HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MONNIE!!! Here's some angelic assistance to help you celebrate... I had to go back and quote this because this happens to be one of my all-time very favorite pics of Misha. I mean, dayum, but that mouth is just begging to be devoured. Thank you, Erin! You're so welcome! I liked that one a lot; he looked slightly tossled and tossable... You are totally worth celebrating...

Hey all, I went up to visit with Jan and Rich today. I'm sure Rich will provide a more detailed update for you, but it appears the surgery went fine yesterday. Jan's room, which she has all to herself, was about as nice as they get, and the staffers I interacted with all seemed very kind, thoughtful, and professional. It's clear that the cutest couple in America has thoroughly won them over already. Angelique and Jason were visiting for the weekend, and Angelique made Jan an absolutely gorgeous shawl--I was completely in awe of her skills. Rich modeled it for Jan and, lucky for us, Angelique captured the moment on her digital camera. It looked pretty good on him, but even better on its intended recipient. ;D Right now I'm hoping to go back up there next Sunday, weather and other circumstances permitting. Thank you, Sara. I wish I lived closer, but am comforted by the thought that you are there for her. Give her a hug from me next time you see her. She, Rich and her family are constantly in my thoughts.

Hey, Jan - I know it's sort of a stupid question, but - how are you doing? Jan hasn't been able to use a computer for a while now. She is on some pretty powerful drugs and drifts in and out of present time. She made it through the surgery Saturday, though the first hours after surgery were pretty rough. Today, though, she was in much less pain and her appetite seems to be coming back. It was really great seeing Sara yesterday and I know from her smile that Jan felt touched as well. Sara's post was, as always, fair and accurate. Expect to see a humiliating photo of me a beautiful shawl posted by Angelique in the next 24 hours. Jan's friends were in and out of her room all day yesterday, bringing positive energy and good cheer. Sunday night was like a party. Our friends and loved ones surrounding her bed, offering prayers, love and encouragement. Our friend Adelit brought his two a half year old son Joseph. Jan smiled to see him. There were jokes and swapping of stories. Jan drank it all in. She is aware and can hear people, but it is hard for her to talk. Nevertheless, she would speak occasionally, snarking and joking with people whenever she could. Today we continue to work on finding ways to reduce Jan's pain, though our options are getting more limited. Tomorrow they will be moving her to an extended care facility near the hospital and begin administering hospice care. Know that we feel your love and support.

Ah - I thought she might have been able to be here for a few minutes because she was on the front page as logged in.

HIMYM was most excellent! But then, any slap-based ep is virtually guaranteed to be excellent.

So, my sis and I are being extremely bold. We are going out, to a restaurant no less, on Thanksgiving! In fact, we're going to the Mall of America (shocking!) to see the sharks at Underwater Adventure (whoa!) before going to a restaurant (astounding!) on Thanksgiving. I'm really rather excited about the whole thing, actually. I love the tank at Underwater Adventure, the fish and sharks all swimming over your head, so beautiful and peaceful. It's like a whole new way to do the holiday!

Cuddy! You are cleverer than I would have thought.
Also? Interesting how House turns everyone that is close to him into a bit of a version of himself, as far as deviousness goes.

It's like a whole new way to do the holiday! We went to Shoneys several years when the kids were babies. Parents weren't traveling down here yet (eventually Jim's parents and 2 (at the time single) sisters all came here for years because it was easier for them to travel than for us to bring 3 kids -- too short a time to drive and too expensive to fly 5 of us.) Anyway, so when C and T were both under 2 I saw no reason to cook for Jim and me and we went out -- but had to go somewhere cheap and kid friendly. I totally approve of going out for Thanksgiving. Except I would probably end up cooking a turkey and stuffing sometime during the weekend just for the leftovers! Me, I don't shop that weekend -- but apparently some people love it.
