Spring: I LOVE the Ye Old Posts. Thanks World Series: Jim grew up in eastern PA: big Phillies fan. Wishes his dad and grandfather were around to see it. Me: swamped with paperwork, chores, errands, tutoring, visitors and already upcoming holiday-related prep. So, of course, I'm also finally meeting with the painters. Where's Pixi this morning? Got to go get my head in the game called Life. Pixi was in the ER this weekend with kidney stones. She posted on FB that she is taking the day off to recover. Poor Pixi! Yes, I saw that too! It sounded awful. Lots of intense, curled up on the floor pain . . . hrs in emergency room, etc. Her son Sam was with her, so she wasn't by herself. She is doing OK, last she reported on FB.

Kidney stones are horrid (no personal experience, just testimony from others). One wonders/hopes that the docs are looking for any possible underlying cause as sometimes they are a symptom of too much calcium in the blood which is, in turn, sometimes a symptom of parathyroid disfunction. Also, if they are caused by high blood calcium levels then the calcium is being leached from somewhere so the bones and teeth are at risk.

Good things came in the mail today, along with the bills. My silver lightning goddess pin arrived, wrapped in tissue paper with gold mandala-esque designs and the most intriguing Asian newspaper, along with this week's New Scientist. The earrings are yet to come, but that seller said up front it might take her a while to mail things, so I'm being patient. Also, phew. I have been excused from jury duty, at least for the moment. Just give me this year and the next; by then I should have Kitty settled in college and accustomed to public transit (of which, by the way, there is none to the high school or its vicinity). Then I can attempt the jury duty thing. Although I'm still going to wear the nice jeans, as it's that or a Ren Faire skirt, or perhaps sweatpants. Funny how all those years when I could've served, they never even asked. I quit my job to stay home and raise the baby, and all of a sudden I'm getting the questionnaires every year like freakin' clockwork. I'd best get back to the usefuls again. Tempus fugit, time flies whether you're having fun or not, time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana, and all that. ETA: This place is, as they say, dead. Busy like bees, are we? I hope it's fun busy, or at least something you're getting paid for, S'cubies.

I hope it's fun busy, or at least something you're getting paid for, S'cubies. Well, I left home about 2 to go tutor and then to a meeting the next treasurer of the church women's group. And prior to leaving I had to do the prep work for .... tutoring and turning over the treasurer stuff. So we arranged to meet at a local coffeehouse in VU's "campustown," but is was closed due to a plumbing backup so we went to a burgers and beef type grill across the street. She's in her mid-20's and her husband recently left his Christian rock band and has entered nursing school so she is supporting them. So we met at about 4:40. I was starving because I hadn't really eaten lunch so I got a burger, but she was heading home to cook a meal so she only got a beer. When the beer arrived she also got a "ticket." Each day at 5:30 they open a new cask (mini) of their locally brewed beer. If your ticket number is called you get to hammer in the bung (?), drink the first glass, keep the glass AND get your name entered into a drawing for next summer's beerfest to win a trip to Colorado. We didn't really have a lot of business but we had a good time with a lot of "getting to know you" conversation while I ate my burger. We'd paid and were about to leave when it was 5:30 and, yes, her ticket won! So she hammered in the thing that opens the cask, asked for only about a third of a glass (she'd already had one, is a tiny thing and hadn't eaten anything), put the empty glass in her purse and is entered to win the trip! What fun! So that is where I have been. Now I am home all alone with the rest of the evening, but I'm pretty sure that instead of accomplishing anything on my list I"m going to read, get ready for bed, watch Castle in bed and then sleep.
