This is a brilliantly done episode.
I love the clothing continuity. In the last episode, everything was fun and silly, and in this episode, everything is so somber, but everyone is wearing the same clothes.
Before this point, Buffy's always been about wanting to have a "normal" life, but we never really hear of her wanting that after this point. I think that Joyce dying a normal death causes Buffy to become disillusioned with the idea of "normal."
This exchange:
Joyce: You are a demon child. Buffy: I live to torment you, is that so wrong? Joyce: A daughter's duty, I suppose.
Seems like a reference to the question of whether Buffy's Slayer powers are demonic in origin.
The medical stuff on this show always has errors, but the part where the EMTs arrive, pronounce Joyce dead, and then take off, leaving Buffy alone with the corpse, would never happen, and it really bugs me.
The CPR is wrong too, as it always is on TV, but it has to be because Kristine Sutherland would get hurt otherwise, so I give it a pass, but it still makes me wince.

I was watching the preview clip that the WB did for this episode. It showed a sketch of a drawing of a body at the beginning - done by Dawn, I think?
Anyway, I hadn't noticed that before - or connected it to the title. Noticing these little details are one of the things that make rewatching the episodes so enjoyable.

An inanimate but lifelike body. Yeah, that's pretty neat.
