Thank you for the rec, Sue! Also Ran is a wonderful story! I have some recs: these are the fics posted in June. The Worst Journey in the World by ShapinglightCompleted, R, 5 years post-NFA. Ignores comics continuity except for a vague suggestion that Buffy is the head of some kind of quasi-military organisation. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, who had been resurrected by W&H, offers Buffy and Spike to take part in the mission to prevent the end of the world. Be warned, it's not a shippy fic, per se - but it's a fascinating story, full of twists, turns and kickass action. For Spike: A List by deird1One-shot, G, future!fic. Dawn tries to convince Spike that he should behave when she introduces her boyfriend to Buffy and him. Hysterically funny! (No, seriously. A must-read). Five Times People Noticed Xander's Bruises Didn't All Come from Patrol by DipenatesOne-shot, R. Xander/Cordelia, Xander/Faith, Xander and Angel, Xander and Spike, Xander and Oz Fix Me be ducktheduckOne-shot, PG-13, season 4. Gen. The Initiative did an experiment on poor Spike... an experiment much worse than chipping him! Hysterically funny. Soul Drinker by Hello_Spikey part 1, 2, 3Completed, PG-13, AtS season 5. Gen. An anti-W&H vigilantes use a magic dagger - "the soul drinker" - to de-soul Angel and to avoid the apocalypse mentioned in the Shanshu prophecy. In an ironic twist of fate it's Spike who gets de-souled... Witty, sharp, inventive blend of humor, drama, philosofical musings and spot-on character voices. Bad Ideas by KallystenCompleted, NC-17, Post-Crush. Spike/Angel. Drusilla, rejected by Spike, wishes the Slayer had never come to Sunnydale. A string of Bad Ideas to bring Angel and Spike together, ensues. A Letter From the Grave by dampersnspoons Completed, R, post-NFA. Buffy gets a letter Spike has written before the final battle. She contacts Charles Gunn and finds out that Spike has probably died in the battle... Anticipation by 2writers4spike (aka mabel_marsters & dawnofme) WIP, NC-17. After completing his trials in African cave, Spike finds himself back in 1977, reeling from a newly acquired soul. Meanwhile, in Sunnydale, Dark!Willow sends Buffy back into the grave... Promising start for what looks like an intriguing plotty fic. Angel's Day Planner Sans Soul (or Thwarted Obsessions of an Unsouled Vampire) by annegablesOne-shot, PG From Innocence to Becoming, an insight into Angelus' mind. Brilliantly creepy. Fair Dinkum by deird1One-shot, PG. Somewhere in the beginning of season 5, Buffy reads a book “Slayers of the Early 20th Century; A Study” and discovers interesting facts about slaying and Australia... Fun! Date Night by LynnenneSpangel one-shot, PG, future!fic. Spike and Angel discover the term "bromance". The Very Secret Diary of Edith the Bloody by bruttimabuoniOne-Shot, PG, season 2 through the eyes of Miss Edith. Going Native by BogwitchPG, post-Chosen. PG. Buffy tries to impress Giles with her newly-found English manners and serves him tea... Fun! None of the links worked originally. Let's see if they work now. [You put quotation marks " " around the URL addresses and that made them invalid. Hepcat has finished Exiles today, August 14, 2009; link as of that date goes to her Dreamwidth memories. They are out of order, so following the series through the updates at WIP Thread #6, starting at post 158. And Hepcat also provides context, now that I'm checking the memories for something else. It also gives links to two Oz fics which show what has lead him to this tiny town and away from the Scoobies. BtVS crossover, Oz post "Choices" Sam in the middle of "Mystery Spot;" S'cubie Board recs assume familiarity with BtVS canon, but for SPN, Saving Faith333's Supernatural Cliff's Notes or the Supernatural (TV Series) article at Wikipedia may be of use; I get all my SPN info from Fandom Wank, which says nothing good about me. Exiles at Buffy Fanfiction Archive. *sigh* That has to be the longest damned disclaimer I've ever written before recommending a fic I love down to it's smallest atoms. Oz has gone to a small town at the edge of nowhere so that he can take a three-day break every year and head out from humans when ht wolf comes; one day when the moon is waxing full a very tall, haunted looking young man comes into the laundromat while Oz is peacefully doing his washing and then passes out in the street. Oz's deep and pure humanity shines through every word of this story, as does Sam Winchester's supreme fucked-up-ness, but in the end Oz is the one whose life is most changed for the better. This story includes one of those vivid three dimensional OFCs which are the hallmark of Hepcat's best stories, and would be worth reading for Alice alone, aside from the vivid and precise Oz POV voice. Gorgeous story, well worth your time, do read. Julia, will add final archived links when available.

Pancakes; Fred/Gunn-ish, more Fred/food. Fred was always told that breakfast was the most important meal of the day... PG, and a portait of the way routine and normalcy can be chipped out of stone. I'm not familiar with the writer but it strikes me that I need to rectify that ignorance. Julia, tasty tidbit, especially "less like the Eisenhower Administration and more like morning..."

Recent one-shots I loved (posted on LJ in August and September 2009) (Sorry for not posting links correctly, I'm afraid to mess it up as it happened the previous time) In Alphabetical Order by Beer Good Foamy beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com/112573.htmlOne-shot, PG-13. Season 8 – spoilers up until #27. One day in Tibet, Willow puts two and two together. Buffy remembers putting one and one together. It adds up to about 7 billion. Majestic Creatures of Legend by stormwreath stormwreath.livejournal.com/83729.htmlOne-shot, PG-13, season 8, post-Time Of Your Life. Xander/centaur!Dawn snuggling... Woodstock (Live the Music Remix) by angearia community.livejournal.com/remixredux09/30394.htmlOne-shot, gen, PG, pre-series (kinda). Do you remember Spike's line in School Hard: "Fed off a flower person and spent six hours watching my hands move"? What if Spike has made a hallucinogenic trip in the future? A canonical line of no importance gets developed it into a parade of the most iconic images from both BtVS and AtS - unforgettable moments that define Spike's journey. A Country Ride by nothorse nothorse.livejournal.com/26851.html#cutid1One-shot, NC-17 Spoilers: Season 8 - No Future for you. Giles and Faith investigate another evil conspiracy. Funny, creepy, inventively plotted; great Giles voice. Facing the Future by Bruttimabuoni bruttimabuoni.livejournal.com/41937.htmlOne-shot, PG. In 1978 Giles is subjected to a recruitment interview by the Council. Chillingly effective, full of insightful details, the story features the perfect Giles voice. Vicarious: The Buffy-in-the-Mix Remix by lynnenne lynnenne.livejournal.com/144782.htmlOne-shot, Buffy/Angel/Spike, future!fic, NC-17. “You’re looking way too happy right now, Mister. So Spike gets a turn, and I get to watch. And you,” she ran one fingernail through the mess on Angel’s chest, “are gonna do exactly what he tells you to do.” Far Away Horizon by waddis waddis.livejournal.com/1373.htmlStandalone, gen, PG, post-Chosen. Xander copes with Scoobies going different paths. The story has a very poignant, poetic vibe; it depicts Xander's strengths and insecurities in a very balanced manner. The Case of the Disappearing Hats by angearia angearia.livejournal.com/36504.htmlG, Post-Wrecked. Buffy cleans her house of Willow's magic stuff and discovers a box with Willow's hats... Unexpectedly funny and fluffy. Violet Eyes Are Smiling by Rebcake rebcake.livejournal.com/14241.htmlOne-shot, PG, during Lovers Walk. Mary-Sue arrives at Sunnydale and has a conversation with Joyce. Spike/Buffy implied. Memento Mori by rahirah (Barb C) rahirah.livejournal.com/415965.htmlOne-shot, future!verse, PG. This story takes place in the Barbverse and takes place a few weeks after POM, and a week or so before "The Devil and William Pratt." Spike and Buffy talk about Druzilla. Bittersweet. Eat Cute by rahirah (Barb C) rahirah.livejournal.com/417763.htmlOne-shot, PG, takes place in the same universe as "Raising In the Sun," "Necessary Evils," and "A Parliament of Monsters." Spike and Buffy make bento boxes. Just Desserts by rahirah (Barb C) rahirah.livejournal.com/418297.htmlOne-shot, PG, humor. Barb!Verse. I won't spoil the plot - it's less than 500 words, read yourselves, - but it's hysterically funny! Red Night Rising by Deird1 deird1.livejournal.com/192421.htmlAU season 4, Oz. Dark. Very dark. I Can Drive 55 by beer_good_foamy beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com/113410.htmlOne-shot, post Chosen, PG-13. Buffy and Faith have a conversation in the bus. Long List of Grievances by waddis waddis.livejournal.com/16520.htmlStandalone, PG-13, post-Empty Places. Some spicy details about Spike and Andrew's motorcycle journey. Wicked fun. The Seduction(s) of Xander Harris by Waddis waddis.livejournal.com/15805.htmlOne-shot, PG, Season 1 through post-Chosen. Xander and Dawn's bonding.

I've been on a horrible and debilitating fanfic tear. Needless to say I've neglected the laundry so long that I'm now forced to wear the uncomfortable underpants. Anyway, an interesting writer I found is Kalima. She writes Spuffy fanfic, but it certainly isn't fluffy. It can be very sad and her Spike and Buffy struggle, with themselves and each other. Her voices for all the characters are so true that you can tell who's speaking even when she doesn't indicate it. And then sometimes she'll have a line so funny, you'll bust out laughing when you never saw it coming. Here's one of her longer stories in which Spike tries to recover after being attacked by a pack of (literally) vengeful demon/angels: www.fanfiction.net/s/977213/1/RadianceAnd this is a short piece I really liked: www.fanfiction.net/s/455837/1/Ketchup_Blood

Willowgreen has written a great piece of mid-season 2, AU with Dawn, Joyce's trip to LA to go gallery shopping during "What's My Line" leads to an encounter with a mysterious but cultured Englishman The Magic of Art, R. Julia, and a fun read for many reasons.

Very amusing and pseudo-slashy line in a Spuffy fanfic I was reading today: Here's a link for the fic: www.nocturnal-light.net/fanfiction/story/194/1/Past_GloryIt's called Past Glory and it's by someone called Sandy. It's a pretty enjoyable alternate Season 5 fic, with really good character voices. It's probably the best story I've read by this author. It is rated NC-17 and pretty sex heavy, but I'm kind of a perv so that usually works for me.

Quoting from a topic I posted on the main board: Thanks for the suggestion, Lola (and Julia)! I posted over at Seeking Spike and got an answer in just an hour or so. And the fic was Beg the Liquid Red by Eurydice: www.nocturnal-light.net/fanfiction/story/269/1/Beg_the_Liquid_Red(BTW, the story didn't involve a vengeance demon, but that eurotrash Immortal - Fie! I spit on him!)
