted him.
Leap of Faith.
And there's Ben.
Ben says he's trying to protect the Oceanic 6.
Yeah, Ben killed Abbadon.
The Losties seem to be just pawns in this ongoing feud between Widmore and Ben.
So this is when Jack starts joyflying. Downward spiral. Yep.
Locke tells Ben about the promise to Jin. Oh, right. That's why he didn't go see Sun.
And this is how Ben knows about getting Mrs. Hawking help.
And that changed his mind about Locke living. Interesting. So I was right. Ben did kill Locke.
I wonder what the history between Mrs. Hawking and Ben is.
Wow, killing in cold blood, right there.

Part IV
Ben sets up the suicide that he interrupted.
Ben is a serious sociopath. Not that we didn't know that already. He does seem a little frazzled though.
Back on the island. This office again. Oh, this must be another station.
So when you crashed, you were already here. Well, yes. In a manner of speaking.
From the perspective of the other passengers the Oceanic 6 seemed to vanish out of thin air.
Ben's there in the present too. But injured.
He's the man who killed me. Good times.

"The pilot and some woman took one" So Frank and.... who? Sun?New cast members Ilana and Ceasar Heh. Locke just brings the weird. "I think this suit is what they were gonna bury me in" And FlashLocke! So is locke trapped somewhere in Tattooine, too?Apparerntly so. I think the compound fracture is probably not a good way to get out of the area. and a camera aimed right at the spot where he turned up. Wonder who his behind that. Oh, look! Locke's all feverish and stuff! And here are a bunch of arabs playing the parts of jawas for this scene.Holy crap, it's Abbadon. He certainly does get around, doesn't he? So THAT is why Widmore so batshit crazy about getting back or controlling the island or any damned thing. He got tricked off by Ben. Was Widmore the leader of the Dharma initiative,or of the Others others,t hat took over after Ben brought down the Dharma initiative? "War coming" Wrong side is going to win" I'd say any side opposite Charles Widmore? Good side. Oh, right. Frank is the pilot.Dude, you are cracking me up!

Oh, Hugo thinks that Locke is dead. Hurley recognizes Abbadon, too. oh! poor Hugo! I do admire his strong moral convictions. "Step up your game" so they're under a time crunch. Can't talk while driving? Reminding him of his previous role in things. NICE, people actually talking! So he's a pawn manipulator. I like how Widmore and his people seem to use the opposite tactic from Benry and his gang. Honesty and info (or should I say apparent honesty and info) as opposed to costumes and pretence and games. Sets them nicely as opposites in method even as I am convinced they are equally twisted and not to be trusted underneath.Heeeeee!! Pot, meet kettle. Ooooh, that's a possibility, isn't it? So, he could still be a mystical ageless guy like Richard, just pretending to be killed? Perhaps to further Widmore's plans? Or, hurt/wounded, but then he'll bounce back up like one of those punching bag things. Indeed! Ooh, that's a great observation.

And we cut back to John in a hospital bed with Jack looking at him. Heh. coincidence!! Jack got the "only slightly crazy" beard on. It's got to grow a bit to get to full-on crazy Mountain Man looks. No, you aren't certain of that. All we really know is that they don't at all like Matthew Abbadon. If it's true of him, Jack, it's true of you, too. The "not being special" bit.
So Locke figured out who Christian was. Wonder if he had help.
Yep. Jack wants to have been imPORtant! to the world, too.Exit Jack to take a hell of a lot more drugs. And the suicide note. I guess being island-reincarnated fixed his broken leg. Yeah, extension cords are easier to get without question than ropes, I guess. Enter the Benry. And Locke's action is one of someone mildly irritated at being interrupted. So Benry killed Abbadon. Both Widmore and Benry seem in agreement that Locke is the next leader. Locke's just.. lost. he's not doing this because of the needed sacrifice, he's doing it because he's in despair. So, there ya go, John, you convinced Jack. Ben sinking to his knees to beg. and to untie the electrical cord. Ben scares me the most when he's being all nice. So the fvcker DID know what Jin had said. I don't even know why I'm pretending to be surprised. "Woman here in Los Angeles" so Ben's gonna kill him now that he's saved him? Yep. There we go. So what is it about Farraday's momma that causes murderous impulses? Does Locke know she's a shortcut back to the island? Oh, yeah. That goes back to that scene where Christian's telling YoungJack that he's not special and he shouldn't think for one second that he is. I'm not sure if Jack wants to be important to the world, but I think he does want to be important to other people.

Sohe rehung Locke. And any good criminal carries around some nitrile no-powder gloves and some windex. I honestly believe him, with that catch in his voice. Oh, it's the Hydra station, not the Village of the Darned. they're on the auxilliary island. So they went walkabout in time. And the plane crashed. "People who got hurt" where are they caring for them at? ah, in an infirmary there. Some people with first aid training. Hi, Ben! Nice exit line: "He's the man who killed me" Ohh. But wait. The time jumping Losties ran into their camp and the kayaks. How did they do that if they plane crash people were on the other island?

I thought that Ben killed Locke because Locke had decided not to tell Sun that Jin was alive, since he promised Jin; and Ben knew that telling Sun that Jin lived would get her back to the island...
Ben is also very jealous of Locke, I think; he tried to kill him before after Locke communed with Jacob in the cabin.
Boy, Walt's grown up fast. I missed the part where he discussed the dream - what did he say? And why didn't he ask about Vincent?
G.Oh, yeah. I had forgotten about the other time Ben tried to kill Locke. And you're right about Vincent. When is somebody going to ask about him?

Some highlights from Doc Jensen's recap: ''There's a war coming, John,'' he said ominously, ''and if you're not back on the Island when that happens, the wrong side is going to win.'' Widmore didn't elaborate, and I wanted to punch Locke for not pressing the issue. Like:
JOHN: What kind of war? A world war? A territorial skirmish? An End Times war, like in The Stand, or The Last Battle, or Supernatural? And who would I be in this scenario? Jesus? Aslan? Jensen Ackles? Oo! Oo! Can I be Jensen Ackles?! Please?!Paraphrasing the Sayid/Locke chat: SAYID: John, you're being manipulated. By Widmore. By Ben. By both. Let this go. LOCKE: I don't care! Just come with me back to the Island. It'll be fun! SAYID: No. Stay with me and do some good work for some needy people here in the real world. LOCKE: HELP PEOPLE? IN THE REAL WORLD? WHEN WE CAN BE LIVING LIKE KINGS IN OUR OWN PRIVATE NARNIA? WHAT ARE YOU — CRAZY?! SAYID: John, your misplaced priorities disturb me. You've been infected with the 'American Idol' virus — that corrupt cultural value that equates self-worth with ''being special,'' self-realization with overstated achievement. Seriously, John: You have more to offer the world than hunting boar, pushing buttons, and blowing subs. Instead, you should consider emulating the kind of everyday heroism that I now sweatily embody: selfless, humble, global minded yet locally invested, building communities with my bare yet well-manicured hands — LOCKE: Oh, go wash your hair or something. And summing up the Locke/Hurley exchange: LOCKE: Come with me back to the Island. HURLEY: You're crazy, dude! And...scene.

I watched the interview with Matthew Fox on the podcast and when asked about why Jack was so determined to get back to the island after having spent all that time trying to leave, MF said that he thinks subconsciously that Jack wants to see if his father is really alive or not. Consciously, Jack decided go back because he [Jack] felt that the only other option was to kill himself.
Of course, that's just his interpretation and actors aren't always the best authorities on their characters, but it seems kind of insightful and Jack's motivations aren't that clear to me in the show itself. The idea that Jack wants to get closure on his dad one way or another makes perfect sense to me.

And yeah, the actors are not always on the same page as the writers and/or creators, but it is a plausible motivation for him, isn't it?
