Discuss!
(Sorry I didn't create this before. I was distracted by Sherlock.)

Now this, this episode is the first since the pilot where it comes across to me as more Whedon-y than Marvel-y. The Rashoman-like pilot, the snappy dialogue, the pitch perfect characterization...this was great!
Best moment for me? The Coulson and Ward bit at the holo-table. It actually made me snort laugh. They need Ward in more situations like that, where he can play something other than generic tough guy.

A train ep! I love trains/secret identity/spy stories! Lots of opportunities for adventure and wacky shenanigans. ;-)
He’s right, Coulson is acting more aggressively.
Ha! “American then.” Good idea. ;-) Also? She is waaaaay getting into this pretending gig. “You’re the least supportive pretend girlfriend I’ve ever had!”
Love how Simmons is all “I’m not good at improvisation, but I excel at preparation”.
Woot! Stan Lee! (I’m still totally convinced that it was Stan Lee in the hall outside of Monnie and my hotel rooms at our first ComicCon. It was it was it was! And we acted all cool and then got into our room and bounced and squeed and eeeped.
See! See! Shenanigans! Also? Vanishing train! Whoa!
Fight fight fight! And he hesitates for just a moment before punching her in the face. Oh, Ward! Plus, I always love a good Rashomon-style story that shows us the same events from different perspectives.
“People are more trusting the country.”
“Suspicious?” “I was going to say fortuitous.” Which will prove to be right?
“The train, it vanished.” “Ok. We’ll look into it.” Heee! I mean, yes, urgent actiony, but also funny.”
Ward and Coulson using tech is never not funny. “I couldn’t even turn it on. Can you zoom in?” And then with the funny hand gestures. **smirk** Awkward sex talk – “it” and “on the bus”. “If it’s really just sex, Ward. You should really get comfortable using the word.” Serious Coulson is serious.
I knew they should be suspicious of that guy! Damn, Fierce-wounded-killer May is hot. Damn, her exit from the train was cool! So, is she out of phase with them? Or them with her? Or are they frozen/stuck somehow or ….? And she got the truck ready for them!
How did he not know where Coulson and Ward are? Could he not see them, or did he just not go there?
Yeah. Don’t call her sweetheart. Also? Stabbing her just makes her mad. Bad idea! So, when the guy said his men were all dead, she did it! I love this puzzle putting-together thing!
May will let Coulson help and not Ward. ‘Cuz Coulson is just making sense and Ward is … emotionally involved in complex ways. Train stopped … froze like they were froze? Or … ?
Now we’ll get Simmons’ and Fitz’s and Skye’s stories, right?
I like that they don’t show any of the 3 as being the best fighters – even Skye. I mean, she’s been training, yes, but she’s not totally expert yet. And they have a good feel of them improvising as best they can when they get to the house, again not perfect but just going for it. Bold action when you don’t have time for complicated planning. But is it a trap, I wonder? Are they being led to this plan?
Mike! It was a trap! And they’re gonna make him do bad things like they did with the other woman with the thing in her eye! :-(
If I wanted to hurt you, would you stop me …. if I wanted you to hurt her … she’s not who I’m supposed to kill ….
And then bad guy just shoots Skye!! OMG, I was not expecting that!!!! This is a seriously intense episode!!
Mike going after them all and then the body falling next to the car – Fitz! And Ward and company are there and … OMG OMG OMG!!
Badass Ward!! Mike is not to engage S.H.I.E.L.D …. And Skye in the same tube that Mike was in …. Good if it heals, but still creepy and did I mention intense? Because, whoa!
Oh, Simmons! Oh, Fitz! May is concerned but practical, Ward is angry. “I’m not blaming myself.” Oooooh!
“Can I please see my son.” Mike! :-(
Great ep!

Hmmm. Lots of clever enough action, but mostly it felt like they had somewhere to get the characters (Sleeping Beauty Skye) and everyone got shuffled around until they got there. Competently, interestingly, but. Feels like a middle.
also, I fear I don't mind one way or the other what happens to Skye, except in a vague generic why kill women kind of way. and i'm pretty sure they're not going to, permanently, so.
I did like the vanishing/stun trick. That was nifty.
I am still wondering why the team aren't super paranoid about the Clairvoyant having eyes on them and scanning each other and, you know, noticing that he's got a mole in SHIELD, rather than apparently going with the psychic cover. It's a bit stupid.
But then with the way the stories nested today the show pretty much promised us that what we the viewers see is subjective to one character at a time, they won't tell us more than the characters know, hence the vanishing part of the story. So possibly there's stuff going on we don't see. That would be irritating though.
Also I was thinking while watching that the Clairvoyant, if he's the guy behind all the eye implants, would also have an eye implant, because then you could never prove who was the boss, everyone would have a really good excuse.
Nice enough story to fill an hour with, kind of wish I was more invested because that ought to be very tense ending stuff. But I'll watch next week.

I did like lots of the character stuff, May being awesome, Ward and Coulson with the table.
I'm trying to figure out why it felt like moving things into place to me, and I'm not sure I can put my finger on it.
Maybe because it didn't feel like discovering things, more reactions? And the box was just a box, we weren't particularly invested in finding out what was in the box, so when Skye got to the room at the end and walked right past the box that seemed like what the whole episode had been doing. Like they were motivated by the ending, which they hadn't known about.
Or, possibly, I'm just in a picky mood. :-(
