I've been afraid to come in here --- thinking I'de say something completely stupid or honestly have nothing to say . So I'm just gonna--- Ah well here's something stupid If you were a tree,What kind of tree would you be? ( I think I'm a weeping willow )

( I think I'm a weeping willow ) I used to say rowan with the little red berries and being vaguely witchy and also there was one outside our house. but now I'm thinking more like one of those coppiced trees in the local ancient woodland. Get cut down, spring up a bunch of new bits. Which would make me the hydra of the veg kingdom but *shrugs* dont want to be one that just stays down when it falls. And some of those trees had been around forever. Which would be cool.

Okay, car update. It hasn't made the sound at all today. We got the radiator flushed and the transmission fluid replaced. It seems fine now. The Valvoline guy and girl said it sounded like a belt thing, but that the belt looked okay. And all those who appreciate my rhyming...thank you. Diane gets all credit for starting that. Her poetry is truly awesome. Thanks again. Rachael and Shanno have each Made a milestone that takes time to reach Rachael made 11K And Shan got 7K Let's give 'em a party on the beach. Way to go, you two.... Gone all weekend once again, so whatever happened, I don't know about it. You had car trouble? Oh. Ew. Hope the beastie's running okay now. Kudos to the voluable and locquatious Rachael and Shanno. I could use a party.

Then I thought larch or elm, but those aren't I. I've been known to get birchy, but not all the time. Or if on a health kick, an orange or lime. Then I realized my fandom told me in a flash exactly what tree--of course! I'm an ASH! ;D

The story as a whole REALLY needs editing- as Mark Twain put it, she needs to "slaughter her little darlings"- because there's too much exposition in these pst few chapters, and it feels exterior to the story as it's developed in tone and language. one of the reasons I try not to read WIP isnt so much the risk of being dropped in the middle thing, its the fact they havent been edited yet. I'm going to quote some famous guy's thoughts so it dont look like I'm on my high horse, and he was quoting people who taught him, so its Ancient Wisdom. From Stephen King On Writing "When you write a story, you're telling yourself the story. When you rewrite, your main job is taking out all the things that are not the story." a whole lot of WIPs really need to do a rewrite once they are 'done'. but, the whole bit with actually getting words on paper all in a row is so tough in the first place actually going and telling people this seems rather ungrateful.

I wanted to be the apple tree, but am really more like the olive in my mind.

says I am CEDAR TREE (the Confidence) - of rare beauty, knows how to adapt, likes luxury, of good health, not in the least shy, tends to look down on others, self-confident, determined, impatient, likes to impress others, many talents, industrious, healthy optimism, waiting for the one true love, able to make quick decisions.which is pretty much *anti* true. homely, does same same all the time, lives simple, often ill, so shy I dont leave the house, looks up at nearly everyone due to shortness, really not confident, admittedly can be determined to the point of mule stubborn but other times kind of crumples, has no sense of time and just the other day waited about four hours for a two minute thing, wouldnt mind impressing others but who is that not true of?, many talents as long as researching things on google counts as many, industrious in short bursts aka obsessions, pessimisst due to long experience, waiting for the chance to be polyamorous, and can never decide anything in less than a month.

Having to strike the pensive pose in order to keep from laughing out loud at Erin's Wes/Rachael post in the last part was a very nice way to start the work day. ;D

Don't worry, we're pretty much all babblers here. If I was a tree, I'd be... *thinks about it* A pomegranate. They have a lot of mythic connections, some personal ones for me, I love the fruit and the color of the seeds (garnets!), and we have one in the back yard. Weeping willows are beautiful trees, especially reflected in a quiet pool.

I'm a Hornbeam *makes note to check gardening books to see what they look like*: HORNBEAM TREE (the Good Taste) - of cool beauty, cares for its looks and condition, good taste, is not egoistic, makes life as comfortable as possible, leads a reasonable and disciplined life, looks for kindness and acknowledgement in an emotional partner, dreams of unusual lovers, is seldom happy with its feelings, mistrusts most people, is never sure of its decisions, very conscientious.
This actually sounds a little like me. I don't know about the good taste, but the insecurities - spot on. As to the unusual lovers, well, I have been having weird dreams of late...

Homely? Becca, you forget we have seen your pic? You have a beautiful, sensual type look, and are far from homely. As far as the other stuff goes, I will have to take your word on it, and admire your way with words as well. I do wonder about the "pessimist due to long experience." Long experience can teach you to be a realist, not a pessimist, and can teach you the difference between the two. As far as a tree goes, I want to be a plum tree.

This story was on the radio this morning:
Costo Selling Caskets CHICAGO (AP) _ August 17, 2004 — You can head into the next life at a discount -- thanks to Costco.
The chain is test marketing caskets in the Chicago area. The coffins are being sold at the North Side Costco, right next to the mattresses.
Costco is offering six models from the Universal Casket Company in six colors. The caskets sell for about 800 dollars each. But there's no cash-and-carry.
The store has samples only and delivery takes about 48 hours. Costco customer Inga Barth says it's "pretty bizarre."
But others like the idea of being able to shop for caskets long before they're needed.
******************************************
I can see the advertising slogans now.
"Costco, Your Birth to Death Store." "Costco, Complete the Circle of Life Here." "Costco, Everything A Body Needs."
Also, I could just see my FiL, in his hoarding heyday, stocking up on caskets. He grew up during the Depression, and he used to buy loads of stuff because it was cheap, not because it was needed. There was a case of canned asparagus that Paul still moans about...

This actually sounds a little like me. I don't know about the good taste, but the insecurities - spot on. As to the unusual lovers, well, I have been having weird dreams of late... From the site, I am: WALNUT TREE (the Passion) - unrelenting, strange and full of contrasts, often egotistic, aggressive, noble, broad horizon, unexpected reactions, spontaneous, unlimited ambition, no flexibility, difficult and uncommon partner, not always liked but often admired, ingenious strategist, very jealous and passionate, no compromise. Well - lets see - Unrelenting: anyone who has argued with me on the board would probably agree. Full of contrasts, egotistic: Hmm. I have a sister who would agree, at the very least Aggressive: Sometimes Noble: Sometimes Broad horizons: Well, if horizons include my butt . . . Unexpected reactions, spontaneous: To a fault. Unlimited ambitions: True. But limited resources. No flexibility, difficult and uncommon partner: Did my ex write this? Not often liked, but often admired: Did my staff write this? Ingenious strategist: I try Very jealous and passionate: Who me? Jealous? Did Cal or Patti write this? No compromise: Did my sons write this?? I wanna be a plum tree, I say, a plum tree!!
