Good call by the doctor. She was so obvious too... she had the knowledge of the plants after all. Very good call on Jack's part. Which makes me wonder if he suspects Kate's part in it. Jack is good at keeping secrets, isn't he?

How in the HELL did you know that? I mean, other than that she's an acccmplished herbalist... No, he's not gonna tell anyone... Because they are ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!! **snortle** Had a flashback to Veronica not hesitating at all to sign the papers giving up any interest in the Kane fortune. He offered to change his whole plan just like that, no argument, no waffling, just - we can stay here. Wow! He really doesn't like the bunker. And he really doesn't want it opened up. WOO absolutely freakin' HOOOO!

"He said he won't tell the others." "Of course." And, why does he keep doing that? Keeping the truth from all? Didn't we just prove that doesn't really work out real well in the end? Hmmm? I'm starting to think Jack is good at keeping secrets because Jack likes keeping secrets.

I was very tired when I started watching the ep, and it didn't exactly get my blood pumping. Ohio - the heart of it all! I liked those plates. I used to have those plates. The ones I have now say something different. I can't remember what. Episode, I think is about finding "your spot" in life. Knowing who you are or some such thing. Wow. I really am tired. Must go to sleep. I may have to rewatch this one tomorrow, I practically dozed through some of it. Catch you later, my S'cubadorables. Seemed an average ep to me. Not bad, had some good info and some interesting twists. But not a real showstopper. Next week, on the other hand . . .

Boy, Sawyer just came right back at Kate like a pit bull. You challenged him, Kate. You reap the concequences. (And then she tries to give him that little flirty smile ) "Ain't anything on this island worth staying for." Ouch! That's gotta hurt! Walt told dad about the raft! Wooot! And, without a second thought, Michael turns everything around for his kid "We can stay here". That was truly a lovely moment. For all their problems, he loves his kid. So then of course we have to get the scary music and creepy warning. Something tells me, if Walt says we gotta go, you'd better go! Interesting line from Kate: "Jack's good at keeping secrets". Sarcastic? Truthful? She knows something we don't? Important?Kate and Sun bonding over girlish dreams of Prince Charming - awwwww. And then - CFL Danielle!!! Yay!!! Now Sayid and Hurley can fight over her and she'll pick Hurley! But - run, hide or die? Um. I'll take numbers one and two, please. Next week should be good! I wonder if the unspoken next line would be "As opposed to Sawyer." Sawyer used his knowledge of her past as leverage when she stood between him and what he wanted, whereas Jack was... discreet, even when he wasn't sure he trusted her.

I'm starting to think Jack is good at keeping secrets because Jack likes keeping secrets. I think it is because he is a very troubled private man. Just a thought. Kate doesn't seem to have any trouble shooting people, or hitting them or risking them. Maybe the most beautiful girl is going to turn out to be the most evil.. Sure be a change.

Can it be next week now?
Lola said:
Ep was OK. I mean, I some of the stuff we learned was interesting, etc.
But overall - meh. Maybe I'm just not that interested in Kate. Or maybe they're doing a kind of boring job of presenting her story. Or . . .
But previews for next week! Oooooh!
Very excited to see CFL Danielle again. Run! Hide! Die!
Well. Them's some choices!
Lola
Anne replied:
With you on the "meh". I mean, as soon as I saw the toy plane in the box, I knew Tom (?) was a redshirt.
Also, not liking Kate at all right now - she seemed to be playing better with the others, and then it turned out she was using Sun's fears for Jin as a way to clear a space on the boat for herself. Bad, bad girl, Kate, no boat trip for you!
I did like when Walt 'fessed up to Michael about burning the first raft, and Michael's response - he's quite the good father. Also Charlie, who seems to have adopted Claire and her demon baby.
Next week, The Return of the French Chick! Yay!
Anne, maybe if we make a magic circle, it'll be next week sooner?
Karen said:
I'm in for the circle of magic.
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but Kate and Tom buried their time capsul on August 15, 1986 was it?
August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption in the Catholic faith.
" It is the principal feast of the Blessed Virgin, the mother of Jesus Christ. ... two events - the departure of Mary from this life and the assumption of her body into heaven .."
Hmmmm.
Loved when Walt fessed up, too and Michael's response. So, does that leave Sawyer and Kate on the raft with Jin and who else?
I really like the French Chick - the actress is so good.
Anne said:
The question is, will that date actually mean something, or are they just throwing out random neat-o ideas as they think of them? I'd hate to see Lost succumb to Chris Carter Syndrome.
Anne, should go buy a plant cart for my new roses, not to mention something for dinner
Karen replied:
Yes, I hope the numbers are truly clues to solving the island's mystery. If not, I'll be disappointed.
Chris (my eldest) bought me a beautiful yellow rose climber for Mother's Day. I need to find something for it to climb on.
And:
Anne said "Also, not liking Kate at all right now - she seemed to be playing better with the others, and then it turned out she was using Sun's fears for Jin as a way to clear a space on the boat for herself. Bad, bad girl, Kate, no boat trip for you!"
Ooo, I didn't look at Kate's 'helping' Sun as a way to clear a space on the boat for herself.
I did feel sorry for Kate when most everyone turned their backs on her when she finally fessed up. I just kept thinking to myself that Sawyer had a lot of nerve making her confess. He's certainly living in a glass house himself.
Erin replied:
I actually thought that was kind of fair. I mean, everything that Sawyer's done wrong has been played out in a public forum on the island...and everybody automatically assumes he's the one that does the bad stuff. Whereas Kate has been strangely privileged not to have her crimes and misdemeanors revealed to the island at large.
Not excusing Sawyer's past behavior, but how come everyone else is both given the benefit of the doubt and the gift of descretion?
Erin
Karen said:
Oh, good point.
Hi Erin! *waves*
Maybe Sawyer isn't given the benefit of the doubt because he is usually *seems* non-cooperative, but he should be.
And Kate seemed to be the peacemaker, and thus, was given the benefit of the doubt - but sometimes shouldn't.
Hurley seems to see past each of their faults. I haven't thought all that out.
Like the hatch - is it better to keep all secrets buried - or open them up?
Huh.
Anne said:

Nice analysis, Karen.
Hurley is the Xander of the group, but we already figured that out.
The problem with opening up the hatch is that all its secrets will come out, not just the nice ones; you can't pick and choose. The same with people. Pandora's box, and all that.
Anne, not good with the brain today but still hoping for Krell machinery and an Id Monster on the island
Karen said:
Ah, good point about the hatch, Anne!
I was thinking Pandora's box, too, but I liked the way you explained it. Are the Lost people ready yet to open up the hatch - I think not at this point - not all of them.
I wonder what Walt saw.
Anne said:
Walt could've seen pretty much anything, ranging from disaster to the raft to something on the island that only he or his dad could do. Too confusing.
I want to lodge a formal complaint re: Walt.
I wouldn't have minded his evil psychic powers so much if they'd waited to manifest until he got to the island. I have serious objections to the way it was all telegraphed in the flashbacks - yes, we get it, Walt is EEEEVIL! Or possibly misled.
I like my evil like I like my men, subtle. I don't like having things spelled out for me, over, and over, and over...
Anne
Karen said:
RE: Walt
We should've figured he was evil from the start when the dog (what's his name again?) stayed away.
Lola said:
Nice comparison, Karen! Kate has given too much benefit of doubt, Sawyer not enough.
I mean, they are very similar, really. (Including the fact that they are both murderers - and I'll be surprised if they cops weren't after her because of a previous violent incident - perhaps justified, perhaps not.) Kate has simply presented a more agreeable face to the others on the island up until now.
Sawyer really does himself no good by always showing the worst possible side of himself at virtually all times and always always living down to any expectation of him.
Lola

Lola said: 'Run! Hide! Die!..Well. Them's some choices!'
How freaky was that? And isn't that what a lot of them have been doing in rl, too? Kate running and hiding. Sawyer running. Sun planning on running. Jack - maybe hiding in drink. Charlie - definitely hiding in drugs. Sayid - hiding.
Hmmm. Maybe she's leading them astray.
Lola said:
I really really want to see these "others". Are they Ethan's gang? Are they really people or just voices or a "presence" - can they really kill people?
Man, I love seeing CFL show up all tough chick wiht her gun and barking orders.
Looking very much forward to the next 2 weeks / three hours. I'm betting we won't have much resolved, but I am hoping for lots of action and excitement and surprises.

Good points about Jack. The writers were doing quite a lot at the start of the show to keep trying to make us like, like, like Kate. Every time they'd show us something she's done in the past, they'd also show her being good and helpful on the island. As opposed to say, Sawyer. So this episode, in which a bit of the perhaps more real portrait of Kate comes out, might be a turning point.

Yay, we're back! Too totally busy doing the graduation thing the past few days to get to the LJ but I do have a question: do we have any idea what Kate initially did to warrant a marshal outside of her mother's (?) hospital room? When she robbed the bank in the earlier flashback, it was to get to the safe deposit box with Tom's plane. And I'm assuming that's after his death... How much time is passing here? She looks pretty darned young to be such a hardened and accomplished criminal. I can't wait for next week: it looks like we're in for some crazy French fun.

Did anyone notice the last name of the person Kate asked about in the hospital? I'm pretty sure it was Jansen--the last name of the actor who played the good Dr. Kimble in The Fugitive. I didn't catch that. Neat.

Huh. Kate Austin. And he's her childhood sweetheart. Awwwwwwww. So how'd she kill him? "You always wanna run away Kate." So it's been her M.O. forever? And from what? More bad daddy (or mommy) issues maybe? LOVED Hurley's "Steve didn't even know about the polar bear!" And mutant Walt didn't poison dad, but apparently sees the future or sees inside people's heads or both or something through touch. Huh. Hee, hee. My favorite line from the show. Hurley may not always have a lot of lines but he sure sells the ones he gets.
