Another really, so wrong here: Xander/Larry, BtVS Season 1. Aimieeliscious, "Aim the Pointy End Toward the Heart", NC-17ish, Larry gets hit upside the head with a 2X4 about how much he and Xander have in common. Link is to Part 1/3; LJ's memories have been screwed all week, and there are links to the other two parts in the headings: www.livejournal.com/users/aimeelicious/103293.htmlJulia, ready to have a fun, fun, fun weekend, oh, no I'm not

Glossing has an ability to breath life into the most unlikely of pairings; this is Illyria!Fred/Tara, R, and Post NFA, a tale of memory and transformation a delight and a work of art in the miniature, 2500 words of impecable beauty: www.livejournal.com/users/glossing/180885.html?view=3938197Julia, and, typically, I've forgotten the title.

Jenny has another substantial Spangel tale, "Mayfly Days." Although her subject, Spike/Angel love and couplings, becomes a bit repetitious to anyone who doesn't care for slash porn for its own sake, she finds and then holds the emotional center of each story with perception, intensity, and sympathy. In this one, Angel achieved the Shanshu at the conclusion of NFA; ten years afterward, he's a renowned painter. Enter Spike, who has a decision to make: whether to take Ilyria up on an offer to grant him humanity, too. He expects Angel to help him make that decision...one way or another. I found this one of Jenny's better tales. It's here.

Crazydiamondsue has an ongoing human AU story environment in which Angel and Xander are gay cowboys: Angel the much-buckled, hardened, and beat-up veteran from Oklahoma, Xander a kid from California with raw talent and a cowboy kink. Being Sue, it's well characterized, richly textured, and believable on the gay rodeo circuit details, and makes me wish I wasn't ruined for rodeo cowboys by having observed one extended family work out their sad country song life right next door. The link is to Part 2; Part 1 is linked in the headers: www.livejournal.com/users/crazydiamondsue/84939.htmlJulia, knowing this is a good story on all levels but being untouched by the angst and the hot because: cowboys, meh

The unique and wonderous Nasty Shrew (who is way younger than she should be allowed to be) has written a shameful tale of the failures of D.A.R.E called "A night of Naughty" Spander, R, and hilarious, although I need to go eat some chocolate now and have a glass of water: www.livejournal.com/community/bloodclaim/1023040.html#cutid1Julia, oh, heck, now I've got the giggles

This fic is a bother- it is not really slash, but there are slashy implications which I'm afraid the slash-averse would find so off-putting that I'll put it here for now and maybe move it if I feel different tomorrow. It's so nicely constructed that it should be widely read. Tabaqui, Lindsey in AtS s2, suffering, remembering, dreaming, and starting the day PG-13: www.livejournal.com/users/tabaqui/78430.htmlLovely bit of insight into the character

I seem not to have recced "Soulbearing" by DeborahMM, now that it's complete. It's a sequel to her mad "Furnitureverse," in which Spike, mildly brain-damaged by the Initiative, has come into the custody of Angel, who's benevolently but insanely intent on breaking him completely until he's an object--furniture--with no thoughts or emotions except those Angel imposes on him. In love with Spike, Wes wants Spike to revolt against Angel's "dehumanizing" treatment. Cordy has visions that threaten to kill her. This sequel is the fallout of Spike's dashing off--for reasons different than in BtVS--and getting himself a soul. Strange how things change; strange how they remain the same. A very odd, but very well written tale. You certainly haven't seen anything like it! It's here.

Shadowscast (of "How the Light Gets In," among others) has a short atmospheric piece, "Fever Dreams." Angelus, Dru, and Spike in Sunnydale during the BtVS S2 episode "Killed by Death." As the episode plays out elsewhere, Spike has the flu and is in the wheelchair; he's miserable and disoriented. Angelus takes charge. It's here.

Nasty Shrew has written an epilogue to her meandering Spander "Dead Sunflowers" Where Spike is caring for Xander driven mad by a very different end to BtVS s5 and they live with Dawn and Tara in LA. I love this fic, but it is so difficult to encapsulate that I put off writing a rec when it was finished. So I'm glad Shrew has given it a coda, with links to all the rest of the chapters, so I can say: Go. Read. As unlike any other S/X H/C post Gift AU as her "Three Quid Whore" is unlike any other Human AU "Spike's in a band and Xander's his groupy" fic. www.livejournal.com/users/nasty_shrew/37743.htmlShrew is very young but way too experienced for her age. She and I have gotten into long conversations about dealing with mentally ill relatives, and she's writing what she knows, I think. Julia, must run off to the market

The thing is, I am unable to think that Andrew is a reasonable subject for shippy fic, and normally would not even read it. But "Only in Cleveland," Entrenous88's five-part X/A fic, is so sweet, and funny, and affectionate, and the character voices so like themselves, that I have to suggest people try it even if, at the end, I am personally convinced that Andrew will die a virgin. Link goes to part 5, other parts in memories linked in headers: www.livejournal.com/users/entrenous88/274026.htmlJulia, neither of them are ridiculously wise or sophisticated

Lit_gal has finished "Irony" (S/X with hyena enhancements and dominance issues) here, with not one but two epilogues--the same scene from Xander's point of view, and from Spike's. I'm not sure this works out, story-wise, but Spike's POV is illuminating, given that the rest of the whole story is from Xander's viewpoint. I couldn't access the pictures also referenced in this list--all I got was the text.

I loved the story right up to the epilogues; it was what I was referring to, somewhere, when I referred to it going into PWP territory. There's another story I'd been following at Bloodclaim and quite liking, and then Spike developed an off-putting dialect and I can barely stand to read it now. I'm getting too picky, I fear. Julia, "Irony" is a great story, right up to the time they go home together...
